[Bug 343268] Re: linux 2.6.28 doesn't boot for recent processors with XSAVE
I think I am having the same problem. When booting it freezes right after "Starting up...", and if I remove the quiet splash options I can see that it stops after [some time] io scheduler cfq registered (default) I tried using all the options, acpi=off, noacpi, noapic, nolapic, clocksource=jiffies etc but nothing works. I began with the 2.6.28 kernel that came with my 9.04 installation, and later upgraded to 2.6.30 but that did not make any difference. If I have a usb-stick with the LiveCD/installation on it inserted when I boot it works fine. I have a XFX MI-A78S8209 GeForce 8200 motherboard. -- linux 2.6.28 doesn't boot for recent processors with XSAVE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343268 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 389453] [NEW] Ubuntu will not boot, freezes at "Starting up..."
Public bug reported: When booting it freezes right after "Starting up...", and if I remove the quiet splash options I can see that it stops after [some time] io scheduler cfq registered (default) I tried using the options, acpi=off, noacpi, noapic, nolapic, clocksource=jiffies etc but nothing works. It was possible to boot if I had an USB-stick with the 9.04 installation on it, but after I updated the BIOS (to version 1.5, figured it might help) not even that works. I can't boot the LiveCD (on USB stick) either, it stops at the same message as when I boot from my harddrive. I have read and commented on bug #343268 but none of the tips for that bug worked for me, so I figured I should write a new report. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu will not boot, freezes at "Starting up..." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389453 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you! After doing even more research on this issue I found that some people reported the same problem when having their usb-keyboard/usb-peripherals attached. So I disconnected all of my USB-devices, and after that it booted. When I connected them again later, and rebooted, the computer still starts.
