[Bug 1638535] [NEW] liblzo.a (static library) fails to link on 16.10, AMD64 (needs `-fPIC`)

2016-11-02 Thread ideasman42
Public bug reported:

See this bug report for details:

https://github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz/issues/866

When linking with `liblzo.a`, the error:

Build error liblzo2.a(lzo1x_1.o): relocation R_X86_64_PC32 against
symbol `memset@@GLIBC_2.2.5' can not be used when making a shared
object; recompile with -fPIC

occurs, this wasn't a problem on Ubuntu 16.04.

To test this: following the build steps here can redo the problem:
https://github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz/blob/master/doc/how_to_build_linux.md

[Bug 1421977] Re: blender crashes on python code completion

2015-02-26 Thread ideasman42
Update, worked around the bug:
https://developer.blender.org/T43491#291744

But the bug still exists: just run this in the text editor:

import readline

I'm afraid this needs to be solved by whoever maintains the Blender
package, so the libraries aren't in conflict.

On Arch Linux, for example, there is no problem so its just a matter of
finding what the important difference is which makes Ubuntu load
libedit, when ArchLinux doesnt.

[Bug 1059017] Re: python3.3 throws apport exception on each traceback

2012-12-17 Thread ideasman42
Could there at least be some way to disable `apport`

By setting an environment variable for eg:
APPORT_DISABLE=1

Then blender can set this (or a launcher script) and it will work fine.

Otherwise any application that uses py3.3 and has an interactive console
will run into this.

I found that removing glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); from wm_window.c fixes it
and blender starts fine.

Once blender is started this can be called again for new windows.
looking into it further, will try fix for the next beta.

Hi Benjamin
Updated http://apricot.blender.org/wp-content/uploads/COPYING

- removed part about logos, no logos are included so this is not needed.
- included these as media - svg, jpeg, jpg, ttf
- use GPLv2 or greater.
- include files dist/yofrankie-bge dist/yofrankie-bge.desktop as GPLv2 or
greater.
- use exec dist/yofrankie-bge as suggested.

Ill include svg, jpeg's & ttf as media in the list.

[Bug 228620] Re: rescaling svg icons broken for user defined icons.

2008-05-09 Thread ideasman42
Here are the steps to reproduce the problem.
With the default install of ubuntu hardy (32bit system in this case), using
gimp as an example.

* Right click on the gimp in the Applicatios, Graphics Menu, Add to desktop
* Right click on the new icon on the desktop, Scale Icon, (scale it as large as
you can)
* Copy the new gimp desktop icon, Select, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V
* Right click on the new icon, Properties, from the properties panel select the
gimp icon. - /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/gimp.svg

Now see that the one with the hand selected icon displays low resolution
even though they are both SVG graphics.

[Bug 228620] [NEW] rescaling svg icons broken for user defined icons.

2008-05-09 Thread ideasman42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When a launcher has an SVG icon, scaling it to be large results in the image to
look like an upscaled image.
If the icon is in the users ~/.icons/ this can be worked around by opening the
launcher in a text editor and removing the path from the Icon filename as well
as the .svg extension.
refreshing the desktop makes the icon display as a nicely scaled vector.

Try this with the gimp icon.
Copy it to the desktop from the menu
Scale to largest size.
Then RMB properties on the gimp icon. select the same gimp icon from the icon
picker /usr/share/icons/hicolor/apps/gimp.svg ? - recall and see the icon now
looks like a small image scaled.

[Bug 6671] Re: insecure file access (breezy, dapper, edgy, gutsy, hardy)

2008-05-01 Thread ideasman42
Blender needs to be able to access rendered image sequences so it can
play them back. random names could work, but only while blender was
running. people often work on an animation over many days/weeks, so only
allowing them to play their animation during a single session is not
good.

basically if bob isnt sure who's tempering with his temp directory, he
should not render to it. or give people read only access to his home
dir.

I think removing symlinks is a reasonable solution to this. rendering to
/tmp is a bit weak, so failing that, we could define a render dir for
blender to use, perhaps in their home directory.

[Bug 6671] Re: insecure file access (breezy, dapper, edgy, gutsy, hardy)

2008-05-01 Thread ideasman42
regarding "ln -s /home/bob/thesis.tex /tmp/0001.jpg"

Should this problem be resolved by first removing the file before writing?
That or checking if the file is a symlink, if so remove the symlink?

[Bug 125658] Re: please update openexr version

2008-02-12 Thread ideasman42
I second this.
For peach open movie we had problems with OpenEXR 1.2.2, Blender3D uses OpenEXR
for its internal use.

I compiled our own OpenEXR and linked with it, It was not that easy so
here are some instructions for Ubuntu Gutsy 64bit.

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/openexr-devel/2008-01/msg00010.html

ilmbase compiled OK, but openexr did not, here are the steps to compile.

 export CXX="g++-4.2 -lrt -fPIC"
 export CC="gcc-4.2 -lrt -fPIC"
 make clean
 ./configure --prefix=/render/exr --disable-ilmbasetest
 make
 make install

[Bug 164804] Re: Gnome Login Error

2007-12-05 Thread ideasman42
Just to confirm this keeps happening on more then a few of the systems here,
this could be attributed to gconfd-2 or applets I guess...
It seems gconf-d is not stopping and then on reload applets dont work.
killing gconfd-2 and removing temp files with the word gconf in the /tmp dir
seems to fix.

the panel is not at fault AFAIK, its just that when starting the panel,
the printer applet is hanging gnome completely. and that line of python
is where it hangs.

2007-10-07 Thread ideasman42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When logging into gnome the printer applet will sometimes hang gnome
panel

I used strace to find out where the problem, was

line 1026: waitloop.run() of /user/share/system-config-printer/applet.py

Im using NIS, and this may be a contributing factor however there are
only 2 computers on the network which can copy around 60-110 meg a
second.

[Bug 138223] Re: Evolution cuts of printed contacts

2007-09-28 Thread ideasman42
My dad had this problem in fiesty and I just dist-upgraded to gutsy and the
problem is still there
- using an A4 laser printer - problem shows in the print preview also.

Should add some margin options. I worked around the problem by selecting
"Scale to fit" in the printer preferences so he is happy - but would be
nice to solve properly.

[Bug 145713] gtk file chooser crashes when dragging desktop

2007-09-27 Thread ideasman42
Public bug reported:

in the gtk file chooser there are 2 desktop icons on the left hand side.
One is at the top area, another one is down with the bookmarks, this was
default when installing gutsy (I did not mess with the settings and my gutsy is
up to date)

Both 'Desktop' icons are the same and not the generic folder icon.

When I drag the lower 'Desktop' Icon up out of the bookmark area, and
let go- the application running will crash instantly.

This happens with gedit and firefox - so I assume its not application
spesific.

I also have a slackware system with gnome 2.20 compiled with garnome,
the second desktop icon is not there, however I tried dragging the icons
about and could not get it to crash.

[Bug 145705] Copy error does not show full name

2007-09-27 Thread ideasman42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

when copying files (from samba in my case though I dont think this matters) I
get an error
"Unable to perform operation on this file."

The problem is that I cannot see the full name of the file that has the
error, in fact I could not see the name at all because the dialog
abbreviates the name and there is no handles to resize the dialog so as
to see the full name.

This is more a logical problem then a software bug - but its important
that one should be able to see the full path of the file that failed, or
at least the filename.
