[Bug 349607] Re: Codec manager does not find "bad" codecs

2009-08-15 Thread ignorant
I can also observe this behaviour in Karmic Koala, alpha 4 release. It
is certainly confusing to a new user. Any plans to fix it?

[Bug 298389] Re: Synaptic hangs when trying to save prefrences

2009-08-13 Thread ignorant
I have this bug too, on Jaunty upgraded from Intrepid. I am seriously
thinking never to upgrade again... You never know what strange bug might
hit you due to misconfiguration / old config files etc. Could someone
please be kind and inform us whether there is any work being done for
this bug?

[Bug 279798] Re: [intrepid] cannot suspend with module rtl8187 loaded

I tried Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Alpha 3 (kernel 2.6.31) from a USB
startup disk and I was able to suspend successfully (and very quickly, I
might add!). Can anyone else try and report here?

[Bug 399039] [NEW] Typing notification in empathy doesn't work for google talk contacts

2009-07-13 Thread ignorant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When a gtalk contact is typing to me in a chat, empathy doesn't notify me of
that. When an MSN contact is typing, I can see the green icon in front of the
contact name turn into a "user is typing" icon, so I guess it's a bug specific
to gtalk accounts. I have not tested other accounts besides Google Talk and MSN.
Empathy version: The default jaunty but also version 2.27.3-2ubuntu1~ppa9.04+1
from the ppa.

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2009-06-28 Thread ignorant
I tested Karmic Alpha 2 (kernel 2.6.30-8) via liveCD (actually it was a
USB stick :) ). The driver reports stronger signal, it went from 15% in
Jaunty to 65% in Karmic, although I 'm not really sure whether this
really means anything or they just changed the method of measurement.
Connection seems more stable, e.g. temporary disconnects in OpenArena
last shorter ;) .Not that I have any serious problems in Jaunty. I will
also check with Skype.

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2009-06-08 Thread ignorant
For me it's working perfectly since kernel 2.6.27-13. Everyone has
different experience, but we must not forget that we are dealing with
wireless networks here, unreliable and unpredictable by nature. A lot of
things can influence the performance of the wireless device, distance
from the access point, physical hurdles in between etc. So before we put
the blame to the linux driver, we should always compare with the
performance in the Windows environment to confirm that we are indeed
affected by a bug and not by bad antenna position or anything else. Have
a nice evening.

[Bug 359055] Re: Audio pop on boot in 9.04

2009-05-31 Thread ignorant
I also have this "popping sound at boot" issue, on Ubuntu 9.04 (upgraded
from Intrepid). I currently have two kernels on my system, 2.6.28-11 and
2.6.27-13. I've noticed it only occurs under 2.6.28-11 (or at least it
is not audible under the older kernel). Oh, and it is actually *two*
successive popping sounds in my case :)

[Bug 290454] Re: Ubuntu Start/Login Sound delayed

I noticed that the delay happens only when I come back from a
shutdown. When I come back from a restart, the drum sound plays just on
time. Maybe this can help.

I also have this (minor) problem. It appeared when I made a clean
install of Intrepid six months ago, and it persists now that I've
upgraded to Jaunty. The drum sound comes a few seconds delayed.

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2009-02-28 Thread ignorant
After trying release Alpha 5 of Ubuntu 9.04 (kernel version: 2.6.28-8),
I must say my problems seem fixed. I no longer deal with connection
hangs when downloading torrents. I've tested it on two machines, one
equipped with rtl8187 and the other with rtl8187B (that's what the
"lsusb" command outputs). I'll continue testing, but it looks good..
thanks to the developers! :)

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-12-10 Thread ignorant
Hi all, I'm also experiencing a variation of this bug. My motherboard is
Asus M2N DH with integrated RTL8187 USB module. The difference is I ONLY
observe disconnection when I run p2p clients. At first I thought it had
something to do with bittorrent, but recently I tried other programs
like Amule and DC++ and I got exactly the same behaviour: Disconnection
after a random amount of time, independently of number of connections /
donwload/upload speed. Downloading via FTP, rapidshare etc. never kills
the connection, in fact I get nearly maximum speeds. I'm running Ubuntu
8.10 with kernel 2.6.27-9. If any logged information is needed, I'd be
happy to provide it.
