[Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
Thank you for the suggestion, gmud. That's a good idea. Unfortunately I do not have the resources to install a fresh copy of Ubuntu on top of the existing Ubuntu partition that I am using. The Puppy Linux distro is running fully off an 8GB pendrive. Earlier today I installed the Glasen 0.7.7 driver fix for the i855, in my Dell Latitude D400. Both the stable version, of the driver, and the experimental (exp) version acted the same way: 1. I could now run Videos (like, with VLC) with no problem. Until this fix, my GPU would lock up immediately, the second I invoked any video. The fix allows video. 2. Now, the GPU locks up when I run certain graphics only. This is an improvement. I can make it fail consistently when I run Google Chrome with the facebook game: Mafia Wars. The page that causes the lockup is NewYork stage properties page. After less than a minute of pressing various buttons on this page, the GPU locks up. My xorg.conf is the standard one. Good work, Stephan. Thank you for the fix. [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
This issue has been floating around, in Ubuntu, for too long. Why wasn't it escalated? When my upgrade from 8.04LTS to 10.04.1LTS failed so miserably (Wireless problems and locking GPU problem) I moved myself to Puppy Linux. The Puppy distro does not lock up on me when I use graphics and video. Version 5.1 of Puppy Linux is based on the Ubuntu Lucid binaries (called Lupu). I am having difficulty understanding why Ubuntu Lucid is failing so miserably. What do PuppyLinux's drivers have that Lucid does not? I get a freeze, on average, every 15 minutes, every single day that I try to use Ubuntu Lucid, nowadays. Maybe someone should contact Barry Kauler (of Puppy Linux) and ask some questions so that this issue GOES AWAY FAST. Is this a Kernel version issue? [Bug 577482] Re: Window decoration and title bar is missing in Lucid
Same exact issue. This problem occurs continuously. After reboot the problem goes away, but returns within minutes. The title-bar missing is also related to the fact that the title remains in the running tasks panel even after I close these title-bar-less windows (using the FileExit menu item to close the window.) Upgraded from 8.04lts to 10.04.1lts, regretfully. Dell Latitude D400. Has the Intel i855 chipset. The graphics driver may be at issue here. It's not official, but it makes my graphics work, at least. -- Window decoration and title bar is missing in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577482 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568779] Re: [i855] 10.04 rc boots into black/blank screen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541511 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 A couple of days ago I took the plunge. I upgraded the ubuntu system, that I used since 8.04LTS first came out, to 10.04.1LTS. BIG mistake. The two huting issues for my Dell Latitude D400 were: 1. The wireless network didn't cooperate until I installed some restricted package available on the Live CD. 2. The Intel 82852/855 GM/GME doesn't work unless I went ahead and used VESA with 8-bit depth. Bad news. Does anyone have a SIMPLE workaround for the GRAPHICS issue so that my resolution experience improves to 24-bit depth? There are other problems, but I'll leave those out of the picture ;-) for now! [Bug 548898] Re: The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet
System: Dell Latitude D400, 1GB RAM. After upgrading from 8.04LTS to 10.04LTS I ran into the same problem, but the problem affected a group of Applets, like the Desktop-Applet, the Date-Applet (which also crashes), etc... I tried reinstalling the gnome-applets and gnome-applets-data. It made little difference. Please note that at times only one or two applets have the problem. Other times more applets are affected. -- The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 447892] Re: [i855gm] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
On Dell Latitude D400 laptop, with 1GB RAM. Initiated an upgrade, from 8.04lts to 10.04.1lts, a few days ago. Uses the Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME graphics controller. After the upgrade was completed: At the end of the boot process, while the X-server is started, I get a blank screen and everything freezes. To alleviate the problem I switched from using the Intel driver to the vesa driver (8-bit depth) by modifying the xorg.conf file and rebooting. That allows me to boot fine, but the graphics experience isn't pretty. To alleviate the graphics problem I reinstalled the Intel drivers from the PPA. I used the following overview page: https://edge.launchpad.net/~raof/+archive/aubergine The reinstallation of the Intel driver made NO difference to the situation. -- [i855gm] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447892 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
