[Bug 1883880] Re: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic

2020-07-31 Thread Harry van Haaren (Intel)
Hey Folks,

Does the -proposed changes get automatically integrated to -updates
after a certain time has passed, or does this require somebody to take
action?

It would be great to have this update rolled out to 18.04 before OVS
2.14 is released in a week or two.

Regards, -Harry

[Bug 1883880] Re: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic

2020-07-21 Thread Harry van Haaren (Intel)
Hi All,

I have enabled the bionic-proposed repo as described in link. OVS-master
is used for testing, containing the build-time binutils bug check as
described above.

1) Can confirm that old binutils version (2.30-21ubuntu1~18.04.3) had
issue, and OVS was correctly DISabling AVX512.

2) Can confirm that with -proposed binutils (2.30-21ubuntu1~18.04.4),
OVS build system is correctly ENabling AVX512 support, as linker checks
are passing.

After the configure step, I have tested OVS, running traffic and
enabling the AVX512 optimizations. It is working as expected, with
AVX512 instructions running in the datapath.

I believe you have already added the "verification-done" and bionic
versions Christian, so I'll not change the status... please let me know
if I misunderstood the process.

Thanks Robie & Christian for your support on this issue! -Harry

[Bug 1883880] Re: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic

2020-07-01 Thread Harry van Haaren (Intel)
Hi Christian,

Thanks for the additional info! Confirm that with the PPA the proposed
checks now pass:

$ echo "vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0" | as --64 -o avx.o && objdump -d avx.o |
grep vmovaps
  8: 0: 62 f1 7c 48 28 04 05vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0

Also the proposed OVS automake build-system changes will enable avx512
correctly:
checking binutils avx512 assembler checks passing... yes

I'll wait for the SRU team to accept into proposed. Regards, -Harry

Apologies I'm not familiar with the SRU testing process. I'd like to

[Bug 1883880] Re: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic

2020-06-17 Thread Bruce Richardson (Intel)
Command to reproduce the issue:

echo "vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0" | as --64 -o avx.o && objdump -d
avx.o | grep vmovaps

The expected output is that the objdump output matches the vmovaps
instruction input. When using binutils with the bug, the initial 0x40
will be incorrect.

>From an Ubuntu 20.04 system:

$ echo "vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0" | as --64 -o avx.o && objdump -d avx.o |
grep vmovaps
   0: 62 f1 7c 48 28 04 05vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0

On an Ubuntu 18.04 system:

$ echo "vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0" | as --64 -o avx.o && objdump -d avx.o |

[Bug 1827757] Re: PMF

2019-11-15 Thread intel
A better workaround solution to this problem is the systemd
wpa_supplicant.service override.
This is better than messing with broken packages and versions.

Here is my systemd override.conf (you can apply it with `systemctl edit
wpa_supplicant`):

[Service]
Environment="LD_PRELOAD=/path_to_wpa_bundle_dir/libm.so.6"
ExecStart=
ExecStart=/path_to_wpa_bundle_dir/wpa_supplicant -u -s -O /run/wpa_supplicant

is just a custom folder that consists of
wpa_supplicant binary from package wpasupplicant_2.9-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb +
libm-2.30.so from package libc6_2.30-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb and libm.so.6 which is
a symlink to the libm-2.30.so in the same folder.

[Bug 1827757] Re: PMF

2019-11-15 Thread intel
Can confirm that this problem still exist on the latest LTS release.

I tested connecting to enterprise network with enabled and required PMF (
Protected Management Frames / Management Protected Frames or 802.11w ) on
Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (with all updates) - all attempts failed, when the PMF was
set to `Required` on the AP side.
I also tested with my home setup: TP-Link AP ( OpenWrt 18.06.5 ) and 802.11w
set to `Required` in the `Wireless Security` section.

The current wpasupplicant version for 18.04 is 2:2.6-15ubuntu2.5
When the Network Manager tries to connect to the AP, it fails because the
activation takes too long.
I tested the Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan release and it seems that the wpasupplicant is
able to connect to APs with Required PMF option.

I found a workaround for Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic, but it is a bit
"hacky/risky" - basically force upgraded the wpasupplicant and all deps
with the packages from Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan. The dependency packages can be
downloaded from https://packages.ubuntu.com

Package versions:

libnl-3-200_3.4.0-1_amd64.deb
libnl-route-3-200_3.4.0-1_amd64.deb
locales_2.30-0ubuntu2_all.deb
libc-bin_2.30-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
libc6_2.30-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
libc6_2.30-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
libtinfo6_6.1+20190803-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libreadline8_8.0-3_amd64.deb
wpasupplicant_2.9-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb

NOTE: force upgrade this packages only if you are sure that they will not break
your existing apps.
If you are stuck with the LTS version, but you want the be able to connect to
APs with mandatory PMF until this issue is resolved, you can try the workaround
on your own risk (future LTS updates could break this setup).

[Bug 969154] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 as a VMWare Workstation 8 guest

2012-08-02 Thread intel
Hi to all :)
I have temp fix for that.
The long story short is:
I just make configured xorg.conf file and copy it to /etc/X11. And of course
RESTART! :)
Now i have native 1080p without more issues/errors, but resolution is
permanently locked to 1080p/60Hz
If this is ok for you, here is the configured xorg.conf in the attachment.
I know that is a temp fix, not proper fix, but ...
This is the world of Linux :)

Pls someone to test the fix and confirm :)

The errors have disappeared !!

Here are the things I tried (i had been googling for so long i guess)

Suggestion 1: adding boot option "irqpoll"
Result: No effect

Suggestion 2: Check BIOS software with intel's (firmwarekit-r1.iso) linux
Result: No effect, 1 lousy warning, No Errors.

Suggestion 3: Related to Broadcom h/w
(no idea how to use that info)

My H/W was Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, BIOS version was 1.3,
I saw 2 updates available for A120 Series
1 update for PSAE0
1 update for PSAE1

I didn't know which model i had, PSAE0 or PSAE1
I used the BIOS UPDATE for PSAE1
http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/tecra/a8/pta83/win/bios-330win.zip
updated the BIOS from windows.

Now i haven't received these errors yet !

will report back if problem persists,
I guess Toshiba BIOS drivers for windows worked around the BIOS bugs,
Linux did not have such luxury !
