[Bug 580225] Re: [gm45] Backlight sometimes stays off

2011-06-21 Thread jango
Hi!
This is still a severe problem using Ubuntu 10.04, kernel 2.6.32-32 on my
Thinkpad x200.
Backlight won't turn on after suspend to ram. Intel 4500HD graphics.
The issue seems to come up more often since the last few kernel-updates. Maybe
there is a related patch included which causes this problem?!
Are there any known fixes or workarounds?

Thanks,
Jango

Re: [Bug 548992] Re: Wireless connection frequently drops [deauthenticating by local choice (reason=3)]

2010-10-19 Thread jango
I also think, that it is not a problem of network-manager.
I also have this problem, that the connection disassembles again while
trying to establish it (deauthenticating by local choice (reason=3)) But
I only observe this on a specific network. Windows computers and my
Android device can connect to it, only Ubuntu can't. Setting a static IP
address solves this problem and the connection works in my case.
I think, maybe the threshold for getting an IP address from the DHCP
server is set too small. In case you have a slow DHCP server it takes
maybe longer. If one would wait 500 miliseconds longer, you would get an
IP (this is maybe what the other devices do).
This network I speak from was not secured (open network). Uninstalling
network-manager did not solve the problem. I also tried to connect with
the shell tools.

[Bug 391130] Re: Incorrect urgency for NetworkManager

2010-01-04 Thread jango
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: notify-osd
+ Disconnecting from a network usually has a high "urgency" level.
+ However, notify-osd sometimes shows "normal" urgency when disconnecting
+ from a wired network and "low" urgency when connection is established.

- Ubuntu 9.10
- notify-osd:
- Installed: 0.9.14.1-0ubuntu1
- Candidate: 0.9.14.1-0ubuntu1
+ But there is a problem with this urgency levels:
+ When waking up from suspend, the notification appears saying "Disconnected"
at exact the time when wireless networking has been connected again. But the
notification for "Wlan Connected" appears a lot of time later, because it has
low urgency level.

- Disconnecting from a network usually has a high urgency level. However,
- notify-osd sometimes shows "normal" urgency when disconnecting from a
- wired network
-
- How to reproduce :
-
- 1) Unplug the network cable, a notification appears and says "Disconnected -
you are now offline". This notification is "urgent". ==> correct urgency
- 2) Plug in the network cable, a notification pops-up and says "Connection
Established". This notification has a "low" urgency level. ==> incorrect urgency
- 3) Reconnect to the network by clicking in the nm-applet from the panel and
selecting (Auto eht0). A notification appears and says "Disconnected" which has
incorerect urgency level "normal". ==> incorrect urgency
-
- P.S. connecting to a network should be either "urgent" or "normal"
- instead of "low".
-
-
- A screenshot is attached and the output from Terminal is:
-
- moo...@moomex-pc:~$ DEBUG=1 /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd
- ** Message: DEBUG mode enabled

[Bug 391130] Re: Incorrect urgency for NetworkManager

2010-01-03 Thread jango
But there is a problem with this urgency levels:
When waking up from suspend, the notification appears saying "Disconnected" at
exact the time when wireless networking has been connected again. But the
notification for "Wlan Connected" appears a lot of time later, because it has
low urgency level.

I suggest to make the networking notifications update-able, so that the right
status is posted at the right time.
When the connection is established again the "disconnected" notification should
update and write "connected" at exact this time.

Thanks,
Jango

sorry for spamming, but..
after i logged in and out for a few times and changed the resolution each time

"The only difference I can notice is that xsplash indeed watches for the
resolution change and afterwards stops drawing it's GUI elements at all. The
weird-sized background textures are still there."
I also had this issue on one or two startups, but not always. Atm it is gone.

I made a video of the recent situation:
*) The panel is showing up again, after the resolution change.
*) For my opinion the resolution change looks not good. Isn't it possible to
read the resolution earlier? So that xsplash has to change only once after
login.

Thanks a lot for your work!

[Bug 57210] Re: Search button does not toggle search field

2009-09-08 Thread jango
This flickering is because of a second partition mounted. If this partition is
unmounted, it doesn't flicker.
For every partition mounted the screen gets black once.
I will open a new bug report about this.

I am in holidays for 3 month :D, but i am not able to write C yet.

"Make the Search button a toggle button (which lets the search bar appear and
disappear)

What do you think about a "Go"-Button? There would be enough space for it.
There are people in the world, who make everything with their mouse.

[Bug 57210] Re: Search button does not toggle search field

2009-09-05 Thread jango
I actively search for them :D

Yea - I personally also can't decide what is the best. Because, if you
want back to the previous folder, you can use the back button, too. So
maybe it should do something else .

When i tried out your new patch, something interesting happened.
I started a search, and changed the criterion from location to file type. Then,
when clicking the "Reload"-button the whole screen flickers black after one
second. Can you confirm this? Found no bug-report about this issue.
This also happens in nautilus-2.27.91-0ubuntu3, so it has nothing to do with
the patch.

[Bug 57210] Re: Search button does not toggle search field

2009-09-03 Thread jango
There is another characteristic which is questionable.
When changing the location in the criterion bar, clicking onto the search
toggle opens this new location as a browser window.
It would be logical, if it would bring you back to the folder, where you
started the search.

For example:
The Documents-directory is your working place for some documents - then you
need a file there and search for it. You change the location in criterion bar,
so that it is detectable, and then you want to toggle back to your previous
directory. The location chosen in the criterion isn't important any more, it
was only for the search.

[Bug 57210] Re: Search button does not toggle search field

2009-09-01 Thread jango
i have just installed the new human-icon-theme version 0.34 which came with
updates today (September 1st).
There icon for the toggle (between text and button location bar) was made
smaller. So the button needy less space.
So this issue is fixed with human-theme, but still is present with other themes.

[Bug 57210] Re: Search button does not toggle search field

2009-09-01 Thread jango
A pic is attached, where you can see, that the search window is some pixels
smaller, than the navigation window.
When toggle to search window, the sidebar, and the folder content icons jump up
and down.

I think it is because of the removed button, which toggles between text-based
and button location bar.
This button needs more space than the text-input field.

[Bug 57210] Re: Search button does not toggle search field

2009-08-31 Thread jango
@black: I have tested your patch. Everything works fine, even the scenario
mentioned in the feedback.
But there is a little blemish when toggling between search field and navigation
window. The search window is some pixels smaller, so the content of the whole
nautilus-window jumps up and down. This probably is because of the removed
toggle between button and text-based location bar in the search window.

Is it possible to make both "windows" the same height? It looks really
awful.

Hi everyone!
I tested the patched kernel using Kamic on my T400.
Everything now works as it should.
The mute-button mutes the sound, a notification therefore is shown. Speakers
and also plugged-in headphones are muted.
Pressing again or pressing the volume-up button unmutes everything.
Love it!

2009-06-17 Thread jango
... except beeping on shutdown - i recognized it after posting my
comment!

I haven't tried the solution of Vytas
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/290204/comments/7)
 yet:
sudo sh -c 'echo blacklist pcspkr > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-custom'

But it should be able to make this setting (PC speaker beep on/off) in
audio settings!

I also never heard the logout sound in ubuntu :(, as reported above.

Beeping on shutdown happens also with the fast-user-switch-applet. It
was reported, that it wouldn't, but it does on my Thinkpad T400.

[Bug 77010] Re: Overuse of system beep without volume control

2009-06-17 Thread jango
There is another bug, #290204, only for beeping on shutdown.
but the solution posted by "w1zard" disables every beep! Fantastic! Legendary!

He wrote:
"An upgrade to Intrepid has re-enabled the 'bell' or 'beep' when clicking
'Shutdown' or at the login screen. There is no way in the GUI or standard Gnome
settings to reset this (none that work, anyway). The only way to disable it
again is:

run gconf-editor from terminal and set
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/bell_mode
to 'off' rather than 'on'

Not exactly easy to find for your experienced users, impossible for the average
user. At the very least this should setting should be migrated during an
upgrade, but should really be editable from the Sound properties tab."

This setting should be made in Audio-configurations! I am sure this can
be fixed in 100 paper cuts!

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2009-06-17 Thread jango
ok... i just didn't know, for what reason you would use this bug, because there
were things mixed up.
I had only the problem, that brightness was on lowest level on startup, but
this was repaired then.

However - it should be possible to fix this problem in 100 paper cuts,
because this behaviour is really annoying.

Brightness level should be as it was on shut down, or as it was set in
the preferences - and nothing else.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-06-16 Thread jango
I want to mention, that you can rename a marked file by pressing F2!
This is very useful, because you have to use your keyboard anyway. So pressing
F2 at first is no big deal.

But nobody knows that, or do you?
My suggestion to make this bug fit into "One Hundred Papercuts" is to add a
hint for this shortcut to the right-click menu.

Instead of:
"Rename..."
it can be written:
"Rename... F2"

So everybody knows, that he can also rename by pressing the F2 button
before he starts typing the new name.

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2009-06-16 Thread jango
I think, that there are some issues mixed!

To make it clear: The current brightness level is not saved at all on shut down.
The setting is read out of System -> Preferences -> Power Management -> "Set
display brightness to:"
Please set this parameter to a value you like. On start up the brightness will
always be as you set there.
If not, this is really a bug. So please open a new bug with detailed
description of your laptop.

If you like, that the current brightness level at shutdown is remembered
on startup, please set the importance to wishlist.

Someone explained a third issue: When laptop is idle it dims the brightness,
when in active use again the brightness management is confused.
If this is your problem please search related bugs for this problem.
