[Bug 617885] Re: gparted crash at start: glibmm-ERROR **

2010-11-24 Thread jayseye
Thank you Brian, Michael -

Great to hear that PowerPC will be included. However a backport from Natty
would be preferable because one other critical fix is also included from
upstream, along with other bug fixes (quoted below from their release notes).

Is there a procedure for an end-user to request a backport?

Thanks again,
jayseye

[Bug 617885] Re: gparted crash at start: glibmm-ERROR **

2010-11-24 Thread jayseye
Is this an x86-only build? It has yet to show up in Synaptic under PowerPC,
though many other packages *are* available from maverick-proposed.

The .deb mentioned above in comments #57 and #59 is still available, and still
dated November 4.

It's been made very clear that PowerPC is officially unsupported; however with
that .deb automatically built and working for Natty, wouldn't it take extra
effort to exclude that build from maverick-proposed?

Or does someone from the PowerPC team need to do something to accept it into
Ports? It would really help to understand the process: even just a link to a
specific doc would do.

Thanks,
jayseye

[Bug 617885] Re: gparted crash at start: glibmm-ERROR **

2010-11-21 Thread jayseye
Michael, thanks for the explanation. Re Comment #59 I am using that .deb under
Maverick, based on your info in Comment #53 stating that Natty was equivalent
to Maverick at that time. The .deb installed and worked flawlessly.

Perhaps this info may also be useful to you, Seth. In any case, thanks again
for the patch.

WRT GParted Live CD: the .zip version works fine when booted from a USB stick.
However the .ISO version reports some errors while booting from CD, on several
different PCs. The MD5 matches and the CD is error-free (zero c2 errors), so I
felt more confident using the USB version. Planning to report this to the
GParted project when I can assemble a complete bug report. Just mentioning it
here re Comment #62.

Regards,
jayseye

[Bug 617885] Re: gparted crash at start: glibmm-ERROR **

2010-11-15 Thread jayseye
Yes I can also confirm that the .deb which I mentioned above fixes the problem
on PowerPC. Here's a direct link:

It would be really great to see this version actually released and showing up
in Synaptic. I'd be willing to contribute some time / effort if there's
anything I could do to expedite that. Any useful advice on how to proceed?

Regards,
jayseye

[Bug 617885] Re: gparted crash at start: glibmm-ERROR **

2010-11-07 Thread jayseye
Have yet to find a binary package available in the repositories, at least for
PowerPC. However, .deb builds may be downloaded through the source package
page, under the word Builds:

While these probably still need testing, they at least save the work of
building from source.

2010-10-29 Thread jayseye
How long does it typically take for a new upstream version to be packaged for
Ubuntu?

Having the same problem on PowerPC under Maverick, and may build from source if
there will be more than a few days of lag time.

Thanks to all who have helped trace and fix this issue!

[Bug 586385] Re: linux-ports-meta not kept up to date

2010-08-28 Thread jayseye
Security Issue: Ubuntu update manager now reports that
"linux-image-2.6.32-24-powerpc 2.6.32-24.41" is available as a security update;
but that package's Description warns:

"You likely do not want to install this package directly. Instead, install the
linux-powerpc meta-package, which will ensure that upgrades work correctly, and
that supporting packages are also installed."

However, the linux-powerpc package is stuck at an earlier version, so the
kernel update cannot be applied through that meta-package. The resulting
confusion may cause users to ignore updates.

If we keep the linux-ports-meta package up-to-date, users will be encouraged to
apply the update when notified.

Are volunteers needed to assist in this process?

[Bug 66835] Re: Power Management Status icon displays incorrectly for Tripp Lite UPS

What additional information is required to change this bug's status from
'Incomplete' and get the issue fixed?

Same problem here under Gutsy on a Pentium 4.

[Bug 176149] Manual Workaround Re: GnomeBaker error for Import Session

2007-12-19 Thread jayseye
One of the Gnomebaker developers (Pygi) has replied to my posting #15 on this
thread:

 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=159835

and we have been following up on this. In particular, I reported a workaround
of manually editing a field to enter a mount point which the program fails to
detect. Details are in post #22 of the thread.

[Bug 176149] Brasero works

2007-12-13 Thread jayseye
Brasero was able to import the session, and to burn a subsequent
session. This is another difference from Bug #71684 where a comment
claimed that it was a backend problem. Also, the workaround mentioned
for that previous bug fails to help in this case.

[Bug 176149] GnomeBaker error for Import Session

2007-12-13 Thread jayseye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnomebaker

GnomeBaker 0.6.2 under Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) fails to import a session
which it has previously created. A dialog box reports "Error getting
information / unknown error". This is a different symptom than reported for Bug
#71684.

The error dialog occurs regardless of whether the CD is mounted; in fact,
GnomeBaker will successfully unmount the CD when trying to import the session.
However, the error occurs even if the CD is umounted manually before starting
up GnomeBaker.

This appears to be a new error in Gutsy, as the function used to work, per
message #6 in a thread:

 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=159835

K3b is able to import the first session from the same CD, so this appears to be
a GnomeBaker import bug. Posts on the GnomeBaker forums appear to go unanswered
for years, so am reporting here.

Steps to reproduce:
* Insert an appendable CD-R containing one session previously created using
GnomeBaker

* Start via Applications > Sound & Video > CD/DVD Writer GnomeBaker

* File > New Project > Data CD (or click Data CD button)

* Project > Import Session

Expected Behavior: Previously recorded session should be imported

Actual Behavior: Error dialog as detailed above

** Affects: gnomebaker (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
