It's possible the problem is with gnome-shell itself, but I should add
that gnome-shell runs successfully if I run it manually.

I have now tested a few days using the 32-bit flash plugin, and things
appear to still work. Upgraded to 12.04 and haven't seen any
flash-related problems either. Bug appears fixed.

It appears not to be occurring on 11.10 with the 64-bit flash plugin.
Have not tried the 32-bit flash plugin. My recollection is that the bug
went away when I started using the 64-bit flash beta a couple years ago.

I'll try downgrading to the current 32-bit flash plugin and see if it
comes back.

I haven't seen a tasklist-associated crash in a few months, although
I've been running Karmic for only about a week now. I don't know if this
is because the problem has been fixed or if something else is masking
it. I still get occasional Evolution crashes, they just don't appear so
clearly to be related to the task list.

[Bug 363943] [NEW] evolution-data-server quits when loading task list

2009-04-19 Thread jhaiduce
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

evolution-data-server quits sometimes after loading my task list.
Usually it works the first time but crashes after several loads.

For instance, if I start evolution and then click the Clock applet
several times, which causes the task list to load repeatedly inside the
clock, evolution-data-server will quit and Evolution will produce the
usual message, "The Evolution tasks have quit unexpectedly."

My task list is on a CalDAV server.

If I run evolution-data-server from the shell, it produces this output
before quitting:

I've been getting random crashes of evolution-data-server, with the
usual uninformative warning message, "The Evolution address

I was doing when the crash happened (I think I had just switched
workspaces to check on a new mail, perhaps not even touched evolution

the stack trace. This time evolution just locked up and did not provide

[Bug 356708] [NEW] evolution doesn't always display events from caldav calendar

2009-04-06 Thread jhaiduce
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a calendar stored on a caldav server, and when I first launch
evolution it (usually) doesn't display any events in the calendar view.
If I deselect the calendar and reselect it, the calendar sometimes
displays correctly, but sometimes only some of the events display. If I
deselect the calendar and re-select it a few times, it eventually
displays all the events. The particular events to be missing seem to
vary at random. Perhaps there is a race condition somewhere?

[Bug 322935] Re: Flash plugin fails to display

2009-02-04 Thread jhaiduce
The about:plugins page lists the Adobe flash plugin, 10.0r15, and has
the Totem Web Browser Plugin 2.24.3 associated with video/flv. I believe
the Adobe plugin is loading in most if not all cases.

I also have the swfdec 0.8.0 and gnash 0.8.4 packages installed,
although they don't appear in the about:plugins page. Before I disabled
the "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications" extension I was able to switch to
swfdec or gnash (although I never had any Flash content play
successfully using the open source plugins).

[Bug 322935] Re: Flash plugin fails to display

2009-02-04 Thread jhaiduce
I think I found the culprit. I disabled the extension called "Ubuntu
Firefox Modifications" and that seems to make the Flash problem go away.
Occasionally Flash objects come up as grey boxes (with a "Transferring
data from..." message in the status bar) but they load when I refresh
the page.

[Bug 261716] Re: window list goes blank with compiz

2009-01-31 Thread jhaiduce
I see this blanking constantly, often but not always triggered by
switching workspaces. I also find that when I switch workspaces or close
windows, the window list takes longer to reflect the change when compiz
is running. The problem seems to go away if I select the "Expand" option
on the panel containing the window list.

To reproduce:

1) Turn off the "Expand" option on the panel containing the window list
2) Switch workspaces, and the window list will take longer than usual to
reflect the change. At some point the window list will blank as well.

I have an integrated NVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 with the Nvidia
177.82 driver.

[Bug 322935] [NEW] Flash plugin fails to display

2009-01-29 Thread jhaiduce
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

Flash animations occasionally fail to display in Firefox. Normally Flash
works when the browser is first opened and later on Flash stops working.
Flash items are replaced by a grey box. When I re-start Firefox the
Flash plugin works again for a time.

I found that if I switch to one of the open source Flash plugins and
then switch back, the problem occurs immediately, but even if I do
nothing Flash-related in the meantime, the Flash plugin eventually stops
working.

[Bug 322931] [NEW] Print dialog hangs when print server is off

2009-01-29 Thread jhaiduce
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

My printer is on another computer and I print to it using IPP. Both
systems are ubuntu systems running cups servers. When the computer with
the printer is powered down and I try to print from a Gnome application,
the program hangs for 1-3 minutes before displaying the print dialog. If
the external print server is on the print dialog appears immediately.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10, the external server is running 8.04, and cups
1.3.9-2ubuntu6.1

[Bug 280981] Re: Network won't re-connect after suspend to RAM

2008-10-14 Thread jhaiduce
I don't think this is a duplicate...they're similar but in my case the
forcedeth module is loaded after resume.

I just tried manually unloading forcedeth after resume and then re-
loading it. When I do so the system claims to have detected a link but
NetworkManager can't get an IP address.

[Bug 280981] [NEW] Network won't re-connect after suspend to RAM

2008-10-09 Thread jhaiduce
Public bug reported:

When I resume from suspend-to-RAM, my network connection is gone.
NetworkManager says "No network connection," and when I say "sudo
ethtool eth0" it says "Link detected: no". Networking still works after
suspend to disk.

I'm using Intrepid, using an upgrade install from Hardy. Suspend-to-disk
worked correctly under Hardy, has never worked since upgrading to
Intrepid.

My network card uses the forcedeth driver. The computer is an HP
Pavilion amd64; I'm using the 64-bit version of Ubuntu.

I'm one of those duplicates. I experienced a crash shortly after
