[Bug 155547] Re: Thunderbird typing in compose window is occasionally very slow

2009-03-01 Thread jnewm
Actually, I take it back, I just solved it for my computer. Apparently the
typing delay was just an extreme instance of the generally slow video
performance of my Intel 865g (82865g) processor with the Mesa drivers. I'm
trying to figure out how to switch to the Intel drivers with Intrepid, but in
the meantime simply adding:
Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
Under the "Device Section" to my xorg.conf made a HUGE difference, and now
there is no delay!
Which reminds me, I should note that the bug that makes it so the default video
drivers assigned to the Intel 865g have such awful performance is a pretty
nasty one. I almost gave up on Ubuntu on this computer, until I found the
helpful forum post suggesting the above change. Sadly, I'm sure a lot of
people will just give up when the video performance makes the whole system run
so slow...
Thanks!
Jesse

[Bug 155547] Re: Thunderbird typing in compose window is occasionally very slow

2009-03-01 Thread jnewm
Same for me in 8.10. It's all the time. When I compose a message, the
keystrokes have about a 5 second delay. It's pretty frustrating. I hope
someone can fix this.
Thanks,
Jesse

[Bug 288675] Re: no partitions listed in partition table

2009-01-27 Thread jnewm
Ditto the thanks NickSpencer. I had the same problem using Unetbootin for
Ubuntu 8.10 and going to install through the Live CD.
PS I actually unmounted my hard drive though, I think; I put sudo umount -l -r
-f /dev/sda1 (after using sda3 didn't work). Then my hard drive popped up in
Nautilus under My Computer. And when I started install, my partitions showed
up.

[Bug 29043] Re: gpilotd runs away with CPU after completing hotsync

2008-02-03 Thread jnewm
Similar for me on Gutsy. After I run a successful JPilot sync,
"gpilotd" starts using massive CPU. I'm also using "usb:" in my JPilot
preferences.

[Bug 98605] Re: Sound problems on hibernate, IBM T41

2007-09-13 Thread jnewm
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 80893 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/80893

Same thing on an IBM T40. Also no problems in earlier versions of edgy
and feisty. Sound won't work after standby until I shut completely down
and turn back on. Another crazy thing is that unplugging my AC cord not
only continues to make the beep while the rest of the sound is out, but
if I have music playing while I unplug and plug back in the AC, I can
also hear the music alongside the beep for that split second. Very
strange...
