[Bug 1064192] Re: [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 adds support for xserver ABI 13 [quantal]
Hi all, I managed to load and install this new nvidia-173 driver from quantal-proposed restricted (173.14.36). Installation on my ubuntu 12.10 amd64 seems to be Ok, load of nvidia driver seems to be correct while booting for my Geforce FX 5700 LE (I don't find any error in logs). BUT Unity fails to start at login (see x-0-greeter.log attached). I need to manualy restart Unity from a terminal session to access desktop on X and then no launcher and no windows headers are displayed. Through CCSM, I have deactivated all effects, tried to unselect/reselect unity plugin to resolve conflicts with other plugins (CCSM signals plugins that have to be deactivated...) but no result ! Any idea about my issue ? Is this driver supposed to be Unity compatible ? ** Attachment added: "x-0-greeter.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-173/+bug/1064192/+attachment/3500620/+files/x-0-greeter.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1064192 Title: [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 adds support for xserver ABI 13 [quantal] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-173/+bug/1064192/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 392204] Re: Huge CPU usage by mount.ntfs process
Wrong, Sam. If you were to create a new "really big" partition for use on a mobile rack or an USB-disk for data exchange with the "outer world", what would be your choice? I think, NTFS as the "common denominator" which is somehow understood by the most OSes (and, what might be even more important) "appliances" like media players (which have a linux on board, but cannot handle anything except of FAT/NTFS on drives attached to them). Another case (well, my one) is a sorta "legacy" - NTFS disks which were moved from a windoze HTPC to an ubuntu NAS. [Bug 395892] Re: [Karmic] mount.ntfs-3g high CPU utilization and causes sytem sluggishness and unresponsive cursor.
I do confirm 10.04 has the same misfeature. Well, some long files (up to 1024K in size) that were unable to copy under 9.10 now copied fine with some tamburine dance - I have to re-read directories before any new copy run to get something about 7..10Mbps on USB-drive. Longer files are still unmovable - the "speed" drops to almost zero and the gauage freeze on "30 minutes left". This looks true for mere cp(1), ^C/^V in Nautilus, or even with rsync. -- [Karmic] mount.ntfs-3g high CPU utilization and causes sytem sluggishness and unresponsive cursor. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395892 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 395892] Re: [Karmic] mount.ntfs-3g high CPU utilization and causes sytem sluggishness and unresponsive cursor.
When a USB-HDD was attached, I was able to move there about 10G from local HDD. Then ntfs.mount process taken up to 100% of CPU and the thruoutput rate dropped dramatically from about 7Mb/s to almost zero. ls(1) on that disk became slow too. In general, sudo rmmod uvcvideo/sudo modprobe uvcvideo makes me happy. If I need a USB service and it fails, I knock out the driver. If I want webcam (quite a rare occasion), I load it back. So, "custom" 10.G firmware installed on Roverbook Neo U100 (MSI Wind U100 re-branded). VideoCam is ok (in cheese), USB devices (mouse, "disks") are ok, brightness problem gone, Wi-Fi and BT are switched on/off separately. Re: [Bug 435352] Re: regression: uvcvideo module makes "cannot reset port" error on usb with bison webcam (5986:0203): USB and suspend fails
BTW, there is a custom version of 10.G with modified kbd actions: http://msiw.ru/forum/25-819-13561-16-1263232682 The most interesting is the use of Fn+F11 to switch Wi-Fi solely and Ctrl+Fn+F11 to switch BT (that means no interrupts in Wi-Fi while switching BT on or off). I make use the previous version of that custom firmware and it was Ok. I plan to upgrade to the version soon. SOLUTION (HACKAROUND) FOUND! [Bug 68594] Re: No cyrillic input in apps under wine.
I do confirm and clarify: There are DIFFERENT problems: 1. some applications (like notepad.exe from wine distro) may be made to write cyrillics using non russian locale (see screenshots). 2. others (like Lotus Notes in my case) will loose the ability to *display* cyrillics in non-russian locale and, hence, cannot be "fixed" that way. ** Attachment added: "proper locale - nothing works" http://librarian.launchpad.net/7361944/Screenshot.png -- No cyrillic input in apps under wine. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/68594 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
