/etc/sysctl.d/30-nepomuk-inotify-limit.conf -- I do not have such a
file.

but `cat /etc/sysctl.d/*.conf /etc/sysctl.conf | sudo sysctl -p -` gives

error: "Invalid argument" setting key "fs.inotify.max_user_watches"

as well as

error: "kernel.maps_protect" is an unknown key
error: "sys.kernel.maps_protect" is an unknown key
error: "net.ipv4.ip_always_defrag" is an unknown key

well, `grep fs.inotify.max_user_watches /etc/sysctl.d/*.conf
/etc/sysctl.conf ` gives

/etc/sysctl.d/30-spideroak.conf:fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 65536
/etc/sysctl.conf:fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 524288

The last one looks odd.

Well, no values in range 8K..512K meet the need :(

After commenting out *all* the erratic lines, it was made to work
finally.

[Bug 1064192] Re: [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 adds support for xserver ABI 13 [quantal]

2013-01-25 Thread jno
Hi all,
I managed to load and install this new nvidia-173 driver from quantal-proposed
restricted (173.14.36).
Installation on my ubuntu 12.10 amd64 seems to be Ok, load of nvidia driver
seems to be correct while booting for my Geforce FX 5700 LE (I don't find any
error in logs). BUT Unity fails to start at login (see x-0-greeter.log
attached).
I need to manualy restart Unity from a terminal session to access desktop on X
and then no launcher and no windows headers are displayed. Through CCSM, I have
deactivated all effects, tried to unselect/reselect unity plugin to resolve
conflicts with other plugins (CCSM signals plugins that have to be
deactivated...) but no result !
Any idea about my issue ? Is this driver supposed to be Unity compatible ?

[Bug 1104069] [NEW] Empty file name removal

2013-01-24 Thread jno
Public bug reported:

So, it's duplicity 0.6.18
in Python 2.7.3
under 3.2.0-29-generic x86_64
from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server
on amd64-based hp n36l microserver
talking to olbiz.net
served by Pure-FTPd using TLS
backed by GlusterFS.

The duplicity is being ran via duply version 1.5.5.4
Using installed duplicity version 0.6.18, python 2.7.3, gpg 1.4.11, awk 'GNU
Awk 3.1.8', bash '4.2.24(1)-release (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu)'.

One may see this "error" (actually, annoying misfeature):

Running 'lftp -c 'source /tmp/duplicity-CmoCxx-tempdir/mkstemp-4Typ9m-1;cd
'backup3/blackbox/';rm '' failed with code 1 (attempt #2)
Error is:
Usage: rm [-r] [-f] files...

in my case it's in /usr/share/pyshared/duplicity/backends/ftpsbackend.py
@ delete() method def

I'd propose to guard the last 3 lines (remote_dir = ...; command_line =
...; self.popen_persist(commandline)) with something like

if filelist.rstrip() : # don't even try to remove empty names

I.e. just do nothing if no filenames were given to remove.

[Bug 392204] Re: Huge CPU usage by mount.ntfs process

2012-07-23 Thread jno
Wrong, Sam.
If you were to create a new "really big" partition for use on a mobile rack or
an USB-disk for data exchange with the "outer world", what would be your
choice? I think, NTFS as the "common denominator" which is somehow understood
by the most OSes (and, what might be even more important) "appliances" like
media players (which have a linux on board, but cannot handle anything except
of FAT/NTFS on drives attached to them).
Another case (well, my one) is a sorta "legacy" - NTFS disks which were moved
from a windoze HTPC to an ubuntu NAS. Would you want me to re-format all those
disks?

[Bug 1000655] [NEW] 3.2.0-24-generic-pae panics on an encrypted LVM/LUKS root mount - system unaccessible

2012-05-17 Thread jno
Public bug reported:

I have a full disk encrypted using LVM/LUKS.
When I boot with 3.2.0-23-generic-pae, that's ok.
With 3.2.0-24-generic-pae I get kernel panic and system freeze.

/dev/dm-0 is active and is in use.

[Bug 395892] Re: [Karmic] mount.ntfs-3g high CPU utilization and causes sytem sluggishness and unresponsive cursor.

2010-05-10 Thread jno
I do confirm 10.04 has the same misfeature.

Well, some long files (up to 1024K in size) that were unable to copy
under 9.10 now copied fine with some tamburine dance - I have to re-read
directories before any new copy run to get something about 7..10Mbps on
USB-drive. Longer files are still unmovable - the "speed" drops to
almost zero and the gauage freeze on "30 minutes left".

This looks true for mere cp(1), ^C/^V in Nautilus, or even with rsync.

[Bug 395892] Re: [Karmic] mount.ntfs-3g high CPU utilization and causes sytem sluggishness and unresponsive cursor.

2010-04-25 Thread jno
When a USB-HDD was attached, I was able to move there about 10G from local HDD.
Then ntfs.mount process taken up to 100% of CPU and the thruoutput rate dropped
dramatically from about 7Mb/s to almost zero. ls(1) on that disk became
slow too.

JFYI: U100, BIOS 10g, 2.6.31-20-generic, Bison webcam works (when uvcvideo
is loaded) in cheese and gstreamer-properties test, Fn+F6 is never touched
(red lamp turns on automagically when program starts).

In general, sudo rmmod uvcvideo/sudo modprobe uvcvideo makes me happy.
If I need a USB service and it fails, I knock out the driver. If I want
webcam (quite a rare occasion), I load it back.

So, "custom" 10.G firmware installed on Roverbook Neo U100 (MSI Wind U100
re-branded).

VideoCam is ok (in cheese), USB devices (mouse, "disks") are ok, brightness
problem gone, Wi-Fi and BT are switched on/off separately.

BTW, there is a custom version of 10.G with modified kbd actions:
http://msiw.ru/forum/25-819-13561-16-1263232682
The most interesting is the use of Fn+F11 to switch Wi-Fi solely and
Ctrl+Fn+F11 to switch BT (that means no interrupts in Wi-Fi while switching
BT on or off).
I make use the previous version of that custom firmware and it was Ok.
I plan to upgrade to the version soon.

[Bug 68594] Re: No cyrillic input in apps under wine.

2007-04-20 Thread jno
SOLUTION (HACKAROUND) FOUND!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/X11/locale$ ll ru_RU.UTF-8
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2007-04-20 14:41 ru_RU.UTF-8 -> en_US.UTF-8/

As it was ok to type in the cyrillics using en_US.UTF-8 locale, I've just
symlinked it to ru_RU.UTF-8.
My tests using notepad.exe and Lotus Notes are fine.

Have luck, folks!

[Bug 68594] Re: No cyrillic input in apps under wine.

2007-04-20 Thread jno
I do confirm and clarify:

There are DIFFERENT problems:
1. some applications (like notepad.exe from wine distro) may be made to write
cyrillics using non russian locale (see screenshots).
2. others (like Lotus Notes in my case) will loose the ability to *display*
cyrillics in non-russian locale and, hence, cannot be "fixed" that way.

[Bug 84702] Re: firefox 2.0.0.1 crashed on multiple extension addition (after "restart firefox")

2007-02-12 Thread jno
It could start even in "normal" (i.e. without any other switches) mode.
But some extensions I've choosen to install seem to be lost.

Really cool toy:

$ echo '"%d"' | zenity --text-info --editable
"-1081300012"
$ echo '"%x"' | zenity --text-info --editable
"bff17a24"

I've tried to use this tool as an editor.
I've used the command
$ zenity --text-info --editable < zrc.py
typed space, then "-Ou" just in the first line and clicked "Ok"...
