[Bug 1969243] Re: gdm 42.0-1ubuntu4 no longer shows Wayland option

2022-04-15 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
I have no session menu at all after upgrading to Jammy today. Is this
the right bug report for it, or should I open a new one? It wasn't
entirely clear to me from the description.

[Bug 1947365] [NEW] Regression in nested virtualization on 5.13.0-19-generic

2021-10-15 Thread Jo Shields
Public bug reported:

I have a Windows 11 KVM VM I use for work. After updating to Ubuntu
21.10 from 21.04, it has started locking up on boot (regardless of
whether or not I enable a virtual TPM). I tried reinstalling the VM with
Windows' "Reset PC" function, which restored boot - until I installed
WSL2, which depends on HyperV virtualization. After installing WSL2, it
was failing exactly as before.

However, if I boot with my old 21.04 kernel, linux-
image-5.11.0-37-generic, the VM boots fine. This indicates a regression
lies in the nested virtualization, i.e. HyperV-in-KVM

[Bug 387957] Re: Improve Save As Dialog Box (focus issues)

2021-04-21 Thread Jo Wilkes
This is a very irritating thing, and should be easy to solve. The fix is just
changing initial focus!
Hard to understand this has been open for 12 years now.

There's even a risk of data loss by unintentionally overwriting a file
when one types, *as it works just fine on all other OS*, the filename to
save the file as and hits return... overwriting some other file that
just happened to "match" the "filter".

[Bug 1882232] Re: install chromium-browser in a chroot fails

2020-06-05 Thread Jo K
To reproduce

apt install ansible -y
ansible localhost -m apt -a "name=chromium-browser"

You can try it in a container. That's not exactly a chroot but...

docker run --rm -it ubuntu:latest /bin/bash
apt update && apt install ansible -y
ansible localhost -m apt -a "name=chromium-browser"

[Bug 1882232] [NEW] install chromium-browser in a chroot fails

Since snapd integration, chromium-browser package fails to install in a post

As APT obfuscate snap installation, I worry about auto installation off any

All Ubuntu systems are affected.
That's not related to a personal configuration, booting live latest ubuntu let

Its more clear on tty, as you see username field resets, but it's the

So should i open a bug for agetty package instead ?

Nothing but i misexplained, bug isn't related to the fact that account exists
or not.
Please try to enter in a tty that exact login :

'username.lastnamelastnamelastn...@domain.fr'

It reset without asking for password, and the error line is added to
auth.log

Then try :

'username.lastn...@domain.fr'

It asks for password, even that account doesn't exists, and the error
line isn't added

[Bug 1865517] [NEW] cannot log in with long username

2020-03-02 Thread Jo K
Public bug reported:

We use ldap authentication with mail addresses as usernames.
So usernames are not posix and some are > 32 chars but are working.

Some of them fire a bug :
When trying to log, it doesn't asks for password, it just wait some seconds
then reset to ask username.

I can't clearly identify which regex fire the bug or not but this one does
"username.lastnamelastnamelastn...@domain.fr"

I reproduce it on ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 daylibuild.

In auth.log, that line pops up when bug is started

"Mar 2 16:23:14 premier agetty[97945]: checkname failed: Operation not
permitted"

[Bug 1520033] Re: ftbfs on s390x

2020-02-19 Thread Jo Shields
Bisecting just via speculative CI uploads is pretty horrible.

I threw an upstream 6.10 (December 2019 branch) tarball at a PPA, and it
built, and previously had the same failures with a 6.6 tarball (August
2019 branch). So somewhere in that range, the issues with Focal were
fixed.

Am still working on improving the CI story upstream with IBM, but that's
not going to happen in time.

I think 2 is dead as an option.

That commit doesn't help on Ubuntu. Since there are no Ubuntu
porterboxes, and the VM I requested from IBM hasn't materialised yet,
I've got no scope for trying to bisect this on Ubuntu.

[Bug 1520033] Re: ftbfs on s390x

2020-02-19 Thread Jo Shields
Sorry for dropping the ball on this.

We have 3 options:

1) Drop s390x for Focal

2) Backport a commit which, in testing, inexplicably appears to fix
s390x, at least on Debian Sid - but there's a LOT of churn around it, so
it's tough to backport (491a4d5da8e523d6191e6027ea7f3cee226d6ba8)

3) Update to at least Mono 6.8 (6.6 is definitely bad, 6.10 is
definitely good, the relevant commit would _just_ have missed the 6.6
branch date so should be in 6.8)

Personally, I think option 3 is the best of the 3.

Dear Timo Aaltonen,

Thank you for your reaction on the kernel bug report.
I want to provide you and all concerned with the information that is needed
to solve the problem.
Unfortunately, my computer skills are just above the user level.
I do not want to ruin the system. Or spoil the results.
So please talk me through.

Exactly, how to perform this test with 'nopti' kernel boot option ?
Please make clear to me what to do.

What is the result of this test you do need ?
So, I will be able to post or send the needed information.

With kind regards,

[Bug 1839381] [NEW] Regression after Kernel updates: Failed Boots with LUKS on LVM

2019-08-07 Thread Jo Bakker
Public bug reported:

Regression after the Kernel Updates after april 26th, all result in Failed Boot
with LUKS on LVM.
Occurs on several IBM PC symtems with UBUNTU 16.04 and Xubuntu 18.04.
Fresh installation with the newest version and update does not give a better
result.

All Pentium ibm pc´s with Ubuntu 16.04 and one with Xubuntu 18.04 have been
installed with the standard full HDD encryption, LUKS on LVM. Decryption at
startup worked fine for years until april the 26th of 2019. Since these
(kernel) updates the regression problem occurs and stays.

After Powering on the system, the boot process will start. LUKS asks for the
key.
After entering the key the decryption will start, but comes to an abrupt end
before the startup (boot and decryption) is finished. Nothing is possible in
that situation. The screen is frozen. The HDD is inactive. Switching off the
power is the only way out.

After this failed boot, restarting the system, the grub menu shows for
some seconds. After that LUKS asks for the key. Entering the key results
in a completed startup and normal usable system.

Is this enough information to understand the problem ?
Or let me know what other information you need.

Is there a way out of this problem ? Or
Is there a simple way to circumvent this problem ?

Kind regards

@patclash I don't see any fix in the PPA package?

The lack of stdc++compat handling on ppc64el seems untouched.

The mangling of
std::thread::_M_start_thread(std::unique_ptr >, void (*)()) and
std::thread::_State::~_State() is supposed to be handled by the block in
build/unix/stdc++compat/stdc++compat.cpp starting at line 104:

#if MOZ_LIBSTDCXX_VERSION >= GLIBCXX_VERSION(3, 4, 21)
/* Expose the definitions for the old ABI, allowing us to call its functions */
#  define _GLIBCXX_THREAD_ABI_COMPAT 1
#  include

namespace std {
/* The old ABI has a thread::_M_start_thread(shared_ptr<_Impl_base>),
 * while the new has thread::_M_start_thread(unique_ptr<_State>, void(*)()).
 * There is an intermediate ABI at version 3.4.21, with
 * thread::_M_start_thread(shared_ptr<_Impl_base>, void(*)()).
 * The void(*)() parameter is only there to keep a reference to pthread_create
 * on the caller side, and is unused in the implementation
 * We're creating an entry point for the new and intermediate ABIs, and make
 * them call the old ABI. */

__attribute__((weak)) void thread::_M_start_thread(shared_ptr<_Impl_base> impl,
   void (*)()) {
  _M_start_thread(std::move(impl));
}

#  if MOZ_LIBSTDCXX_VERSION >= GLIBCXX_VERSION(3, 4, 22)
/* We need a _Impl_base-derived class wrapping a _State to call the old ABI
 * from what we got by diverting the new API */
struct StateWrapper : public thread::_Impl_base {
  unique_ptr mState;

  StateWrapper(unique_ptr aState) :
mState(std::move(aState)) {}

  void _M_run() override { mState->_M_run(); }
};

__attribute__((weak)) void thread::_M_start_thread(unique_ptr<_State> aState,
   void (*)()) {
  auto impl = std::make_shared(std::move(aState));
  _M_start_thread(std::move(impl));
}

/* For some reason this is a symbol exported by new versions of libstdc++,
 * even though the destructor is default there too */
__attribute__((weak)) thread::_State::~_State() = default;
#  endif
}  // namespace std
#endif

I don't know what's broken in the build process causing this code not to
be included in ppc64el builds.

[Bug 1819013] Re: Hard dependency on libstdc++ 6.1.0 at runtime on ppc64el on xenial

2019-03-18 Thread Jo Shields
I'm not certain about the fine detail, but looking at the relevant build
logs:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/411366522/buildlog_ubuntu-xenial-ppc64el.firefox_65.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_BUILDING.txt.gz
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/411366844/buildlog_ubuntu-xenial-amd64.firefox_65.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_BUILDING.txt.gz

There's definitely something different about how they're building
build/unix/stdc++compat/stdc++compat.cpp, the library which is supposed
to handle hiding the libstdc++ ABI issues.

[Bug 1585979] Re: Missing library causes activity journal to not run.

2017-08-10 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Yes, that works. So I guess the only thing to do is to add zeitgeist as
a dependency to the gnome-activity-journal package.

It would be nice if someone could do that.

[Bug 1610721] [NEW] Ctrl+S in terminal causes shutdown/reboot (init) to hang

2016-08-07 Thread Jo Liss
Public bug reported:

1. Boot an Ubuntu 16.04 machine that doesn't have an X server installed
2. When you get the terminal log-in prompt (on tty1), instead of logging in,
press Ctrl+S to stop terminal flow
3. Connect to the machine via SSH
4. Run "sudo init 0" via SSH

The init command hangs. Only when you press Ctrl+Q in the terminal does
the machine shut down.

This behavior is confusing when you accidentally hit Ctrl+S. It also
means that you cannot shut down or reboot the machine remotely if
someone has pressed Ctrl+S locally.

Pressing the power button instead of running "init 0" produces the
behavior as well - nothing happens until you press Ctrl+Q.

I'm attaching a screen recording to illustrate the problem.

[Bug 1608715] [NEW] "Less than" symbol sent as "greater than" on remote desktop

2016-08-01 Thread Jo
Public bug reported:

When connected to a remote Ubuntu machine, whenever I try to type the
"less than" symbol ("<") it appears as the "greater than" symbol (">")
in the remote machine. Whenever I type ">" it appears correctly.
Consequently, it is impossible for me to type "<" in the remote desktop.
I am using a US English keyboard.

[Bug 1573974] Re: makepasswd hangs

2016-05-17 Thread Jo Liss
The "hanging" behavior seems to be happening because makepasswd reads
from /dev/random. A workaround is to mash keys or move the mouse to
generate entropy. This only works if you have physical access to the
machine. It doesn't work if you're logged in via SSH.

The man page for makepasswd advertises that makepasswd uses
/dev/urandom. I believe/assume that this was the behavior in 14.04,
since I've only had this problem in 16.04. I'd like to suggest changing
it back to /dev/urandom.

[Bug 1581163] [NEW] "man fuse" refers to non-existent "fuse" group

2016-05-12 Thread Jo Liss
Public bug reported:

`man fuse` from package fuse 2.9.4-1ubuntu3 amd64 on Ubuntu Server
Xenial (16.04) says:

SECURITY
   The fusermount program is installed set-user-gid to fuse. This is
done to allow users from fuse group to mount their
   own filesystem implementations.

I think this used to be true in 14.04, but it's no longer true in 16.04.
`/bin/fusermount` is now set-uid root, and there is no `fuse` group:

$ ls -l /bin/fusermount
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 30800 Mar 11 15:43 /bin/fusermount
$ grep fuse /etc/group
$

I'm not sure if there *should* be a `fuse` group, or if the man page
needs to be updated.

[Bug 1551532] Re: java crashed with SIGABRT in JNU_GetEnv()

2016-04-22 Thread JoMarcos Silva e Ara
To solve that, I used 'sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-*'. But, on the
place of *, you put the rest of the name package. Example:
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-jre-headless

OR DO THIS, and MAYBE work

sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-jre-headless
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-demo
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-dbg
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-doc
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-jre
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-jdk
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-jdk-headless
sudo dpkg --remove --force-all openjdk-9-source

Then:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-*
