And what is the reason for this failure on your system?
Is the config file of lilo empty? Or not filled? Or without image?
And what is the type of boot partition and its filesystem?
Or is it RAID? What type / version?

Without any of this information nobody can help you and your system.

Have a nice day.

Argh. This hit me again because I didn't remember that mysql is needed running
while the upgrade runs.
Very annoying.

courier-authdaemond needs to be running, too.

Seems like the postinst script blindly assumes all services are running
so it can take them down.

[Bug 558571] Re: /etc/ld.so.nohwcap missing

2015-08-23 Thread Joachim Durchholz
I can confirm that the strace noise is quite annoying.
Particularly for programs that load a huge list of plugins and libraries, such
as xfce4-settings-manager.
(A similar problem exists for programs checking a long list of fallbacks for
translation and configuration files.)

I don't think the issue is invalid, a fix would require escalating this
quite far upstream though.

Will this be fixed with the next linux image update? Otherwise, I have
to pin the current version.

importing the new version into vivid which currently has 0.9-1.

What you refer to is the version in Wily which was imported in July.

[Bug 1447807] Re: systemctl enable fails to enable a SysV service

2015-05-03 Thread Joachim R.
@pitti I don't understand. @eheydrick said update-rc.d suscceed but
systemd still rturning an error. So why update-rc.d or manual symlink
would change anything ?

This still an issue. Systemd states it is compatible with init.d script.
So it should work.

I have the same issue with a script that is already enabled, but
enabling or starting it ends up with the "Failed to execute operation:
No such file or directory".

[Bug 1296288] Re: pcscd crashes when disconnecting / reconnecting USB device

2015-07-26 Thread Joachim Jacob
I am using device 1a44:0001 VASCO Data Security International Digipass 905
SmartCard Reader
I am on Ubuntu 14.04.

Unplugging or plugging in this device causes pscsd to crash. Syslog output:
Jul 26 18:36:10 Studio-Hybrid-140g kernel: [ 1869.326342] pcscd[5518]: segfault
at 7fd75e71f248 ip 7fd75e71f248 sp 7fd75e70fee0 error 14 in
libgcc_s.so.1[7fd75e92d000+16000]

Not able to resolve the crash, and get my card reader reliably working.
BUT I have a workaround, for who's fighting with this.

Kill pcscd. Plug the smart card reader in, and within one second (!) restart
pcscd:
sudo service pcscd restart

The smartcard reader gets detected, and pcscd keeps on running. For what
it's worth... Hope this helps.

[Bug 1479280] [NEW] Sync libde265 1.0.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2015-07-29 Thread Joachim Bauch
Public bug reported:

Please sync libde265 1.0.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

The new upstream version contains mostly bugfixes and support for decoding
additional chroma formats and bit depths.
No incompatible changes have been introduced and the dependencies were also not
modified.

Changelog entries since current vivid version 0.9-1:

libde265 (1.0.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Imported Upstream version 1.0.2
  * Added new files to copyright information.
  * Only export decoder API and update symbols for new version.

[Bug 684162] Re: audex can't encode AAC

2014-05-03 Thread Joachim Nuesch
Hi tuxiano

This bug was fixed upstream in version 1.73b2. I think this is a new bug. I
don't rip so I don't use audex anymore...
Try to get in touch with the developper on kde-apps.org. So the bug can be
fixed upstreams. This worked for me.

Best regards

Came to think of it and it have been an issue since 11.10. Thats two and
a half year! We know it have to do with the translation and we have done
it for a long time. There is a fix around, but it still don't make it to
the final.

This duplicate is my fault, my apport reported a different nvidia
version than the nvidia version in the existing bug, so I was not sure
it was the same bug.

Indeed. I have much more alert of this kind since 14.10.
System update is a huge source of problems, an gnome15 became unusable too.

2015-01-22 Thread Joachim R.
@dino99 : the bug is invalid for nvidia-graphics-drivers-331-updates but still
exists.
As seen in a "useless" comment, this must be a stop for people coming from MS
Windows.

When you look at the workaround, it may be a lightdm or apt bug. What do you
suggest ?
Flagging this bug as invalid seems OK, but not sufficient nor constructive. A
workaround is a workaround, not a fix nor an acceptable situation.
Helping bug reporter to find the right package to report against may help to
solve bug #1.

@wgrant: thanx

@all : at least some motivated dev should take a look at what is the
origin of the bug to report it against the right package(s)

[Bug 1288319] Re: [ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. U38N] suspend/resume failure [non-free: fglrx wl]

2015-02-06 Thread Joachim Johansson
After doing several reinstallations, and using several different
kernels, it appears that the problem is caused by TLP.

http://linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-linux-advanced-power-management.html
https://launchpad.net/~linrunner/+archive/ubuntu/tlp

I will do some further testings, but everything so far points in that
direction.

Please: look at first into /etc/lilo.conf: is there a line "boot=" and
a line "root="? Then check the images at the end of this file. Are there
images? And to which files the images will be linked?

The next step could be: download and install the newest lilo package of
Ubuntu (upstream version 24.1) which should solve many problems with
liloconfig. Then try again liloconfig.

Please give me feedback about your results.

Have a nice day.

And what is the reason of this bug? Without any more information I
cannot help! What is the boot medium and the boot partition? Is it
a raid or not? How looks the resulting lilo.conf?

Have a nice day.

[Bug 983879] Re: Failed to hibernate session not authorized Acer Aspire 5750-9668

2012-11-01 Thread Joachim Durchholz
To the very least, whoever made the decision to disable hibernate mode should
get feedback about how many people were affected.
It would help making future informed decisions about the issue.

Also, there should be a way to discover how to re-enable hibernate mode. I was
unaware of that help page about hibernate mode and hadn't found it via Google,
so I was left entirely in the dark.
Mucking around with polkit shouldn't be the workaround, too. It should be an
option somewhere in the system settings. With proper warnings, of course, so
people don't come complaining if it doesn't work (and maybe some code that
collects hardware data and gives feedback to the Ubuntu team both for "works"
and "does not work" cases so that hardware can be whitelisted).

I'm not sure whether such a bug report exists.

I've tried so many times without success. Got a screenshot but that will

Logitech wireless USB mouse on 12.04. Single mouse click ~15% of the

most irritating, and frustrating, bug that I've seen in some time.

[Bug 1017692] Re: Regression : Webcam not detected anymore

2012-07-01 Thread Joachim R.
Christopher, if you read carefully this bug page, I already tested
upstream kernel and removed "needs-upstream-testing".

This bug is a regression of Ubuntu 12.04, webcam was working fine with
ubuntu 11.10.

Will report lsusb test results with "live cd" later.

[Bug 1017692] Re: Regression : Webcam not detected anymore

2012-07-02 Thread Joachim R.
I'm sorry about that, you're message looked a little bit "automated".
I attached lsusb and lspci as my webcam is integrated and so lsusb may not be
useful (issued from 11.10 live cd)

Linux 3.5 rc5 doesn"t changed anything.

I seems live cd from previous versions do not detect my webcam. So it is
most likely an hardware failure that occurred just after 12.04 install !
So bad...

[Bug 1034919] [NEW] krusader sftp fails (timeout) if server using proftp

2012-08-09 Thread Joachim Geiler
Public bug reported:

I am using kubuntu 12.04 and krusader 2.4.0-beta1 which comes with 12.04.
sftp is possible to all hosts, which do sftp via sshd. With servers using
proftp it is not (timeout). Krusader 2.0.0 (in Ubuntu 10.04) has no problem to
connect to the proftp-server.

** Affects: krusader (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1017692] [NEW] Regression : Webcam no more detected

2012-06-25 Thread Joachim R.
Public bug reported:

This bug is reported against cheese as this is the procedure stated by
http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Hardware/Webcam/Builtin but cheese is not the
cause.
The cause is Ubuntu doesn't detect Asus Eeepc 1215P internal webcam (screen
top) since 12.04. It was working fine before (If I remember the first Ubuntu
version on my Eeepc was 10.10 and it was OK).

Cheese is reporting no device found.

Gstreamer-properties isn't able to see video input ; when launching
gstreamer-properties, the sysout shows :
