seems to be due to the decision to not support multiple init systems in
Ubuntu. (I don't know if this has changed in the mean time)

Great! If you add it via "also affects distribution/package" the bug

2020-07-03 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
I took a new look at this. When installing python-scitools on Ubuntu

specifically mentioned in the changelog for

like this fixed it somehow. Thus marking it as Fixed now.

2020-06-28 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud

Sorry, didn't see this question until now. `upgrade-software-version` is
the tag for bugs requesting newer versions
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Tags), and the original tag here said
`update-..`. So I simply replaced it with the offical tag in the hope
that it would show up in the lists where someone would notice it :)

[Bug 1885359] [NEW] FTBFS: circular dependency golang-github-viant-{assertly, toolbox}

2020-06-27 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

golang-github-viant-assertly [1] currently fails to build because
golang-github-viant-toolbox-dev is missing [2].

This package is built by golang-github-viant-toolbox [3]. However, it
fails to build because golang-github-viant-assertly-dev - from the first
package - is missing [4].

Bonus round: further up the chain, a third package [5] is waiting for
toolbox-dev, while itself being the dependency of a fourth [5]. These two will
likely automatically build once the circular dependency is resolved, but I've
included them for completeness.

[Bug 1085355] Re: Typo in lxsession-edit package description

2020-06-14 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Looking even more into this, the existing delta seemed small enough to
deal with merging in the latest changes from Debian. So that's what I've
tried. Should bring the package a bit more up to date in addition to
fixing the typo.

I'm not quite sure how the workflow works these days, but I have
attached two debdiffs (as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Merging#Build.2C_check_and_report).
One for the delta between the Debian package and the new Ubuntu package,
and one with the delta between the old Ubuntu package and the new one.

I've just verified with maybe 0.4.0-6 on Ubuntu Groovy, and that version
does indeed have an explicit dependency on python3-pkg-resources as
mentioned in the Debian bug report. I'm therefore marking this fixed.

If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please
take a look at the SRU Procedure [1]. I can try to help out by providing
patches (though there is also a switch from the python- to python3-
version of the package in the mix)

2020-06-07 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

Error messages like this usually indicates that the file in question
(/usr/share/mime/packages/qlcplus.xml) is present in two packages, so
one is preventing the other from being installed. When comparing
https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/amd64/qlcplus/filelist and
https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/all/qlcplus-data/filelist that doesn't
seem to be the case though...

I also tried to install `qlcplus` on my 20.04 system, but didn't get the
error message. Note that I installed 4.12.2-2build1, which is slightly
newer than 4.12.2. I was a bit puzzled why you had an older version
number, untill I saw you seem to have installed from the Ubuntu 20.04
LTS Beta release. Could you please run `sudo apt update` or similar and
apply any upgrades. It might have tried to fetch and install the older
version, though updating the system should resolve that.

If the problem persits, please attach the output of `apt policy
qlcplus*` (will tell us which versions are installed and available) as
well as any other error messages occuring.

[Bug 1882016] Re: Unable to uninstall Calibre

Ok, have you tried to remove the package through Ubuntu Software? Is it
still listed as installed there?

I am still curious about the output of `apt policy calibre*` and `snap
list | grep calibre`. If you have installed calibre as a snap, then apt
wouldn't know about it and thus wouldn't know how to uninstall it.

[Bug 1882234] Re: Gilaki language isn't exist

2020-06-06 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I think the first step would be to add Gilaki to the list of languages
listed on https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity and
then you can add translations which can be included. I am not familar
with the details on how to do this, but I have added Ubuntu Translation
project to help in this process.

How did you install calibre?

Could you please attach the output of `apt policy calibre*` and `snap

[Bug 1881468] [NEW] gnome-shell-xrdesktop/kwin-effect-xrdesktop FTBFS: universe package needs dependency from multiverse

2020-05-31 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

kwin-effect-xrdesktop currently fails to build 0.14.0-2 [1] since it is missing
two build dependencies [2]:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 sbuild-build-depends-kwin-effect-xrdesktop-dummy : Depends: libgxr-dev but it
is not installable
Depends: libxrdesktop-dev
(>= 0.14~) but it is not installable

(Same happens when attempting to build gnome-shell-xrdesktop [3], seems
to be the same build dependencies)

Both of these packages are available, however since they are in the
multiverse pocket [4][5], they are not found when attempting to build a
package in universe, such as kwin-effect-xrdesktop.

I don't see why these packages are in multiverse though, as both appear
to be in Debian main (and not marked with non-free or contrib like
multiverse packages usually are).

[Bug 1878206] Re: will not load firmware on 20.04

2020-05-18 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Ok, good :) Thanks for checking.

I must admit I am not sure what caused the lock in the first place,
though it may have been a check for updates running in the backgorund. I
believe this sometimes happens right after booting, so if it became ok
after waiting a while that might have been it. In any case, since the
issue seems to have been resolved, I've taken the liberty of closing
this issue.

If it should happen again, please leave a comment and we'll reopen it.
If the error message lists a process as in the first example " It is
held by process 4155 (apt-get)", please run `ps -ef | grep 4155`
(replace the number with the process id given). That way, we can take a
look at what is happening.

Thanks for the info, Kai :)

I suspected it might be something like that, but couldn't find it.

[Bug 1876788] Re: libboost-signals-dev not present in focal (64 bit)

2020-05-16 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Indeed, I saw this too. It appears that libbost-signals-dev is no longer
built by the 1.71.0.0ubuntu2 source package (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boost-
defaults/1.71.0.0ubuntu2). It is also absent from the Debian
experimental package (https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/boost-defaults).

I didn't find any mentions of the package in the change logs so it is
hard to tell if it was intentional or not. It could perhaps be explained
by the jump from 1.67 to 1.71, but I am not familiar enough with
upstream to tell if the library was dropped or not...

[Bug 1878206] Re: will not load firmware on 20.04

2020-05-16 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

Based on the error message, this doesn't seem to be directly caused by
firmware-b43-installer. It looks like there's a different apt-get
process currently running, perhaps installing other packages in a
different terminal? Could you check if all other apt-get processes are
finished and if you still get the same error?

Normally it is only possible to run one apt-get process at the time,
though it should remove the lock once finished. If a lock is still "left
behind" that might be a bug in apt.

I took a quick look at this, and it looks like lxsession-edit is now

[Bug 1876450] Re: Dependency not installed when installing gambas3

Thanks for reporting.

I get the same error message when attempting to run gambas3
3.14.3-2ubuntu3.1 on Ubuntu 20.04 (or Groovy)

Looks like this might have been fixed in version of 3.14.3-3 the Debian

[Bug 1878709] Re: prometheus is unbuildable in Focal

2020-05-16 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
>it was copied over from Debian,

Yes, the sourcce was copied/synced from Debian, but to my knowledge all
binary packages are rebuilt on Ubuntu?

Anyways, I did some digging [1] and found the build log for amd64 [2].
When searching for any of the troublesome dependencies, I see that they
were installed from focal-proposed, for instance:

Get:105 http://ftpmaster.internal/ubuntu focal-proposed/universe amd64
golang-github-prometheus-client-golang-dev all 1.2.1-3 [100 kB]

So it looks like the newer versions were in -proposed, and prometheus
built successfully the first time round. It then looks like the newer
versions never migrated from -proposed to the -release pocket for
unknown reasons and they are currently in groovy-proposed. Prometheus
on the other hand, did end up in -release and without the dependencies
it now fails to build.

(I am not sure how prometheus migrated to -release before its build
dependencies were, I thought that was a requirement in order to avoid
issues like this...)

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I get the same error message when attempting to run `sudo apt build-dep

required dependencies are newer than what is available in the archive.
Makes me wonder how this was built in the first place...

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-05-14 Thread Joachim Wolff
As workaround for those with just one monitor (or many but the same
size), I tried what Kristo Ojasaar (kristoo) already suggested and I
found something even simpler. There is no needs for the 'Tweak'-tool:
For a 4k monitor, set it to 100% and go to Settings -> Universal Access
and activate 'large text'. Now the 'scaling' is more or less what 125%
under Ubuntu 19.10 used to be.

Seeing something so simple solving this, I wonder why the developers do
not a define a css style-sheet (or however the gui colors / font size
etc are defined) for the different scaling options and apply these as
soon e.g. '125%' scaling is activated.

[Bug 1878587] [NEW] pk-client-error-quarl could not get lock when selecting driver from synaptic

2020-05-14 Thread Joachim R.
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (Ubuntu 20.04, synaptic 0.84.6ubuntu5,
software-properties-gtk 0.98.9)
1. Open synaptic
2. click in "parameters" menu, then "repositories". This will open a "Software
and update" window
3. click on "additional drivers" tab
4. select a new driver (example : I have nvidia 435 installed, I select nvidia
440)
5. click apply

Expected behaviour : the selected driver is installed

Actual behaviour: you get an error window with message:
"pk-client-error-quark: E: could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-front-end.
It is held by process 9246 (synaptic)"

Workaround: launch "software update" directly without synaptic

I understand that synaptic must be closed in order to let another
software updating process operate. But this software update has been
initiated from synaptic and I cannot close synaptic when software update
is opened. It is opened like a modal window...

Ithink either this feature should be removed from synaptic or avtrick
must be found to have it releasing the lock as long as the "software
update" window it has triggered is opened; or maybe synaptic and
software-update-gtk could share the lock in this situation ? For now it
is impossible to install additional driver if you launched it from
synaptic.

[Bug 1876999] Re: No system-config-samba package in 20.04 ?

2020-05-06 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

Looks like this was removed since there was no newer versions and it
used older libraries. See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-
config-samba/+publishinghistory or bug 1740419 for more details.
