Public bug reported:

After installing/upgrading unity-greeter, gnome gets an ugly look.
Unity-greeter disables xsettings, to partially fix this, open terminal,
typing dconf-editor, going to org/gnome/settings-
daemon/plugins/xsettings and choosing active. Gnome ugly look
dissapears, but nautilus is still looking ugly.

ok, I've been trying to solve this, and finally got it solved. open a
terminal, put "sudo gedit /etc/chromium-browser/default" and then add a
line "LC_NUMERIC=POSIX" (without the inverted commas)
