[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
The problem lies in Linux' marketing. As power users, we can carry this effort and make linux #1. Simply go speak at schools, colleges, and libraries on the benefits of open source technologies (emphasize the free aspect as well as the lack of viruses.) I already do this at my local universities and have converted hundreds of MS users to linux. I even have turned some of the professors at these colleges into linux evangelicals. I find that kids in college are never taught that there are alternatives to Apple and Windows. When I tell them that I went through college and run my business with FREE and VIRUS FREE software their jaws fall on the floor. By the end of the class they are downloading and installing ubuntu on their laptops while I am speaking. I even had one gentleman who converted his entire music studio to linux as the overhead of keeping Apples was killing him. He just didn't know any other way. Bottom line, it will take effort from everyone of us to fix this bug. Get out in your community and tell them about the benefits of open source. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 Title: Microsoft has a majority market share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/clubdistro/+bug/1/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1072710] Re: 12.04 erases identical hd and creates raid without user permission
Unfortunately, '/var/log/dist-upgrade' is empty. Is there any other place a useful log file might be stored? Or perhaps the name of the log files needed so I can search for them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072710 Title: 12.04 erases identical hd and creates raid without user permission To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1072710/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1072710] [NEW] 12.04 erases identical hd and creates raid without user permission
Public bug reported: My secondary and tertiary hard disks are identical (500GB Western Digital AT3500320AS). Upon upgrade from 11.10, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS reformatted my secondary hard disk and set it up in a Raid 1 configuration with my tertiary hard disks. It should be noted that my tertiary hard disk has a few bad sectors, but on a whole, still functions and stores data just fine. I expected my system to upgrade to 12.04 LTS without modifying my hard drive configuration and erasing all my data. Instead, Ubuntu 12.04 modified my hard disk configuration and erased my secondary hard drive. Not sure what other info you will need regarding this bug. Just ping me and I'll gladly provide it. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: Screenshots of disk utility https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072710/+attachment/3417494/+files/Screenshot%20from%202012-10-29%2009%3A03%3A16.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072710 Title: 12.04 erases identical hd and creates raid without user permission To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1072710/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 461494] Re: A print job sent to the PDF printer by Adobe Reader stucks at the Processing state
I'm having the same problem. I have a Brother HL-4040CN color laser. I can print only very simple PDFs; anything with multiple photos and any level of complex formatting, even a page with 4 or 5 photos on it, and the job just sits in Processing forever. I tried printing a single page PDF last night, and I left it until morning, 8 hours later, it hadn't moved. It seems to send something to the printer as the Data light is flashing, and the printer won't take jobs from any other machine, but it never prints. From other apps, I can print just fine, including pages with complex vector graphics with hundreds of lines and points. I have tried from both the default Ubuntu document viewer and in desperation I installed Adobe Reader, same results with both. Finally I just installed print drivers and Adobe Reader in a copy of Windows XP running under VirtualBox and the same PDF prints in about 10 seconds. I don't like this solution though; if I have to keep Windows around, I might as well be running Windows. -- A print job sent to the PDF printer by Adobe Reader stucks at the Processing state https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461494 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
