[Bug 222246] [NEW] lost screen real estate with ubuntu 8.04 upgrade

2008-04-25 Thread johnmuir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Thunderbird version: 2.0.0.12

After an upgrade Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 the mail/calender/tasks line of
icons are now taking up a complete vertical panel. They used to share a
vertical panel with 'All Folders' overview of my mail accounts. I've
lost a quarter of my screen real estate to this bug, so please help!

Tanks for a great product!

[Bug 222246] Re: lost screen real estate with ubuntu 8.04 upgrade

2008-04-27 Thread johnmuir
Solved!

It was due to the Lightning extension. I had the version 0.7 of
Lightning installed and the Ubuntu installation updated Thunderbird but
not the Lightning extension. Funnily Thunderbird did not complain about
the incompatible Lightning extension. Anyway after uninstalling
Lightning and installing the current 0.8 version the problem was
resolved.

I can also confirm this bug in Firefox 3.0.3 and 3.0.4. It seems to be
getting worse as at first it only affected one link but now almost all
are affected.

[Bug 87078] Re: RTL-8029: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out

2008-10-29 Thread johnmuir
As of today, with all updates, this is still a problem.

I have kept the output of lshw and the syslog for the period (see
attachments). It looks to me like my two ethernet cards eth0/1 get
swapped around from the irq point of view. Maybe this will help someone
get a better understanding of the problem.

[Bug 194346] Re: [hardy]Firefox 3 live bookmarks claim not to load when they have

2008-11-23 Thread johnmuir
It is also not possible to delete one of these wayward bookmarks. If I
try to delete one of them, simply nothing happens.

Does anyone feel responsible for trying to correct such errors? Is there
an 'owner' for live bookmarks? I'd be happy to try to help if anyone
feels that keeping Firefox on top is worthwhile. If not, it would help
if someone was honest and said 'tough luck, you'll just have to put up
with such second rate software'. At least I'd know where I am.

[Bug 194346] Re: [hardy]Firefox 3 live bookmarks claim not to load when they have

2008-11-23 Thread johnmuir
[Solved] Just after my bad-tempered rant above I stumbled across a way
to recover from this problem...

Delete all the contents of the cache folder in the folder and
also delete all the places.* files - you lose your history but the live
bookmarks work again ;-))

I can also delete them... oh, happy day...
