[Bug 1341944] Re: 32-Bit UEFI bootloader support needed

2015-08-18 Thread jokker
Hello,

Just bought an Acer Switch 10, same issue... No way to boot anything. Anyone
successful so far?
Tried to disable everything related to booting in the BIOS, downgraded BIOS,
used rufus + jessie ISO...
Bought an OTG adaptor to have usb stick directly on the tablet micro usb
port... NOTHING WORKED.
The whole purpose of buying this machine was to actually get Kali 2.0 on it...
OUCH.
Should I be patient and wait for distros to get compatible one day, or just
return the device?

Hi,

When I ssh a solaris 8 server from Ubuntu 10.04 I get:

Bad packet length 1783261441.

It works from any other ssh client I tried on Debian. Seems to be a bug
from ubuntu side, ssh client or even ssl.

ssh -vv gives me:

[Bug 298597] Re: 2 NICS with static IPs = NO DNS

2009-04-13 Thread jokker
Oh wow ! I though this post was put in the forgotten bugs' zone... I am glad
to see some activity on this. I actually run eth0 normally and eth1 is (was)
reserved for virtual machines (4 of them) on this server. So far I had to
enable/disable eth0/eth1 when I needed to run either machine. Not really
practical as you can see. I will see about the promiscuous mode in the next 72
hours because right now : BEDTIME! ;-)
Keep you posted and thanks a lot for your help, at last :-) You must be busy
with network-manager's bugs or something...

[Bug 259214] Re: wired connection settings are lost after reboot

2008-11-27 Thread jokker
Has anyone successfully disabled network manager and set up
/etc/network/interfaces manually as a temporary fix?

I think we are all using interfaces for quite a long time now ;-)

I tried that but it doesn't work. I have two NICs and with both enabled
in interfaces I do not get DNS resolution. If only ONE (either) is
enabled it works, go figure...

[Bug 298597] [NEW] 2 NICS with static IPs = NO DNS

2008-11-15 Thread jokker
Public bug reported:

On intrepid Ubuntu 8.10 final official version, no backport nor proposed
updates sources activated, with either NIC configured alone with a
static IP, everything is OK. If both NIC with, of course, different IP,
are configured and operating together, NO ACCESS to internet, but all
LAN traffic works just fine. At first the problem occurred after an
upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10, then I wiped everything besides the /home
partition and reinstall very cleanly a brand new system, the first thing
was to install all updates on Intrepid, with only eth0 setup in DHCP.
Then after all updates were installed I setup eth0 and eth1 statically,
SAME ISSUE, NO DNS ... I uninstalled network manager and edited
interfaces and resolv.conf, no more luck. This is clearly a bug on
Intrepid. This is the interfaces file (works fine with eth0 commented)
if I uncomment eth1 = no DNS or access to internet:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static

[Bug 297472] [NEW] There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon

2008-11-12 Thread jokker
Public bug reported:

I run hardy heron x86_64. Never had a problem. Today after 3 updates
came in, I turned off the machine and later at night started it and
after I enter my login info I have a hang time of about 5 mn, and then I
have this message:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.
The last error message was:
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did
not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply
timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

I did not change any settings in appearance. Same problem on my wife's session
(different theme, icons, wallpaper...)
I am convinced the three updates today produced this bug.
Thanks for your help.

I'm now sure this bug comes for the new network-manager that comes with Ubuntu
Intrepid 8.10
But I can't find a way to fix it.

[Bug 292824] Re: No static IP on Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10

2008-11-03 Thread jokker
If I go back to DHCP my IP address will be *.51 or *.52 I set only 2 IPs for
dhcp and they are for my laptops, and no I do not want to change all my
router's settings, because then I will have to change a lot more things on all
my stations (and even more than that). This machine must be *.22 It's a long
story... I think I will go back to hardy because this is really a mess and I
have a backup, but I still want to give it a try, Intrepid looks good. Thank
for your help.
Is there anybody working on this bug already? How can I know?

[Bug 256054] Re: [intrepid] new 0.7 branch ignores /etc/network/interfaces

2008-11-02 Thread jokker
No I use a desktop edition as a server, because I need it as a station too. It
worked like this for years, that an old dual athlon MP server. So no, I do not
use server edition, I have the GUI, it is just on 24/7 on a ups...
Here is my problem:
I installed cleanly a brand new intrepid by keeping my /home from hardy. First
boot I noticed that it was dhcp, so I started to change ip settings (using
system - preferences - network config.) but after every boot it went back to
dhcp. Then I foud out that /etc/network/interfaces was empty (only loopback
setup) so I edit it... after restarting the service, no internet ! after reboot
no internet ! I try to remove NetworkManager from rc.d, no luck, so I restore
defaults in rc.d, I commented all I added in interfaces, and I'm back to dhcp.
So no progress at all. So no this bug is not fixed, at least not for me and of
it is not for me it is not for a lot of people.

2008-11-02 Thread jokker
I thank you for your help but that was a very very bad idea, let me explain...
After sudo aptitude remove network-manager*, I uncommented all about eth0 and
eth1 in my very good interfaces file then rebooted... NO internet, no dns, but
eth0 and eth1 worked and had correct static IPs, so no change... I tried to
reinstall network-manager but without DNS I had to download it for another
machine, a laptop with Sabayon Linux (very good distro byt the way) and then
reinstall it through scp to go back to zero, so you can scratch that solution,
it does not do any good.

2008-11-02 Thread jokker
EDIT=
If you have wrong IP setting, it seems like you need to enter them manually in
system - preferences - network connection... then in the nm-applet on the top
bar right click on it and uncheck enable connection then recheck it: IT WORKS
as long as you do not restart your machine. For some reason it works better
than # /etc/init.d/networking restart or even # ifup ethx
That's my solution for now, I hope to get a fix very soon.

- I tried to remove NetworkManager for rc.d but it did not change
+ I tried to remove NetworkManager from rc.d but it did not change
anything, so I restore NetworkManager defaults in rc.d

So at this point I had the correct IP settings, but no DNS working...
Seemed like this time /etc/network/interfaces was no longer ignored but
  /etc/resolv.conf now is !

So right now I'm back to DHCP, I commented all about eth0 and eth1 in
/etc/network/interfaces and restarted... Everything works beside the
fact that I have wrong IP addresses for both NICs.

I feel like I'm going crazy, I spent the last 72 hours practically day
and night on this, I NEED THIS MACHINE TO WORK since I use it as a
server (ssh, apache, ftp, VPN, samba, cups, NFS) and guess what...
Everything is setup with IP, not hostnames... That means all the servers
are down. So far this is the worst experience I had with Ubuntu, the
  number one distro people say...

  Thanks for your help

You mention that it worked fine until a few days ago, were there any
configuration options that you enabled about that long ago? Any changes
 made at all?

I run Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 X86. If by CompizConfig you mean the
compizconfig-settings-manager package, yes it is installed and works
fine. I did not change any setting lately but some libdeco package have
been updated in the last days, maybe it is related... But no changes
from myself were made.

[Bug 176279] Gnome upper and lower bars feeze after login to session

2007-12-13 Thread jokker
Public bug reported:

After I log in to my session (3D effects activated) the two bars (up
down) appear grayed with nothing written in them for a good 5 minutes
long, until suddenly everything comes back to normal. I would love to
analyze the log file related to these bars (I don't know how you call
them, what program is it ? what process ?) but I don't know which one it
is. It worked fine until a few days ago. One my wife's session
everything is fine but she does not have compiz running on hers. Thanks
for your help.
