[Bug 293574] Re: Sound is choppy

[Bug 293574] Re: Sound is choppy
I just re-compiled my kernel without any OSS in it. Even took out the OSS mixer in alsa. Problem is still there. This problem has nothing to do with an oss conflict with alsa. Now I am going to try downgrading alsa. -- Sound is choppy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293574 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 293574] [NEW] Sound is choppy
Public bug reported: Ubuntu release. Description:Ubuntu 8.10 Release:8.10 I expected: Reasonable audio sound. What happened: ALL audio is choppy with some sort of echo. I have a Sound Blaster Live! Emu10k1 and an onboard sound that came with my asus a8ne mobo. I am running Intrepid AMD64 with Athlon 3700. I have already disabled my onboard in my BIOS because it is broken. I have the SB Live to replace it. After a fresh install I have terrible audio. Almost as if everything has an echo and even after I stop playing an audio file it keeps playing. Words to describe it are jagged and choppy. So without waste of time I open up Volume Applet 2.24.1 by right clicking on that little speaker. Under device: 1: SB Live 5.1 (alsa mixer) 2: SigmaTel STAC9708,11 (OSS Mixer) 3: Playback: ALSA PCM on front:0 (ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback) via DMA (Pulse Audio Mixer) 4: Capture: Monitor Source of ALSA PCM on front:0 (ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback) via DMA (Pulse Audio Mixer) 5: Capture: ALSA PCM on front:0 (ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback) via DMA (PulseAudio Mixer) After I muted everything and turned each on in combination I have found that my volume is controlled by three sliders. 1st: Master in device 1 which the same as Master in device 3. Under playback. 2nd: PCM in device one. Under Playback. 3rd: Volume in device 2. Under Recording. It's the third that worries me! Why is my volume controlled by something in oss, under another name in the recording tab! This may have something to do with my choppy sound. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Ubuntu release. [Bug 278786] Re: [Hardy, Intrepid] Piercing squeal from SbLive value at boot and when turning up AC97 volume knob
To Shaun: Just a same here. Only I also have choppy unbearable sound. Did you also have choppy sound? If so how did you fix? Anyway, you'll find that the AC97 problem is linked to the AC97 capture. If you show that device and then mute it (under the recording tab) the ac97 slider will have no spine chilling squeal. As for startup noise, it must have something to do with starting alsa and enabling AC97 capture. -- [Hardy, Intrepid] Piercing squeal from SbLive value at boot and when turning up AC97 volume knob https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278786 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
