[Bug 985430] Re: Can't unshade windows
HiI just upgraded from lucid LTS to Trusty LTS because I had Lucid operating practically everything I use flawlessly - but It became obsolete and needed upgrade. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS - the first linux release that window shading is fowled. I'd rather dump unity than sacrifice window shading. linux window shading is one of my most frequently used features - old habits die hard - especially when the habit is productive. So here it is October 2015, and still hand-sitting on this issue? updates have not fixed it for me so far. Are we at ubuntu 14.04-4 yet? maybe then some headway on this? So few posts here since the op - is every one satisfied with non-unity sessions to solve this? learning to live with unity, or maybe not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985430 Title: Can't unshade windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/985430/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 590931] [NEW] package nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-current kernel module failed to build
Public bug reported: Computer ModelMS-1633X (version MS-1633) Manufacturer Micro-Star International Form FactorLaptop - amd64 dual-core Turion X2 Mobil TL-56, with Nvidia chip sets OS Ubuntu - Lucid Lynx/Studio 10.04 - Upgraded from Ubuntu Hardy/Studio 8.04 The Ubuntu 10.04 Studio installed software offers only the 2.6.31-10-rt kernel. I have the Ubuntu 10.04 2.6.32-22-generic, and 2.6.32-22-preempt kernels installed that nvidia-current 195.36.15-0Ubuntu3 works well with. The nvidia-current driver didn't work if I tried to boot to the 2.6.31-10-rt kernel, therefore I upgraded it through bojo42's PPA for RT Kernels ( https://launchpad.net/~bojo42/+archive/rt ). After synaptic processing completed, Notice area showed that nvidia-current failed to install. I know that I compiled my nvidia-current to the standard 2.6.32-22-generic, and 2.6.32-22-preempt kernels, and that the 2.6.33-rt I installed is a newer non-matching number kernel. But I have never had problems with compiling nvidia proprietary drivers for this machine under Ubuntu Hardy, and so expected that the Lucid - Nvidia Hardware Drivers would work in a similar manner. I'm at a loss for solutions at this point - after googling nvidia- current - the ubuntu forums - reading bug reports -etc. not much matching my current situation - probably because Ubuntu 10.04 is so new ? ( Excerpt from bojo42's PPA ) Ubuntu 10.04 uses a 2.6.32 based kernel with graphic drivers from 2.6.33, but for 2.6.32 there are no rt patches and so Ubuntu does only ship an old 2.6.31 based realtime kernel. This PPA provides a 2.6.33 based realtime kernel so you can have for example the full graphic experience of Ubuntu 10.04 and even some new features of 2.6.33. The kernel itself is a plain vanilla 2.6.33.X with the latest rt patchset and configuration is based on the matching 2.6.33.X build from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline plus some changes for realtime usage. So if you run into any problems check if got them with the mainline kernel as well, if that isn't the case you know that it's specific to the realtime patches and configuration. In case i miss an update of the rt patchset (http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/) just ping me: https://launchpad.net/~bojo42/+contactuser BTW if you use a rt kernel on a desktop machine, you will notice that PulseAudio randomly crash at audio playback. See Bug #367671 for this. # I'm not sure how to proceed with a solution here - Is Ubuntu - Debian, or Nvidia causing the driver not to compile for multiple kernel versions ? In any case, it sure is not very user-friendly. [Bug 63477] Re: Synfigstudio crash by startup
I'm posting now on Feburary 11, 2009 about the same 'synfigstudio does not start' bug as I see as far back as april 2008. and still not fixed ? - why does the library that gets offered as update not match the binary it belongs to? My solution would be to test the new library against the original binary, and if it fails offer the update with both, the new library, and functioning binary package. Ubuntu Hardy LTS with ubuntustudio on amd64 laptop here. I'm getting synfigstudio error message synfigstudio: Symbol `_ZTVN6synfig17LinkableValueNodeE' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking synfig(27521) [01:33:11 AM] error: Size of Canvas mismatch (app:1008, lib:1080) synfig(27521) [01:33:11 AM] error: Size of Layer mismatch (app:416, lib:464) FATAL: Synfig Version Mismatch I can't uninstall the synfigstudio package either, because there's a dependancy to ubuntu studio-graphics, and I want to keep that. Anyway the bug still persists - until ubuntu sends out a new synfigstudio binary that matches the updated libsynfig backported version. I could downgrade to the original, Hardy libsynfig and synfigstudio works, but then I have to disable backports in my sources list or lock the version that may have security issues or whatever buggy condition. So I guess we'll have to wait and see if this finally gets re-solved. [Bug 175227] Re: 2.6.22-14-rt halts during boot on some computers, without the nosmp noapic nolapic kernel options
Micro Star International - AMD-64 Turion - TL-56 - MCP-51 High Definition Audio - pci vendor - nVidia Corporation - pci product - G70 [ GeForce Go 7600 Ubuntu Studio installed over standard Ubuntu Gutsy Desktop. Running kernels - 2.6.22-14-generic - and - 2.6.22-14-rt Generic kernel always boots flawlessly - rt kernel, always stalls - waiting for any key presses. If I press the (Blue-Power-switch)-(acts as resume) , the boot goes through to just before the Nvidia splash screen, and then stalles again until I press enter 2, or 3 times - then proceeds to gdm login. I tried noacpci in the grub boot line - that works and allows boot without any stalls, problem is that the realtime module does not load without acpic activated. We want both, acpic and realtime functions running as should be standard. (Ubuntu Studio) We don't want to disable something in order to accommodate some buggy code in the rt-kernel when the buggy lines could easily be modified/corrected, and an update offered to resolve this matter. I'm surprised that we have to endure this inconvenience throughout the entire 7.04 release, and with no indication that some solution is being worked, or that there is any acknowledgment at all for this system flaw, situation. Any way, I'm acknowledging that I, and many others are still enduring this inconvenient system flaw. What Next ? - May be it will get some attention, and be fixed !! This looks like, and is to me, a high priority security issue that - needs to be fixed - FAST - So what's the hold up in offering a solution from ubuntu security team ?? I could comment out the enteries in fstab - like hitting it with a Sledge - Hammer ? why not have a simple option for the mount utility - hmmm lets see - how about somthing like ( NOAUTO or noauto ) ?? that should work, i like noauto better it's quieter : - ) Only option a the moment is ( Sledge-Hammer ) approach to shut it up. This is quite annoying because we would like to trust that critical operating system components can be depended on between version releases. I hope that this can be fixed Soon ! and not put to a subordinate bug shelf. !! jwmislan -- xorg 7 dissables capture - ATI Radeon 7500 RV200 QW - WARNING ! [Bug 6367] Re: udev enumeration should use /sys/bus not /sys/devices
to boot from by ID, rather than the transient location: 1. Boot a desktop/LiveCD. 2. Run sudo /sbin/dumpe2fs /dev/sdX | grep UUID 3. tell 'grub' or 'lilo' to boot with that ID: How can I obtain /dev/sdX ID. for reiserfs Thanks JWM -- udev enumeration should use /sys/bus not /sys/devices https://launchpad.net/bugs/6367 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 44101] Re: [Dapper] gnome-sound-properties always defaults to first card
I am also experiencing the same problem with gnome-sound-properties (not retaining) my default soundcard preference. The same existed in breezy which never got resolved by a bugfix. I had to set snd-emu10k1 to index=0 in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base to get it to be default (card 0) , and snd-cmipci to index=1 for second soundcard. This dosn't seem to work anymore in Dapper though. There should be a dependable way to force these preferences - like setting soundcard-name=index=0 in ./asoundrc or /etc/asound.conf This is a serious issue to me not a trivial one. I have to turn off the cmipci sound on the soyo MB in bios to fix it now , and I Need that second sound card for my audio recording work. -- [Dapper] gnome-sound-properties always defaults to first card https://launchpad.net/bugs/44101 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
