[Bug 566379] Re: 8086:3582 [i855] X doesn't start with kernel 2.6.32-21 unless passing i915.modeset=1
This bug was reported nearly 3.5 years ago. 10.04 has reached EOL. It was the only version of Ubuntu I had the problem with. I haven't used Ubuntu since 11.10 so I do not know what the newer versions are like with regards to this bug (if it has come back or not). Just as a side note, after leaving Ubuntu for Linux Mint LMDE and then moving to Debian Stable (Lenny, Squeeze and now Wheezy along with running Testing and Sid) I used Squeeze for its entire Stable life and used it while it was testing as well and it never had this problem at all. It seems to me that this was a bug in Ubuntu (and derivatives) and not in Debian so unless there is a very good reason for Ubuntu to still be using 2.6.32 I won't be testing this after such a time frame has passed by. It seems a pity that it takes 3.5 years to enquire if it has been fixed (especially when posts above from 3.5 years ago show what needed to be done). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566379 Title: 8086:3582 [i855] X doesn't start with kernel 2.6.32-21 unless passing i915.modeset=1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/puppy/+bug/566379/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 614199] Re: No mouse after kernel upgrade
Same for me. Acer Extensa 2300. fine with Lucid and Karmic kernels but no mouse pointer visible with kernel 2.6.35-14 in normal mode. Mouse pointer works in Recovery mode though. My Graphics is i855 so I needed to set nomodeset=1 to get normal mode to show at all even without a mouse pointer. -- No mouse after kernel upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/614199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 613796] Re: ndiswrapper can scan for SSIDs but cannot connect on any kernel newer than 2.6.34-5.14
This is my laptop: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/Old/AcerExtensa2300 and the relevant Wireless card is the Acer version of the IPN2220 Wireless LAN Card. I tried various ndiswrappers today but no change, unfortunately because I was hoping it would be simple like the old Gutsy to Feisty trick I did years ago. I do think the comment above in #1 and I quote "as ndiswrapper should only be a temporary solution and not used in long-term situations (i.e. users should buy compatible hardware)." is unfortunate. Not everyone can afford to just go and buy a brand new, or even second hand, compatible laptop. Personally, mine was a gift and it has been through every version of Ubuntu since Feisty and if ndiswrapper is no longer supported or this issue fixed it will end up staying with Lucid and I can no longer do any testing as this is my main machine. I can run all the usual tests for outputs but I wouldn't be able to post them up because I can't connect to post them up. -- ndiswrapper can scan for SSIDs but cannot connect on any kernel newer than 2.6.34-5.14 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 613796] Re: ndiswrapper can scan for SSIDs but cannot connect on any kernel newer than 2.6.34-5.14
This issue affects me as well. I updated from Karmic to Lucid and then Maverick through Update Manager. Karmic was an absolutely clean install which was updated straight to Lucid and likewise Lucid straight to Maverick. Both the Karmic and Lucid kernels are still in my system and both work perfectly. I had a an issue back with Gutsy that I reverted back to the Feisty ndiswrapper and that fixed my problem back then. I am wondering if I revert back to the Lucid ndiswrapper will that possibly fix this issue for me. I will try that tomorrow morning and I will post the results for this that may be interested. -- ndiswrapper can scan for SSIDs but cannot connect on any kernel newer than 2.6.34-5.14 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 566379] Re: Cannot boot past Plymouth with kernel 2.6.32-21 in normal mode
Thanks for your prompt response Steve. With "splash" removed the only difference is the lack of a splash screen and it is replaced with the bootup sequence, the laptop still locks up just after where you would expect the splash screen to be. With "splash" + "i915.modeset=1" in place it boots perfectly and possibly slightly quicker than the 2.6.32-20 kernel. [Bug 566379] [NEW] Cannot boot past Plymouth with kernel 2.6.32-21 in normal mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: plymouth Plymouth is broken on my laptop after updating to the new kernel (2.6.32-21). I can get into Lucid with 2.6.32-20 with no problems and Plymouth works and looks like it should but with 2.6.32-21 Plymouth takes up the entire screen and then the laptop wont go any further. No hdd activity, nothing. Reboot and select recovery mode for 2.6.32-21, then FailsafeX, and then select low graphics mode and everything is fine, infact it looks like the graphics are normal. Have tried reinstalling the kernel with no difference, also tried reinstalling plymouth and still no difference. I am currently working in kernel 2.6.32-21 in Low Graphics mode. The only things I can see by going into Recovery > FailsafeX > Low Graphics is that Plymouth is bypassed thus allowing the laptop to start. If you need anymore information please ask. Michael. [Bug 543230] [NEW] ureadahead slows down my boot process
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ureadahead Ubuntu, 9.10. i386. Following the instructions supplied in this thread (All about ureadahead, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1434502) on Ubuntu forums I am submitting this bug report because ureadahead practically cripples my Acer Extensa 2300 very time it reprofiles. Sometimes I have to do a hard reboot to get the machine going again. I have, in the past, removed ureadahead in recovery mode to be able to get my laptop to boot and be usable. Please find attached my bootchart folder also containing ureadahead --dump.txt. n.b. The 1st bootchart started at 11.46.39and was completed at 11.47.20. The 2nd started at 12.09.00 and finished at 12.42.55 yet only shows 75 seconds of activity. The 3rd bootchart started at 13.11.44 and finished at 13.12.11. The 4th to 6th are just subsequent boots after having to reboot to Karmic because Lucid kept crashing.
