[Bug 1306890] [NEW] KDE-Session crashes when configuring positions of multiple monitors

2014-04-12 Thread kaefert
Public bug reported:

I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 Beta2 on my Asus Zenbook UX32VD, which has an
HDMI and an VGA output.

Most often when I try to configure the position of multiple monitors (by using
the gui-tool `kcmshell4 kcm_kscreen`) the KDE-Session crashes with this error
message:
"Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation."

It then takes a few reboots (as in more than 2 most of the times) to be
able to login into a KDE Session with my user again, because it crashes
again instantly when login in after such a crash. (Is there some config
file I can edit/remove to work around this problem?

I've run into this problem about 5 or 6 times already, and I've never
achieved a working setup where the multiple screens where interpreted as
having a different y-position (in height, like for example above each
other) but I also managed to get the same crash without y-position
variations, by simply changing the x-position order (conrcrete from
{default}[internal - hdmi - vga] to [vga - internal - hdmi] made KDE
crash, while changing to [internal - vga - hdmi] worked.

[Bug 658651] [NEW] new installer: cant finish install and no error shown (upper-case letter in username)

2010-10-11 Thread kaefert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

If you install the new ubuntu 10.10. and on the last page of the
installer you enter a username with an uppercase letter in it, it shows
you a green tick beneath it but it makes the next button gray and
unusable.. there is no way to know whats the problem, it just stands
there and you dont know why you cant go on.. i actually did the
installation 3 times before finding out what the problem was...

and the bug reporting of ubuntu is also stupid, back in the days you
could just say "report bug" on the website, now you have to generate
useless information that in no way is related to the bug for beeing able
to report one.. do you guys think that this is a motivating factor to
make me contribute??

and here another chart without using the nvidia driver in the xorg.conf -->
since the "modprobe" lines are the only ones colored differently, i guess they
are whats causing my problem.. im gonna try to uninstall the nvidia drivers

p.s.: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg doesnt do anything, how to get a
freshly generated xorg.conf for my hardware?

2010-10-08 Thread kaefert
Public bug reported:

I made a fresh install of ubuntu 10.10 RC on my multimedia pc, since my

-) after 10 seconds i get a terminal login prompt
-) after over 3 minutes (!!!) X finally loads and i get my desktop

Re: [Bug 577515] Re: Notification area icons overlap each other, in incorrect order

2010-06-22 Thread kaefert
Now that you remember me of that bug report, yes i've seen it again 2
or 3 times after the update Ross talked about. But with me its only
visibility issues, I don't have any problems rearanging the icons,
however, i don't do that very often. If that bug hits, I only run
"killall gnome-panel" to restart the panels and everything is alright
again.

[Bug 577515] Re: Notification area icons overlap each other, in incorrect order

2010-05-13 Thread kaefert
Thanks for the note. I found this other bug-report here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/574978 which
states that you can use "killall gnome-panel" to reload the panels which
makes them right again. Since I only saw this bug 2 or 3 times yet, this
is a sufficient workaround for me. I am currently updating and I will
post again if the bug shows again in the future.

[Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

2010-05-09 Thread kaefert
Okey, so I found what I was looking for, a way to revert the disabling
of all the 3d stuff (here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes)

These are the commands that do the trick:
echo options i915 modeset=1 | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
sudo update-initramfs -u

The stability issues don't seem to apply for my graphics chip:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

[Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

2010-05-09 Thread kaefert
I upgraded yesterday from 9.10 to 10.04 and now compiz doesn't work
anymore. I never had any problems with Graphics with the past Ubuntu
versions.

My Graphiccard is an:
~$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

My Kernel:
~$ uname -a
Linux Computername 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC
2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I think that my problem is what Rick Spencer said in comment #33 --> that they
disabled 3D and KMS for these chips.
Can somebody tell me how to enable it again? I had no stability issues yet.

[Bug 92345] Re: OpenOffice copy/pasting text containing link with special characters in the URL make it crash

I think I am seeing this issue. When I copy parts of a website from a
browser (I tried both chrome and firefox) into my OO version 3.1.1
Build:9420 OOO310m19 openoffice crashes. I did not yet fully find out
what must be within the copied selection to make openoffice writer
crash, but using the same selection it either always crashes or it
always doesn't

I agree. Do we know when this Bug emerges?
I created this array within another machine running Ubuntu 8.10, and
didn't have any problems like this then.

Just ran into the same problem on Ubuntu 9.04 x64 Server. I had to adapt
the workaround a little so that it worked for me

kaef...@blechserver:~$ uname -a
Linux Blechserver 2.6.28-11-server #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 02:45:36 UTC 2009

kaef...@blechserver:~$ sudo losetup /dev/loop2 /dev/sde1
kaef...@blechserver:~$ sudo losetup /dev/loop3 /dev/sdf1
kaef...@blechserver:~$ sudo mdadm --assemble /dev/md1 /dev/loop0 /dev/loop1
/dev/loop2 /dev/loop3
mdadm: /dev/md1 has been started with 4 drives.
