[Bug 1964121] [NEW] onboard can not type in some input boxes

2022-03-08 Thread kenn
Public bug reported:

I am on Ubuntu 20.04.4 Mate desktop. While typing in to some input boxes
such as Brisk Menu, onboard fails to grab that input box, as soon as I
click a letter on onboard, application gui of search box closes, so,
it's impossible to enter text into those applications. I noticed that
GNOME On-screen Keyboard works well with those applications. What is the
trick that "GNOME On-screen Keyboard" managed?

[Bug 1956589] [NEW] Darkstat exits on sleep

2022-01-06 Thread kenn
Public bug reported:

I am on Ubuntu 20.04 Mate desktop. I installed darkstat from official repo, its
version `darkstat 3.0.719`
I enabled it as a systemd service. It starts well on boot. But I noticed that
service exits when I put my laptop to sleep.
I tested if it exits on network down but it keeps running while computer is
online.
I also noticed another weird thing, it starts two process

pstree -a -s -l -p -u | grep darkstat

[Bug 1879090] Re: XDG_SEAT, XDG_VTNR, XDG_SESSION_ID not set

2020-05-18 Thread kenn
Thank you for responding. I wonder if it's intended by design.
I used to logout via
`dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.login1
/org/freedesktop/login1 'org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.TerminateSession'
string:$XDG_SESSION_ID`
or
`loginctl kill-session $XDG_SESSION_ID`
in my scripts.

I can live without them.
Did developers drop those environment variables?
Another question:
Is that issue related to `lightdm` or `systemd`?
Regards.

[Bug 1847618] Re: im-config ignores input methods other than xim in my current locale

2019-10-11 Thread kenn
Thank you for responding and quick coverage.
I added my current locale in the attachment.
Ironically `LC_MESSAGES=tr_TR.UTF-8 LANGUAGE= im-config -l` prints full list:
ibus uim scim xim

but not this `LC_MESSAGES=tr_TR.UTF-8 im-config -l`, this prints:
xim

I am happy to hear that you pinpoint the bug.

I thought it was a more complicated issue.
I can apply the workaround you suggested.
Cheers

[Bug 1847618] Re: language selector ignores input methods other than xim and none in my current locale

2019-10-11 Thread kenn
I don't know it's an architecture dependent issue because some users who
reported this bug which I also have:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/+bug/996791
mentioned architecture specific issues.

I am running Ubuntu 16.04.6 with multiarch support, I installed it as 32 bit OS
but switched to 64 bit OS by means of `dpkg --add-architecture amd64` and I
installed 64 bit kernel and libc stuff.
I have been running it for three years without problem.

I am also suffering from this bug may be related to the current bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/+bug/1350393/

I filed this bug some time ago :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1773517

If I run the following command `im-config -l` I only get:
xim
unless I run it like `LANGUAGE=en_US.utf8 im-config -l`
in which case I get :ibus uim scim xim

[Bug 1847618] [NEW] language selector ignores input methods other than xim and none in my current locale

2019-10-10 Thread kenn
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS. I can not reach other input methods such as
ibus, fcitx in my current locale which is LANGUAGE=tr_TR.UTF-8. It's not
listed in unity-control-center>Language Support>Keyboard Input Method
System. If I launch unity-control-center from terminal which is using
different locale "LANGUAGE=en_US.utf8 unity-control-center" then there
is no problem, all of the installed input methods are in the list.

I also tested "python3
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/LanguageSelector/ImConfig.py"
it also ignores input methods other than xim and none.
If I export "LANGUAGE=en_US.utf8" it lists all the other input methods.

I noticed the same bug in my system ( Ubuntu 14.04.5) while I was trying to set

flooding occurs whenever I launch pavucontrol, upload traffics reaches up to
200kb/s and it reduced the local network unusable. When I close it the network
attack diminishes.
I added `unload-module module-rtp-send` into `/etc/pulse/default.pa` to
workaround the bug.

[Bug 1775638] [NEW] right arrow of the horizontal scrollbar overlaps down arrow of the vertical scrollbar

I am on Ubuntu 16.04.4 platform. When I open gedit with a few pages long

[Bug 411688] Re: pulseaudio floods network with multicast packets

2016-10-12 Thread kenn
I am on Ubuntu 14.04.5 platform. I came across the same bug yesterday
while trying to set up pulseaudio server on Windows to send audio from
my Ubuntu laptop in local network and it rendered the home network
unusable. It costed me hours to locate the pest. Dos attack triggered by
pavucontrol, when I close it flooding diminishes.

I implemented the following workaround `pactl unload-module module-rtp-
send`

Nobody's patched it for 8 years, so we have to live with this bug and
no RTP server until my learning curve reaches a higher level to overcome
it.

[Bug 1603829] [NEW] Galera crashes with INVALID/OVERFLOW values for repl.proto_max and repl.max_ws_size

2016-07-17 Thread Kenn Takara
Public bug reported:

When setting the value for repl.proto_max and repl.max_ws_size, setting
the value to an invalid or overflow value will crash.

These two variables are parsed in the constructor for
galera::ReplicatorSMM, thus if the parse of the option fails an
exception is thrown, which then causes the system to abort (with no
helpful message).

Repro:
Set "wsrep_provider_options=repl.proto_max=1125899906842624"

Expect:
expect this not to crash, I would expect an error message and maybe setting the
value to the max/min value.

[Bug 1461221] Re: undecorated onboard doesn't comply with compiz effects

2015-06-03 Thread kenn
@marmuta thank you for the info. It appears to be gtk3 client side decoration
handicap. I can live with it.
I met another decoration problem, when I enable show window decoration and
set transparency to 80 while inactive, then when I move mouse pointer on window
decoration which has minimize, maximize and exit buttons, it loses focus and
sets transparency, I can not see onboard while moving it in the screen. It's
like window geometry is not covering onboard's window decoration.

[Bug 1215533] [NEW] grub theme background image misplacement

2013-08-22 Thread kenn
Public bug reported:

I tried a few grub2 themes that I found on github. I followed the guide and
updated grub. Theme shows up well at boot, but an ugly misplacement of framed
background image occupies center of the screen prior to exiting grub menu. It
resides a few seconds then disappear with grub menu. I removed all background
images that grub can search for. I even run sudo chmod -x
/etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme to see what happens, in which case it places a
black frame.
Isn't it possible to disable background image on grub screen?

[Bug 1178024] Re: Synaptic locks up during use

2013-08-17 Thread kenn
Today I met that damn bug. After hours of struggling I downgraded to
synaptic_0.75.12build1_i386.deb. I found the deb here:
http://ftp.acc.umu.se/ubuntu/ubuntu/pool/universe/s/synaptic/#
I don't know what I did wrong today. I installed some packages prior to
appearing bug. I removed all of them with no success. Installed packages were
libhunspell-dev libpython3-all-dev libpython3-dev libpython3.3-dev
python3-all python3-all-dev python3-dev python3-distutils-extra python3.3-dev
quilt gnome-icon-theme-extras python-iniparse tortoisehg-nautilus
python-qscintilla2 libqscintilla2-9 libsynce0 librapi2 nautilus-script-debug
libqscintilla2-translations synce-gnomevfs
Fortunately synaptic_0.75.12build1_i386.deb works ok.

2012-04-29 Thread kenn
Thank you very much for responding. No, you got me wrong, I turned on in System
Settings-Universal Access-Typing-Typing Assistant and ticked below setting
so it placed two icons tray on screen, one for onscreen keyboard and other for
other accessibility features. There is no problem on start up, it opens
onscreen keyboard automatically.

Problem arises when I log out, in previous version when I logged out onscreen
keyboard appeared in itself but in this version when I logged out in login
screen onscreen keyboard doesn't appear; luckily accessibility icon in tray is
there and when I untick and tick onscreen keyboard there in the tray, onscreen
keyboard appears.
You can reproduce the bug. You should go System Settings-Universal
Access-Typing-Typing Assistant and PUT A TICK BELOW SETTING it will place an
icon above tray on your screen, then log out, you won't see onscreen keyboard
in login screen, look up above accessibility icon an click it, you will see
onscreen keyboard with tick, untick and tick it again, you will see onscreen
keyboard.
Though I'm not sure if it's a bug or user mistake, I tried a couple of
settings but didn't manage it to fix.
Thank you again for other tips, I'm grateful.
Please feel free to ask me, I can write you as much as I can.
All the best.

Subject: [Bug 987343] Re: Onscreen keyboard doesn't appear when I logged out

Hi, thanks for your bug report.
Do I understand you right: Onboard doesn't immediately start when you log in?
It only shows up, when you untick and tick System Settings-Universal
 Access-Typing-Typing Assistent?
Did this happen only once, or does it repeat on every login?

The second issue is probably due to gksu in one of your launchers. IIRC,
gksu has been deprecated in ubuntu in favor of pkexec. I'd recommend
that you update the desktop file you are attempting to launch and
 replace gksu with pkexec.

The alternative is to turn off the black screen with
 $ gconftool-2 -s /apps/gksu/disable-grab -t bool true
This was a rather common thing to do back in the time, but I can't recommend
it, as this opens up a security hole.

I setup apport and after an evolution crash it gave the message The
problem cannot be reported: The program crashed on an assertion failure,
but the message could not be retrieved. Apport does not support
reporting these crashes. I tried double-clicking on the

[Bug 267371] Re: [gvfs] [smb] Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2009-02-27 Thread Kenn
Sorry , forgot to mention that my OOo version is:
OpenOffice.org-core 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1

Installing smbfs 3.0.28a and mounting via CLI, is working.
(i.e. im unable to corrupt files during my tests)

However i'll have a hard time relying on the GUI/gvfs for attaching to any
SMB-share anymore..
Sadly, 'cause this is something the windowsuser expect to just work.

But it's actually worse than if it were 'not an option', because it
seemes to work, - however it's corrupting your files.

This is - in my mind - sad, as it will prevent Ubunty from replacing
windows on the desktops ( in the near future)

[Bug 267371] Re: [gvfs] [smb] Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2009-02-26 Thread Kenn
I'm running HH 64bit ws _and_ HH 8.04.2 64bit as samba server.

I _am_ experiencing the problem.

As much as the problem is reckognized , all i can see is that i'll have
to use a kernel not for 8.04

This isn't the sort of thing You'd expect when upgrading from Fedora WS and
CentOS server to Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS on both WS and server.
Actually i expected that the LTS-version was matured enough to running *at
least* as smooth as F8 + SME7.4(CentOS).

Actually it worries me to see that fixes is revolving around Jaunty -
not the Long Term Support 8.04..

I'm sure i must have mistaken stability for flawless in the Long Term
Support concept..

[Bug 320418] [NEW] Raid10,o2 only reads from a single disk

2009-01-23 Thread Kenn
Public bug reported:

installed 8.04 64bit server from CD.
installed sysstat package.
mdadm --create /dev/md3 --level=10 --raid-devices=2 --chunk=512 --layout=o2
/dev/sdh1 /dev/sdd1

Det ser ud til at der kun læses fra een (1) disk i et RAID10,o2 array med 2
diske.
Eg:
 /dev/md3 = Raid10,o2 on 2 disks sdd1 and sdh1:

dd if=16GigaByte-FileOnRaidArray of=/dev/null
33554432+0 records in
33554432+0 records out
17179869184 bytes (17 GB) copied, 353,121 s, 48,7 MB/s

iostat during dd :
avg-cpu: %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle
   0,670,00 10,07 39,870,00 49,40

Device:tpsMB_read/sMB_wrtn/sMB_readMB_wrtn
sdd 0,00 0,00 0,00 0 0
sdi 145,5348,06 0,00720 0
md3 11944,5348,04 0,00720 0

At no time is there read from /dev/sdd.
Repeating dd if=16GigaByteFileOnRaidArray of=/dev/null
Might result in iostat reporting:

avg-cpu: %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle
   0,470,009,27 40,870,00 49,40

Device:tpsMB_read/sMB_wrtn/sMB_readMB_wrtn
sdd 120,6739,16 0,00587 0
sdi 0,00 0,00 0,00 0 0
md39751,6739,21 0,00588 0

At no time is there read from /dev/sdi.

--- 2nd. test
Booting on intrepid 64bit live-cd (desktop)
mdadm --assemble --scan /dev/md3
apt-get sysstat
dd if=16GigaByte-FileOnRaidArray of=/dev/null

And iostat reports that there is read from both disks.
And throughput seemed higher.

--- 3rd. test
Booting on Hardy 8.02-2 64bit live-cd (desktop)
mdadm --assemble --scan /dev/md3
apt-get sysstat
dd if=16GigaByte-FileOnRaidArray of=/dev/null

And iostat reports that there is only read from ONE disk.

Forcing sysstat to ver.8.1.2-2 from intrepid.
rerunning test
iostat _still_ reports that there is only read from ONE disk.

- Should be easily reproduceable.
