[Bug 1895749] [NEW] Greek special character not working Kubuntu 20.04 LTS
Public bug reported: After a clean Installation of Kubuntu 20.04 LTS (previous version 19.04 with limited support) I am facing the problem described below In all Kubuntu applications (where I have to type In Greek language) like Kate, LibreOffice etc. Only exceptions are the web browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. There everything works fine. Environment languages are First the US English and second the Greek Simple. The problem Is that I cannot type the most important Greek special character (accent) : tonos (') e.g. I cannot type the word καλός but instead I come up with the word καλ'ος. We type the special character need to be shown above the letters by pressing first the :; key next to L and then the specific letter we want to have the special character combined. The result Is that I cannot practically use edit or create a descent document or note etc. In Greek language. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1751252 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751252 I saw the same bug during installation of Xubuntu 18.04 LTS on a 32-bit Acer Aspire Revo (Intel Atom cpu, NVidia MCP79 chipset). It looks like the nvidia driver has something to do with it. I tried twice to install with the proprietary drivers (including nvidia) enabled and I saw the bug. The third time I installed without proprietary drivers and the installation worked fine. After installation I enabled the proprietary nvidia driver, no problems at all. [Bug 1819968] Re: Colour banding in Lenovo G50-80 laptop display (i915)
Thank you for your quick response! This regression / bug was found out almost 2 YEARS ago: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=225215 and a patch was sent to upstream (see post #2), but apparently it was never pulled. Regarding hex vs dec, the file in master they seem to be mixing both: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c The product id number for a specific panel is found in Xorg.log: fgrep EDID /var/log/Xorg.0.log [ 751.496] (II) modeset(0): EDID vendor "SDC", prod id 18514 Anyway, I am hoping that Ubuntu, which has the biggest base of desktop Linux users (and in particular of people who may have bought laptops without pre-installed Windows, like Lenovo G50-80 and G50-70), would choose to fix this regression for Ubuntu users. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1819968 Title: Colour banding in Lenovo G50-80 laptop display (i915) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1819968/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1819968] Re: Colour banding in Lenovo G50-80 laptop display (i915)
Probably related: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9716467/ Since the introduction of kernel 4.8 I've been experiencing color banding on my Lenovo G50-80 notebook. I also had reports of the same symptoms on the G50-70 model. I figured out that the problem had been introduced by commit 210a021dab639694600450c14b877bf3e3240adc The G50-80's LCD panel supports 6bpc, but is now set to 8bpc, and the system probably falls back to 6bpc without any dithering, which result in heavily banded gradients. I fixed it for myself by adding an EDID quirk for that particular LCD panel (see the attached patch). It's unknown to me, however, if there are any other panels affected by the issue, so maybe a more general solution might be desirable. diff --git a/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c b/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c index fad3d44e4642..ee3124bcae87 100644 --- a/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c +++ b/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c @@ -147,6 +147,9 @@ static const struct edid_quirk { /* Medion MD 30217 PG */ { "MED", 0x7b8, EDID_QUIRK_PREFER_LARGE_75 }, + /* Fix for Lenovo G50 */ + { "SDC", 18514, EDID_QUIRK_FORCE_6BPC }, + /* Panel in Samsung NP700G7A-S01PL notebook reports 6bpc */ { "SEC", 0xd033, EDID_QUIRK_FORCE_8BPC }, ** Tags added: banding bionic color edid i915 lenovo-g50 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1819968 Title: Colour banding in Lenovo G50-80 laptop display (i915) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1819968/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
I have the same issue here, Ubuntu 14.04.1 64bit (3.13.0-33-generic) with Unity, using Dual screen and NVS 300, Nvidia proprietory drivers v 340.24. Sometimes in the past I was able to get the input password box to appear when I was moving the mouse around from one screen to another. This was causing the login box to change screens and sometimes the input would come back. Lately this doesn't work for me any more, and the only work around is the unity --replace command from a terminal. I also noticed that when I come back to my session my gnome-terminal is completely lost in the background and if it was minimized I cannot bring it back. I don't know if this is related. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311316 Title: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1311316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1036719] Re: REGRESSION: Trust 2MP Webcam microphone not working (USB ID 145f:015b)
Returned with updates. I am now convinced that the mic is not working with alsa-driver1.0.24 and above. I tried with ubuntu 9.10 10.4 10.10 11.04 and it works fine. With 11.10 and above releases of ubuntu that have pre-installed alsa-driver-1.0.24 microphone is not working. What should i do now so that in some way this can be fixed? I tried also to compile 1.0.23 alsa but i get some errors about missing files that i realised that they are not included in recent releases of kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1036719 Title: REGRESSION: Trust 2MP Webcam microphone not working (USB ID 145f:015b) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1036719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It doesn't bother me at this time abount front and rear mic. I only use the mic from webcamera and it doesn't work at Ubuntu 12.04. Strange thing because in 11.04 it works fine. [Bug 1007236] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B wired network interface goes up and down at random
Hi, good to see the issue has been opened. Using the r8168 realtek drivers r8168-8.023.00 with kernel 3.0.0-19-generic used to work fine (after replacing the default r8169). Further kernel updates do not allow compiling of the r8168-8.023.00 driver. Using the latest available Realtek drivers at the time and up to kernel version 3.0.0-26 gives very poor network quality. The network connection is very poor with frequent stalls in download and completely messes up streaming media. Alas the stats do not show disconnections. After trying realtek drivers : r8168-8.025.00 r8168-8.030.00 r8168-8.031.00 I have reverted back to kernel 3.0.0-19 so I can get a decent network connection. lspci gives: 06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
