[Bug 1895749] [NEW] Greek special character not working Kubuntu 20.04 LTS

2020-09-15 Thread Kostas K
Public bug reported:

After a clean Installation of Kubuntu 20.04 LTS (previous version 19.04 with
limited support)
I am facing the problem described below In all Kubuntu applications (where I
have to type In Greek language) like Kate, LibreOffice etc.
Only exceptions are the web browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.
There everything works fine.
Environment languages are First the US English and second the Greek Simple.
The problem Is that I cannot type the most important Greek special character
(accent) : tonos (')
e.g. I cannot type the word καλός but instead I come up with the word καλ'ος.
We type the special character need to be shown above the letters by pressing
first the :; key next to L and then the specific letter we want to have the
special character combined.
The result Is that I cannot practically use edit or create a descent document
or note etc. In Greek language.

[Bug 1863769] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04: Wifi adapter not detected after kernel update

2020-02-18 Thread Kostas Giannakos
Public bug reported:

"lsb_release -rd" output:
  Description: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
  Release: 18.04

So, my linux kernel was updated to 5.3.0-40 today, and my wifi adapter is no
longer functional. When I run "lshw", the usb-1 device is detected, but is
"UNCLAIMED".
Booting with the previous kernel works, so I figured it's a kernel problem.

[Bug 1767720] Re: Ubiquity crashed during install of 18.04 with error 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'

2019-10-03 Thread Kostas Peletidis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1751252 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751252

I saw the same bug during installation of Xubuntu 18.04 LTS on a 32-bit Acer
Aspire Revo (Intel Atom cpu, NVidia MCP79 chipset). It looks like the nvidia
driver has something to do with it. I tried twice to install with the
proprietary drivers (including nvidia) enabled and I saw the bug. The third
time I installed without proprietary drivers and the installation worked fine.
After installation I enabled the proprietary nvidia driver, no problems at all.

2019-08-29 Thread Kostas Krinis
Thank you very much for your answer, but I found the way to solve the
problem. Finally I didn't use the last version of Ubuntu, but the one
that was at the previous 19.1 mint. 4 something. The last is 5
something. All bugs were fixed.

Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1801540] Re: Microphone distorted sound on ALC892/1220 on AMD chipsets

2019-06-28 Thread Kostas Papadopoulos
Most reports mention ALC1220, but the same bug occurs in older AMD
systems also.

E.g. it occurs on a 2014 system by Dell, AMD chipset, AMD G-T48E CPU, ALC269VB,
with Linux 4.19.
Whereas the microphone of that system works OK with Windows 10.

you did it e.g. for the HP Pavilion a few months ago :-)

[Bug 1819968] Re: Colour banding in Lenovo G50-80 laptop display (i915)

2019-03-14 Thread Kostas Papadopoulos
Thank you for your quick response!

This regression / bug was found out almost 2 YEARS ago:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=225215
and a patch was sent to upstream (see post #2), but apparently it was never
pulled.

Regarding hex vs dec, the file in master they seem to be mixing both:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_edid.c

The product id number for a specific panel is found in Xorg.log:
fgrep EDID /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 751.496] (II) modeset(0): EDID vendor "SDC", prod id 18514

Anyway, I am hoping that Ubuntu, which has the biggest base of desktop
Linux users (and in particular of people who may have bought laptops
without pre-installed Windows, like Lenovo G50-80 and G50-70), would
choose to fix this regression for Ubuntu users.

Colour bandind is visible everywhere in the system. I believe it's not a

[Bug 1819968] Re: Colour banding in Lenovo G50-80 laptop display (i915)

2019-03-13 Thread Kostas Papadopoulos
Probably related:

https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9716467/

Since the introduction of kernel 4.8 I've been experiencing color
banding on my Lenovo G50-80 notebook. I also had reports of the same
symptoms on the G50-70 model.

I figured out that the problem had been introduced by commit
210a021dab639694600450c14b877bf3e3240adc

The G50-80's LCD panel supports 6bpc, but is now set to 8bpc,
and the system probably falls back to 6bpc
without any dithering, which result in heavily banded gradients.

I fixed it for myself by adding an EDID quirk for that particular LCD
panel (see the attached patch). It's unknown to me, however, if there
are any other panels affected by the issue, so maybe a more general
solution might be desirable.

[Bug 1819968] [NEW] Colour banding in Lenovo G50-80 laptop display (i915)

2019-03-13 Thread Kostas Papadopoulos
Public bug reported:

Colour bandind is visible everywhere in the system. I believe it's not a
hardware problem, since booting with 'nomodeset' works as expected and
the previously installed Ubuntu 14.04 also worked.

I tried installing kernel 4.18.0-16.17 from ppa:canonical-kernel-
team/ppa but the problem remained.

There were already similar bugs, https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1749420
, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1794387 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788308, but the fixes provided for
those bugs did not work for my specific monitor.

2018-04-28 Thread Kostas Vekrakis.com
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1752772 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752772

I have a SONY VAIO laptop model VPCEB3M1E. After upgrade from kubuntu
17.10 to kubuntu 18.04 i have this problem: Ethernet disconnect after
suspend. My ethernet controller is: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Yukon
Optima 88E8059 [PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller with AVB] (rev 11) and
the kernel module is sky2.

I try: sudo modprobe -r sky2 and then: sudo modprobe -i sky2 and the
ethernet working since the computer goes in sleep mode. After suspend
the problem again exists.

The linux kernel is 4.15.0-20-generic

[Bug 1572739] Re: Mac UEFI boot 24x slower keyboard/touchpad troubled

2017-05-18 Thread Kostas Chatzikokolakis
I had almost the exact issue described in this bug (the only exception
being that in my case the internal keyboard was slow no matter what),
and it was completely fixed after the macOS 10.12.4 update.

[Bug 1438173] [NEW] package cryptsetup 2:1.6.1-1ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: η υποδιεργασία installed post-installation script επέστρεψε κατάσταση λάθους 1

2015-03-30 Thread Kostas N. Andreou
Public bug reported:

cryptsetup was on upgrade procedure, but there are no crypt filesystems in my
installation. Additionally it is a live ubuntu-mate 15.04 beta2 usb
installation with casper-rw file.
Further system informations:

1) ubuntu-mate@ubuntu-mate:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch)
Release:15.04

2) ubuntu-mate@ubuntu-mate:~$ apt-cache policy cryptsetup
cryptsetup:

 *** 2:1.6.1-1ubuntu7 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main i386 Packages

3)I expected to update initramfs but I suppose it is no possible in a
live ubuntu install. Perhaps I'll just uninstall cryptsetup, as I don't
use it.

4) The synaptic upgrade procedure couldn't upgrade cryptsetup.

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-08-13 Thread Kostas Ubuntoulis
I have the same issue here, Ubuntu 14.04.1 64bit (3.13.0-33-generic)
with Unity, using Dual screen and NVS 300, Nvidia proprietory drivers v
340.24.

Sometimes in the past I was able to get the input password box to appear
when I was moving the mouse around from one screen to another. This was
causing the login box to change screens and sometimes the input would
come back. Lately this doesn't work for me any more, and the only work
around is the unity --replace command from a terminal. I also noticed
that when I come back to my session my gnome-terminal is completely lost
in the background and if it was minimized I cannot bring it back. I
don't know if this is related.

I had the exact same problem, random screen freezing, especially during video

As a shot in the dark i installed caffeine to prevent the screensaver and the
freezing stopped. Hope this helps.

[Bug 1244948] Re: Bluetooth is stuck after suspend until WiFi networking is toggled

2013-10-30 Thread Kostas Chatzikokolakis
(apologies for double post, I accidentally pressed "post" before
finishing)

I have a similar issue on a Dell XPS 13. Bluetooth does not work after
suspend, it started happening after upgrade to 13.10.

In my case the workaround is to disable wireless using the hardware switch
(Fn+F2), then turn it back on.
(the similar network-manager workaround reported by the bug opener does not
work for me)

[Bug 1242313] [NEW] White background on text missing when renaming a file

2013-10-20 Thread Kostas Vrouvas
Public bug reported:

After updating to 13.10 from 13.04 the white background is missing when
renaming a file, making it hard to see/read on darker desktops because
of the grey font.

See here: http://i.imgur.com/yU9bTfK.png

Previous actions:

1. Tried creating a new user, same thing happens.
2. Tried different themes. also the same.

[Bug 1048258] Re: Cypress trackpad gets psmouse lost sync / driver resynced warnings

2013-05-24 Thread Kostas Chatzikokolakis
I have the same issue (Dell XPS 13, Ubuntu 13.04).

Just wanted to add that the messages in /var/log/syslog appear only when
the laptop's _lid is closed_ (I close it when using an external
monitor/keyboard).

When I open the lid the messages immediately and consistently stop.
I guess the lid is messing with the touchpad's sensors.

[Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-09-09 Thread Kostas Manetakis
I installed Linux Mint 13, the Mate variety. I don't seem to get the
crash anymore. The system looks pretty stable.

Interestingly, after installing the light-themes package (for a
...ubuntu-like look), I was immediately able to reproduce the crash.
Removing light-themes or simply using the standard Mint themes fixed the
problem.

Any clues here?

Xorg crashes again after suspending, resuming and moving one finger
frantically on the touch-pad.

The issue may be related to the one reported on Debian:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/xorg-server/+bug/956071

Tried downgrading the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package to
1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5 as suggested there, but it does not help.

I have the same problem on a Fujitsu P3110 netbook with 12.04,Classic-
Gnome (no effects), 256G SSD, no nvidia card. After a fresh install
with 12.04.1, I got the problem a day or so later.

It has been running with no Xorg crash so far after the following
change:

(1) Created a xorg.conf with
sudo X :1 -configure
which creates a xorg.conf.new in the ~ directory. Then,
sudo cp ~/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
to copy it to the /etc/X11/ directory
(2) Inspecting the xorg.conf I saw that it had created Screen0, Screen1 &
Screen2 Sections. I removed the Screen1 & Screen2 sections. My xorg.conf now

[Bug 1036719] Re: REGRESSION: Trust 2MP Webcam microphone not working (USB ID 145f:015b)

2012-08-15 Thread Kostas Sorokin
Returned with updates.
I am now convinced that the mic is not working with alsa-driver1.0.24 and above.
I tried with ubuntu 9.10 10.4 10.10 11.04 and it works fine.
With 11.10 and above releases of ubuntu that have pre-installed
alsa-driver-1.0.24 microphone is not working.

What should i do now so that in some way this can be fixed?
I tried also to compile 1.0.23 alsa but i get some errors about missing files
that i realised that they are not included in recent releases of kernel.

2012-08-15 Thread Kostas Sorokin
It doesn't bother me at this time abount front and rear mic.
I only use the mic from webcamera and it doesn't work at Ubuntu 12.04.
Strange thing because in 11.04 it works fine.

I think the possibility that the alsa version makes the change but am i not
sure.
How can i check this? I can't compile alsa-driver-1.0.23 in ubuntu 12.04

[Bug 1007236] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B wired network interface goes up and down at random

2012-07-05 Thread Kostas Lagogiannis
Hi, good to see the issue has been opened.
Using the r8168 realtek drivers r8168-8.023.00 with kernel 3.0.0-19-generic
used to work fine (after replacing the default r8169).
Further kernel updates do not allow compiling of the r8168-8.023.00 driver.
Using the latest available Realtek drivers at the time and up to kernel
version 3.0.0-26 gives very poor network quality.
The network connection is very poor with frequent stalls in download and
completely messes up streaming media.
Alas the stats do not show disconnections. After trying realtek drivers :
r8168-8.025.00
r8168-8.030.00
r8168-8.031.00

I have reverted back to kernel 3.0.0-19 so I can get a decent network
connection.

lspci gives:
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI
Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 06)

2012-07-04 Thread Kostas Sorokin
Public bug reported:

Installation of proprietary ati drivers fails with kernel
3.5.0-2-generic.

Both the (version current) and (post-release updates) drivers fail to install
on 12.10 kernel but do install on 12.04 kernel.
So does and the installation of drivers from official site of amd.

[Bug 744310] Re: Fingerprint Validity reader devices [138a:0005] VFS301 and [138a:0008] VFS300 not recognized.

2012-06-17 Thread Kostas Stam
Hi all.

Thanks to your help here, I managed to have my HP Pailion DV7 with 138a:0005
VFS301 working on ubuntu 12.04.
Today I wanted to try on an extra partition ubuntu 12.10.
I used the "make.sh" script found above but had no luck untill now.
Did anayone manage to get the driver and fprint_demo work on ubuntu 12.10?

Thanks in advance.
