[Bug 156306] Re: Kcontrol corrupts the .kde/share/config permissions

This backtrace is unrelated (and this bug in Strigi is now resolved).

Also, posting backtraces without installing the debug symbols before is
just useless.

2008-04-26 Thread krop
That is what is bug report is talking about.

We *know* bcm43xx is working... bcm43xx is now deprecated and will be removed
in future kernels.
The way you load or unload b43 or bcm43xx is irrelevant. The problem remains
the same : some wireless cards are unable to associate with their AP in kernel
2.6.24.

Unfortunately, that's not the actual stable kernel but the one shipped
with Ubuntu Hardy.

[Bug 60448] Re: .xsession_errors file grows out of control saturates disk space

2008-04-21 Thread krop
@Martin : I'm not using the KDE4 packages. Just using the kdm-kde3 one
as login manager.

So, the truncate ERRFILE part is present in /etc/X11/Xsession.

However, for what I understand, this script is only read once when users
are opening their session.

There is no control of .xsession-errors' size _while_ the session is
running.

I'll just mention Nepomuk being way too verbose when associated with Strigi for

I'm sorry, but is this bug supposed to be resolved ?

I've just lost some of my applications settings because .xsession-errors
got monstruously big (more than 4 Gb).

I'm using Hardy Heron and kdm as a login manager (if this detail has an
importance)

2008-03-31 Thread krop
So I confirm it is unrelated to what I reported.
The triage team considers that every problem related to SSB are duplicates of
this one for unknown reasons.

I'm very happy we have learnt how to get rid of the wlan0_rename
interface (or at least get a proper name). I'm pleased to see that
ohci_hcd does not require ssb anymore, but all that has nothing to do
with the timeouts Nattgew and I encounter when using the b43 driver.

See the last posts and the thread on bcm43xx-dev mailing list.

- blacklist b43 and modproble b43legacy = no interface is created
- if b43 is not blacklisted, loading b43legacy also loads b43 (I don't know if
it is a normal behaviour)

Already done with the same result. Note that in both case, iwlist sees
the wifi routers around me but fails to associate with the same timeout

For what I can see with 2.6.24-12.20, SSB is still loaded when
modprob'ing b43. Even with the latest kernel version, I can't use b43 to

After upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy, I blacklisted the ndiswrapper module and
the bcm43xx one to try the b43 one (I used b43-fwcutter and the correct file to

After rebooting, the network doesn't work and only does if I unload

[Bug 129801] Re: kde-window-decorator crashes in gutsy

2007-10-26 Thread krop
Hello,

Here's my contribution to this bug :
compiz --replace,
then kde-window-decorator --replace.

and kde-window-decorator immediately crashes if I try to manipulate the
window. In the attached trace, I just tried to use the mousewheel on the
window border.

[Bug 156306] Kcontrol corrupts the .kde/share/config rights

2007-10-23 Thread krop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kcontrol

$ uname -a
Linux localhost 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

$ kcontrol --version
Qt: 3.3.7
KDE: 3.5.8
KDE Control Center: 3.5.8

After helping a few users that couldn't save their changes in kcontrol, I
tried to find the reason :
On a fresh kubuntu installation, after changing parameters that require root
rights in kcontrol, changing section will create configuration files in
$HOME/.kde/share/config which own to root.

Example :
kcontrol / administration / restricted drivers requires root right to install
drivers.

Result in $HOME/.kde/share/config :
-rw--- 1 root root44 2007-10-23 17:52 adept_batchrc
-rw--- 1 root root46 2007-10-23 17:33 adept_managerrc

This may seem normal (even if I'm not sure about these ones).

After that I tried to change the keyboard settings in the accessibility
section.

Result :
-rw--- 1 root root 233 2007-10-23 17:52 kxkbrc

The configuration file was created with root rights, probably because I
used to be root just before.

The consequences are easy to guess : the settings cannot be changed by the user
or you get this :

  Qt: 3.3.7
  KDE: 3.5.8
  KDE Control Center: 3.5.8

After helping a few users that couldn't save their changes in kcontrol, I
tried to find the reason :
- On a fresh kubuntu installation, after changing parameters that require root
rights in kcontrol, changing section will create configuration files in
$HOME/.kde/share/config which own to root.
+ On a fresh kubuntu installation, after changing parameters that require root
privileges in kcontrol, changing section will create configuration files in
$HOME/.kde/share/config which own to root.

  Example :
- kcontrol / administration / restricted drivers requires root right to install
drivers.
+ kcontrol / administration / restricted drivers requires root privileges to
install drivers.

  Result in $HOME/.kde/share/config :
  -rw--- 1 root root44 2007-10-23 17:52 adept_batchrc
  -rw--- 1 root root46 2007-10-23 17:33 adept_managerrc

This may seem normal (even if I'm not sure about these ones).

After that I tried to change the keyboard settings in the accessibility
  section.

  Result :
  -rw--- 1 root root 233 2007-10-23 17:52 kxkbrc

- The configuration file was created with root rights, probably because I
- used to be root just before.
+ Root owns the file, probably because I used to be root just before.

The consequences are easy to guess : the settings cannot be changed by the
user or you get this :

[Bug 148173] [Gutsy] Canon LBP-810 / LBP-1120 : Can't open FIFO: Permission denied

2007-10-02 Thread krop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

Linux mokona 2.6.22-12-generic #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 18:11:30 GMT 2007 i686
GNU/Linux
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 04a9:262b Canon, Inc. LaserShot LBP-1120 Printer

Hello,

I'm testing Gutsy on a fresh partition and tried to reinstall my Canon
printer (model LBP-1120) following the same tutorial as the one I used
for Feisty : http://v0xel.wordpress.com/2007/04/23/canon-lbp1120-on-
ubuntu-704-feisty-fawn/

/etc/cups/printers.conf after installation :

Printer LBP-1120
Info LBP-1120
DeviceURI ccp:/var/ccpd/fifo0
State Idle
StateTime 1191341496
Accepting Yes
Shared Yes
JobSheets none none
QuotaPeriod 0
PageLimit 0
KLimit 0
OpPolicy default
ErrorPolicy retry-job
/Printer

The canon monitor (captstatusui) works fine : It detects if I turn the
printer OFF.

but it seems cupsys can't communicate with it.

On the html interface (http://localhost:631/printers/LBP-1120) : LBP-1120
Can't open FIFO: Permission denied
dmesg output after turning the printer on :

I'll attach the error file and lsusb -v output.

[Bug 148173] Re: [Gutsy] Canon LBP-810 / LBP-1120 : Can't open FIFO: Permission denied

2007-10-02 Thread krop
Till, one point ! :)

Printer is working.

but the dmesg still shows :

[62822.028000] audit(1191345145.121:141): type=1502
operation=inode_permission requested_mask=w denied_mask=w
name=/var/ccpd/fifo0 pid=4376 profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd

Would adding /var/ccpd/fifo0 rw, to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd
make it disappear ?
