[Bug 568704] Re: debian-installer preseed "d-i mirror/http/proxy" sets env http_proxy

2017-05-18 Thread ladiko
It's offtopic but might help some people having issues with preseed:

I went over to use mksquashfs to get an image of one machine which is up
to date and mount it on another system and use rsync to update the other
machine to the exact same state. I use rsync --exclude /etc/hostname
--exclude /etc/hosts --exclude /mount and more exclusions and get the
same system with specific files unchanged. on new systems I use a
minimal linux from minimal.linux-bg.org on a memory drive and partion
the hard disk, rsync the files to the disk and chroot update-grub etc.

5 minutes installation / update and no need to preseed or download
everthing on each system.

[Bug 1686924] Re: distorted mouse cursor on kernel 4.4.0-75

2017-05-18 Thread ladiko
I will try the mainline kernel tomorrow. I can say it does not happen
with Ubuntu 16.04 and seems to be related to 64bit kernels on a 32bit
system. It doesnt happen with 32bit kernels.

[Bug 1453298]

2015-12-09 Thread ladiko
I tried all ubuntu 14.04 LTS kernels from 3.13 over 3.16, 3.19 to 4.2
and got freezes with all of them except for 3.13. All which produced
freezes have been tried with all mentioned kernel parameters and
verified it with cat /proc/cmdline. Kernel 4.2 + intel_idle.max_cstate=1
froze within 1 day.

We are running almost 200 machines with a identical setup of ubuntu
14.04 + xfce4 + chromium + html5-kiosk web application which includes an
ogm video which is played when idle and otherwise some hardware
accelerated html5 animations. 50 of the machines were supported by an
Celeron J1900, the remains are equiped with older Core 2 Duo / Pentium
Dual-Core or Celeron 847 and ~20 AMD E1-2100 or A4-5000. The most stable
kernel for us is the default Ubuntu 14.04 kernel 3.13. We're going to
buy AMD Kabinis as we dont have any issues there except the higher TDP
and higher temperatures in a complete passively cooled system.

[Bug 1414676] [NEW] time-admin can't select date when it's unlocked

2015-01-26 Thread ladiko
Public bug reported:

when i run time-admin as a user, everything is grayed out and looks ok.
if i click on unlock and enter the sudo-password, the mark for the
selected date disappears. it's still selected and i can also select
another date which is set afterward - just the mark is not visible. It
also happens when i start it via sudo.

i use ubuntu 14.04 server + xfce4 + gnome-system-tools.

dbus-launch support, so i have to add this for nm-applet like this:

sudo sed -i 's/Exec=nm-applet/Exec=dbus-launch nm-applet/g'
/etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop

[Bug 1356328] [NEW] startxfce4 can't be used with --with-ck-launch

2014-08-13 Thread ladiko
Public bug reported:

In trusty the script /usr/bin/startxfce4 has #!/bin/sh as shebang and
in line 27 it uses test:

if test x$OPT == x--help ...

if i execute

sh -c 'if test x--help == x--help ; then echo ok ; else echo not ok
; fi'

sh returns:
sh: 1: test: x--help: unexpected operator
not ok

this leads to the fact that neighter --help nor --with-ck-launch nor any
other parameter is ever respected / executed.

changing the test to something that is conform to sh syntax or chaning
the shebang to #!/bin/bash should fix the isue.

[Bug 1214915] [NEW] udev doesnt execute setfacl -b %N on boot

2013-08-21 Thread ladiko
Public bug reported:

I want to remove the acls from /dev/video[0-9]* which are set by
/lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules.

So i created a file /etc/udev/rules.d/98_MyWebcam.rules which executes
/bin/setfacl -b $env{DEVNAME} when the video devices are detected.
Unfortunately this only works if i plug the device during runtime but
not when the system starts.

i set the log level in /etc/udev/udev.conf to debug and see that:

[Bug 1214915] Re: udev doesnt execute setfacl -b %N on boot

2013-08-21 Thread ladiko
This is another machine with the same software packages, kernel etc.
just the hardware setup is slightly different. there are 3 cameras of
the same vendor/model and 1 from another vendor. so i just want the
three cameras to be effected, thats why the udev.rule executes the same
command but looks for the vendor id.

so when i boot, all cameras still have their acls, executing udevadm
trigger changes 2 cameras while 1 preserves the acls and another call of
udevadm changes the last of three cameras.

i also checked the syslog. After a restart, setfacl isnt executed, even
not if i restart udev, but when i use udevadm trigger, udevd calls
setfacl for the video devices.
