[Bug 144315] kde-window-decorator crashes when trying to scroll on the side of a window (gutsy)

2007-09-23 Thread lavid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I'm running the latest version of everything for gutsy.
When I have compiz kde-window-decorator running and I use the scroll when my
cursor is over the edge of a window, like to resize it, kde-window-decorator
crashes.

Here's the backtrace:

[Bug 129801] Re: kde-window-decorator crashes in gutsy

2007-09-21 Thread lavid
kde-window-decorator will also crash, without fail when you move the mouse to
the edge of a window so the resize window cursor appears and then scrolling
using the scroll wheel on the mouse.
Attached is a backtrace.

[Bug 137292] kghostview crashes on zooming pdf

2007-09-04 Thread lavid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kghostview

This might be related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/24630 since I'm
pretty sure they use the same backend (ghostview).

Here's how to reproduce the bug:
1. Have latest kubuntu packages for gutsy (as of 2007/Sept/04)
2. Download http://www.cs.uiuc.edu/class/fa07/cs421/mps/MP2/mp2.pdf
3. Open with kghostview
4. Zoom in and out like crazy
5. Watch it crash

Here's the error log:

Nor does reiserfs start as executable. I also understand the vfat issue,
and I agree. But ext2/3/4, xfs, reiserfs 3/4 should be executable IMHO.

[Bug 108214] Re: cannot execute programs/scripts from USB drives (including reiserfs and ext)

2007-05-31 Thread lavid
** Summary changed:

- cannot execute programs/scripts from USB drives
+ cannot execute programs/scripts from USB drives (including reiserfs and ext)

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

- 1) mount a USB drive that contains an executable script or binary
+ 1) mount a USB drive that contains an executable script or binary (this
includes any reiserfs or ext filesystem)
  2) attempt to run/execute that script or binary program
  3) cry

It seems that USB drives are not mounted with execute permissions. This
may be intentional, but it's definitely not the expected behavior and
seems to have some very undesirable consequences as myself and many on
the #kubuntu channel have come across this issue and spent a few hours
trying to figure out the cause.

I asked if anyone in #ubuntu was having the same issue and I got no
response, so I assume it's just a kubuntu issue.

[Bug 108214] cannot execute programs/scripts from USB drives

2007-04-20 Thread lavid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

1) mount a USB drive that contains an executable script or binary
2) attempt to run/execute that script or binary program
3) cry

It seems that USB drives are not mounted with execute permissions. This
may be intentional, but it's definitely not the expected behavior and
seems to have some very undesirable consequences as myself and many on
the #kubuntu channel have come across this issue and spent a few hours
trying to figure out the cause.

I asked if anyone in #ubuntu was having the same issue and I got no
response, so I assume it's just a kubuntu issue.

[Bug 107885] Re: perl doesn't work after fresh kubuntu feisty install

2007-04-19 Thread lavid
okay, so it was because i was running the script on my external HDD. it
seems as if the mount options don't allow anything to be executed from
an external drive. it seems like this is intentional but has unintended
effects. anyone else have any comments?

[Bug 103128] No simple method to switch between different OpenGL implementations

2007-04-04 Thread lavid
Public bug reported:

There is no simple method, such as eselect for Gentoo, to switch between OpenGL
implementations. Some users (like me! :-D ) have the ability to switch between
an onboard video card and a dedicated graphics card either on their laptop or
desktop (ie Sony SZ laptop series can switch between an Intel onboard graphics
chip and an Nvidia 7xxx card). Gentoo provides the ability to switch between
OpenGL implementations via the eselect opengl utility. It would be really
helpful if there were a simple way to switch between these implementations
since the only way I've found to do so breaks whenever Xorg or Nvidia's drivers
are updated.
This might also be useful for switching between proprietary drivers and FLOSS
drivers in a more fluid fashion.

Thanks for all your work!

Re: [Bug 75298] Re: No sonypi module

2006-12-22 Thread lavid
There is nothing 64bit incompatible about the module other than the
way the module was written. There is no proprietary code and it most
certainly will work in the future. The module author's website is:
http://www.popies.net/sonypi/ I think that he should be informed of
the incompatibility and that the changes must be made to the Linux
Kernel itself.

for 64bit users is: rsjog

[Bug 75298] Re: No sonypi module

2006-12-19 Thread lavid
Okay, I've been digging around the kernel menuconfig and I've found that
the sonypi module won't show up in the menuconfig if you're on a 64bit
architecture:

  │ Symbol: SONYPI [=m] │
│ Prompt: Sony Vaio Programmable I/O Control Device support (EXPERIMENTAL │
  │ Defined at drivers/char/Kconfig:840 │
  │ Depends on: EXPERIMENTAL X86 PCI INPUT !64BIT │
  │ Location: │
  │ - Device Drivers │
  │ - Character devices

Is this module really problematic when running 64bits?

[Bug 75298] Re: No sonypi module

2006-12-18 Thread lavid
I can confirm this for Feisty AND Edgy. This only affects the 64bit
versions. This is high priority since it prevents users from using built
in volume controls, brightness controls, and scroll lock.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# locate sonypi
/usr/lib/directfb-0.9.24/inputdrivers/libdirectfb_sonypi.so
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.19-7-generic/include/linux/sonypi.h
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.19-7/include/linux/sonypi.h
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.20-2/include/linux/sonypi.h
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.20-2-generic/include/linux/sonypi.h
/usr/include/linux/sonypi.h

But, when I attempt to install the sonypi module using apt-get or
module-assistant I get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# apt-get install sonypi
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package sonypi

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# module-assistant auto-install sonypi
sonypi, what is sonypi?

I also have a Sony SZ340.

Thanks,

Dave

[Bug 35741] Re: Wrong module directory used when loading i915_dri.so ?

2006-12-17 Thread lavid
Albert Paul, as for supporting dynamic switching between the two
cards, I'm pretty sure one is disabled when the other is in use. If both
were enabled (powered on), then the switch wouldn't have much utility in
terms of saving the battery. So, the only thing we could do is have a
similar message.
