[Bug 154095] Re: No internet removes All download repositories sources [ 82% ]

2007-11-22 Thread leexgx
thats to bad realy, all it seem sit needs an miner update even if its not noted
as an .1 rels
as all that needs doing is it Not remove the repositories when it fails thats
all do not see the problem in that as it makes problems for new users (brakes
add/remove as well)
or Do not download the repositories full stop when installing ubuntu do it
after (as when gusty came out all mirrors was hammered with users downloading
then Hammered agane when thay install ubuntu on an Active internet connection
as it downloads 6/9MB when connected)

you realy should give an Big warning about this when installing Gusty or
just tell them to use Festy for now untill Hardy (8.04) is out as this
is probly the worst ubuntu rels ever as past ubuntus i have never had
problems with allso bundling it with stuff thats is unstable as well
(apart from buttons not click-able untill you move your mouse off them
and not and still not been able to play Winamp audio streams all the
time {streams still an problem})

i should of tested 7.10 alot more as i could of brought this up alot
sooner as it was noted more then 2-3 months before that this bug was
present

--
you need to update the help files any way for gusty {make sure thay read it
before makeing the mestake of brakeing there setup} (Reword to tidey up) as i
guess its unlikey there is going to be an 7.10.1 disk
---
Due to problems in the live CD in Gusty 7.10 its recommended that the Internet
is Unpluged from the PC when doing and upgrade/fresh install as it may fail,
before doing upgrades allways make sure you back up your home folder (you
should back up to an ext hdd offen any way)
when installing fresh or upgrading when no internet is off you got an error (
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10060723/apt%20bug%20live%20cd%20installer%207.10%20all.PNG
but croped {just the error box only} ) once ubuntu has been installed you need
to turn the repositories back on (you will need to do this to make sure you get
securtiy updates and make Add/Remove work)

Ubuntu users
After install goto System Admin software sources

1. Tick all box's apart form source code (do not think norm users need that)
2. Pick your Download From server location (as it picks main server by default
click on search if you cant see one for you)
3. Goto updates and tick the first 2 options
4. [Optional] change the auto up date check to [Download all updates in
background] (assuming you do not have an hard disk that is very small its an
better option so your ready to install when you are ready just means you do not
need to have to wait for them to download)
do not recommend auto install with out confirmation as it may not wait for all
updates to be install when shutting down the PC, as it make brake your box

Kbuntu users
Cick on the K bottem left System (Not system setting) Adept Package Manager
Adept (top left text) Manage Repositories
then do the same as ubuntu for steps 2 to 4

2 Pick your Download From server location (as it picks main server by default
click on search if you cant see one for you)

this is be related to this problem (it does not remove the list its just
commented them out)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154095

for users who do not know how to fix this untill thay bring out ubuntu 7.10.1
goto System Admin software sources

1 tick all boxs apart form source code (do not think norm users need that)
2 Pick your Download From server location (as it picks main server by default
click on search if you cant see one for you)
3 goto updates and tick the first 2 options
4 [Optional] change the auto up date check to [Download all updates in
background] (asmuing you do not have an hard disk that is very small its an
better option so your ready to install when you are ready)
do not recommend auto install with out confirmation as it may not wait for all
updates to be install when shuting down the pc, as it make brake your box

[Bug 153889] Re: feisty dist upgrade check does not work

2007-10-18 Thread leexgx
why has gusty been rel like this

If it cant get an list of updates it should Never turn off the updates
for ever as it does

its done this in Ubuntu and Kubuntu

allso the Network manager should ALLways Look for an IP address from
DHCP as i have to click offline and back to Online to get it from
0.0.0.0 IP address

this is inside an VMware box but if i had an firewire card installed and
no network pluged in it may remove the securty updates (removed all
repos)

[Bug 22336] Re: CPU overheats during high usage throttling not supported

2007-10-16 Thread leexgx
why is this bug still here has 7.04 fixed this bug

why cant you just Let the laptop use its Own built in auto fan control
as windows as far as i know norm does not control the fan under norm use
unless you loaded an driver or an program to control it, just looks like
Linux kernel ACPI or ubuntu is overriding the fan controls (and thermal
protection) when the laptop has working one and may damage laptop over
long time

i have an T60 laptop to test but i have to Bend it all the time to make it work
(looks like it was not put back together right missing screws {not me was given
to me}) i fix this laptop (pull it apart and rebuild it) and see if i can get
it working fine (boots into XP fine when laptop is bent lol)

if it overheats but Other Linux distros do not its an Problem with the Ubuntu
code messing with the fan speeds

[Bug 22930] Re: Newly-sensitive button ignores clicks until cursor re-enters it

2007-07-01 Thread leexgx
does this with me as well (from 5.x and newer) wunder if in 7.10 thay
fix usablity bugs that have been there for years

thay should thow ubuntu at users to find out how to do simple things that
should work and report back and stick help box's there on what to do
not turn into an FAQ hunting day or 2 (an updateable help system be helpfull
{internet permitting} or at lest help box's that work and give usefull help on
how to fix it)

[Bug 123343] database locked-adept manager 7.04 and older

2007-06-30 Thread leexgx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

this is relating to this as well but it looks like it has been dismissed and
not been marked as Going to be fixed
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adept/+bug/117345

7.04

this is an bug that happens just by Update failing and no error crash or
an crash

Stuped java JRE install with an agree box at the bottom does not even
ASK you if you want to Skip it so when you click Next it should ASK you
are you sure you wish to Not install this update and tell the user to
Scroll to the bottom and tick it but if you do not it crash Apept and
you have to resort to command line (i think it did install java after
that as its not asking me to install it)

this BUG has been in ubuntu for the Last 4 vers back to 5.x (database
locked) all it seems to be doing is checking if A file is there, not
checking if it is really in use poor way of checking if the data base is
open and No way of resetting it in the GUI or reboot

what it should do is Tell the user Adept may be running still and check
in the task bar if its not there restart the pc and try agane (it should
Clean up apept on reboot) at most One line needs to be added to the
system start up to remove the database lock File {if thats how it
works}And as simple have an button on that Error box that Runs the {sudo
dpkg -configure -a} command

Update java 6 to {java 6 update 1} and Fix the package so that it does
not make an error

also where is update its missing on Kubuntu i cant manuley start it on
Kubuntu as i can on ubuntu (i have to wait for auto update to pop up and
that can be disabled as well when it should not be allowed to new users
mite just click never show agane and miss security updates for ever) {
was temped to tick that box at the bottem {This bug is a security
vulnerability }

no way i can use ubuntu for customers if Simple problems like this crop
up (resorting to forums and command line every time an minor problem
props up)

can you make an update that Clean this up for when the Next ver of
ubuntu comes out (remove database lock on reboot or do some sort of
Clean up) Its Very easy to make the database locked error just Crash
adept and it do it

apart from that seems to be getting better (at least now i can play some
music web sites but that does not work completely as well)

** Affects: adept (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2007-01-20 Thread leexgx
bugs as i see linux at this time (20% better from 4-6 yrs ago as we now
have an GUI installer and alot of drivers for stuff now work)

the other 80% needs sorting

As working for my self using Linux seems an good idea but as one stated
there needs to be an GUI for every Terminal command or config file, if
I give an pc with ubuntu on it not sure how long it take for them to
ring me and ask me what do I do

Ubuntu in some cases Hides useful GUI tools that need to be started from
the Terminal, in that case is an step backwards

Having to move mouse off every button to click on it needs fixing as
well (you click on an button that was greyed out then comes clickable
you try and click on it does Nothing until mouse is moved off and back
onto it agene)

0 help on install of ubuntu is also an other problem (also stated some
ware in there) if the norm user comes to Linux/ubuntu he should not need
to use Terminal (basic limited help files)

Adding new hardware - I have found its allot more easlyer to Reinstall
Linux then it is to find out how I get an new peace of hardware to work
(Kubuntu does an better job at this or should I say KDE),

also adding an new hdd can be an task in it self on Ubuntu its wasted 4 hrs of
my time trying to work out how I get an hdd to format on ubuntu server once I
did there was NO GUI tools for settings security and using err
{the program in terminal that I do not know what’s its called ubuntu had no
info on what the commands do even me as an techy I need Basic to adv how-to and
I work it out my self}
but the info was not there like it was 6-7 yrs ago when I used Red Hat in the
end I gave up and loaded windows 2003 and formatted the disk in 30 sacs after
windows was installed all 6 disks worked as well

I was only run like 2-3 programs on my server emule newsbin and IRC ,
and I wanted to be able to use them and Remote control (VNC) and that
was crap as well it was Rendering each frame not accepting Mouse click
all the time

---
Windows wins out on GUI for configuring every thing or maybe not I just
tried
-Mandria 2007 ONE But NO auto update unless you pay for it and the help files
do not work so i say no to this one
-Open suse 10.2 had no problems (installing it not for novices though) the
way suse does this it has made me think linux be as good and user frendly a lot
sooner then I thought before like 2 more yrs and I think we have an usable
dstros

In windows VMware {as I have been typing this}
And all the GUI options was there like M$ windows has to an limited degree

The OS needs to be user friendly and the Main menu needs to start at the
bottom left (can’t give Gnome to a normal user as it though him right
off the mark so I only use KDE only as main window)

Even my self it take allot to make me got Linux more as I can get things
done in M$ windows mostly instantly
