[Bug 221506] [NEW] slow access to ultrabay (thinkpad)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-16-generic My system: Thinkpad R51e with an hdd in ultrabay slot ( 2 disks are in raid 0 array) 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu. Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic. kernel 2.6.24 general (15 and 16) 3) What you expected to happen 4) What happened instead The reading speed "hdparm -tT" on /dev/sda (internal pata disk) gives 30-40 mb/s but the same command for /dev/sdb (a disk in an ultrabay enclosure) shows reading speed as low as 1 mb/s. Due to the fact that these 2 drives are in raid0 the system is very slow and unresponsive during I/O operations. There is no problem when I boot 2.6.22-14-generic. hdparm -tT gives 30-40mb/s for both hda and hdc; hdparm -tT /dev/md0 is around 70mb/s. One thing to note is that 2.6.22 assigns hdX to drives while the newer kernel uses sdX. Is there a new module responsible for these drives? There are no errors in "dmesg | grep sdb" when I boot 2.6.24 kernel. At least I see no suspicious messages. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: disk thinkpad ultrabay -- slow access to ultrabay (thinkpad) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 107826] Re: Extremely slow ACPI on Thinkpad R51e
Looks like you are having the same problem as in bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/107516 My thinkpad R51e also crawls to a halt on acpi and hal during boot (fresh feisty install). Looks like it is a bug in battery module. It takes 1 min to load battery.ko and 20sec for ibm_acpi. After I blacklisted them my system boots as fast as on edgy. -- Extremely slow ACPI on Thinkpad R51e https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 107516] Re: loading ACPI modules and starting HALd took too long time
I have exactly same problem with my thinkpad R51e and feisty fawn. The slow boot happens due to acpi stuff, in particular it takes ibm_acpi and battery modules ~20s and 1m to load respectively. Current work around that I use is blacklisting them. To do this add blacklist ibm_acpi blacklist battery to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist -- loading ACPI modules and starting HALd took too long time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107516 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
