[Bug 225326] [NEW] X Windows blank after resume from hibernate

2008-05-01 Thread llamahunter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hibernate

I upgraded using the "Update Manager" from 7.10 to 8.04. Now, when I
hibernate to disk, upon resume, X windows doesn't seem to fully come
back. I get a blank tan screen with a functional mouse pointer, but
nothing else. The background image doesn't display, and the windows are
obviously not there. The mouse does work, tho, in that I can move it
around the screen, so the X server is sort of alive. If I switch to a
different virtual terminal (i.e. vt1), I can log in and every thing
looks fine, but switching back to vt7 does not fix the problem.

Killing gdm does fix things, as X restarts and everything works fine
from there on out until the next suspend to disk. Of course, I lose all
my work in the process, so it sort of defeats the purpose of suspend to
disk.

This worked fine under Gutsy... something has changed with Hardy.

[Bug 225334] [NEW] Window border contains garbage when unfocused

2008-05-01 Thread llamahunter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-bcop

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04, and use the compiz-fusion desktop
effects. These worked well for me under 7.10, but under 8.04, I see
some visual artifacts that make it hard to tell which window is which
when they aren't focused. It appears that there is some sort of memory
corruption occurring when the window is unfocused, as the title bar
sometimes disappears, and sometimes contains garbage. See the
attachment for an example of both. The firefox window on the left has a
corrupted title bar, whire the shell window on the right has no titlebar
at all.

[Bug 225326] Re: X Windows blank after resume from hibernate

2008-05-02 Thread llamahunter
On further examination, it appears that this suspend/resume problem is
not in the hibernate layer, but probably in the gnome power management
layer on top of that. If I open a root shell in X windows and execute
/etc/apci/hibernate.sh directly, everything works fine. X Windows comes
back fully functional. It's only when I use the gnome power management
widget to suspend that something goes amiss and X windows does not
recover.

Attached are the requested output/files. I did 3 hibernate/resume
cycles. The first, I did by running hibernate.sh directly as root. It
succeeded. The second I did by pressing the power button which the
gnome power manager intercepts and handles. Strangely, this one
succeeded as well in that I ended up with a locked screen after resume,
entered my password, and everything seemed normal. The third time was a
repeat of the second (pressing power button so as to use gnome power
manager). This attempt did not succeed, in that after I resumed, the
screen was light tan with a moving mouse, but nothing else.

The firefox window on the left has a
corrupted title bar, whire the shell window on the right has no titlebar
at all.

** Affects: compiz-fusion-bcop (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 225326] Re: X Windows blank after resume from hibernate

2008-05-02 Thread llamahunter
On further examination, it appears that this suspend/resume problem is
not in the hibernate layer, but probably in the gnome power management
layer on top of that. If I open a root shell in X windows and execute
/etc/apci/hibernate.sh directly, everything works fine. X Windows comes
back fully functional. It's only when I use the gnome power management
widget to suspend that something goes amiss and X windows does not
recover.

[Bug 225326] Re: X Windows blank after resume from hibernate

2008-05-02 Thread llamahunter
Attached are the requested output/files. I did 3 hibernate/resume
cycles. The first, I did by running hibernate.sh directly as root. It
succeeded. The second I did by pressing the power button which the
gnome power manager intercepts and handles. Strangely, this one
succeeded as well in that I ended up with a locked screen after resume,
entered my password, and everything seemed normal. The third time was a
repeat of the second (pressing power button so as to use gnome power
manager). This attempt did not succeed, in that after I resumed, the
screen was light tan with a moving mouse, but nothing else.
