[Bug 241736] Re: support EPUB format

2012-11-25 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Evince *should* suport epub. Having a handful of apps, clearly labeled,
to handle out-of-the-box all of the most popular content formats is one
of the best selling points for Ubuntu in my experience.

I read the Ubuntu Brainstorm idea turn down - the approver showed very
poor judgement.

Okular supports epub because it is expected of it. Evince is already
years behind Okular. Let's hop a little closer.

[Bug 1014356] [NEW] Custom desktop wallpaper isn't displayed in the greeter (12.4)

2012-06-17 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Public bug reported:

Simple as that. If I choose one of the wallpapers bundled with Precise,
it displays in the login screen. If I choose a custom image, it doesn't.

I'm choosing images from my "Images" directory (my OS is set to French),
and their permissions are set to 775, or "-rw-rw-r--".

[Bug 1007462] [NEW] Sound unmuted when headphones are unplugged

2012-06-01 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Public bug reported:

Say I'm watching porn with my headphones on. Then my, let's say, eight
year old daughter comes into the room and asks me to read her a story. I
hit the mute button on my laptop, unplug my headphones, and bang...

She suddenly hears three girls moaning in some slavic language. Does
that make sense?

I would expect sound to get unmuted when I plug the headphones in - most
certainly not when I unplug them. If I was using headphones, I mute the
sound, and proceed to unplug them, it certainly doesn't mean that I
suddenly decided I want to share what I was listening to with everybody.
I did mute the sound after all.

Thanks.

PS: I'm on Precise, the laptop I run into this with is a Dell N4030, the
specific app I was using was Banshee. I was listening to Blur.

[Bug 995596] [NEW] Standard Ubuntu user accounts are not on sambashare group by default, thus can't create shares

2012-05-06 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Public bug reported:

That's it.

When you add a non-admin user account, it can't create a share until you
add it manually, using an admin account, to the sambashare user group.

When trying to create a share using Nautilus as a standard user (non-
admin) you'll get a very descriptive error message printed right into
the window. That is, descriptive for somebody with a lot of *nix XP,
otherwise completely bewildering.

[Bug 612170] [NEW] Search bar does not hide when the editing area is clicked

2010-07-31 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scribes

Use Ctrl+f to search for something that can be found on the text.

Click on the editing area. The search bar doesn't go away.

You can now edit the text, but can't go back to the search bar by
hitting Ctrl+f, which does nothing.

You can also not use Ctrl+z, and probably other stuff that I haven't
tried.

Suggested behaviour: clicking on the editing area makes the search bar
go away, but you can still move back and forth between "hits" by using
Ctrl+g and Shift+Ctrl+g, just like with highlighted words. I've seen
this behaviour on Gedit, and it's kinda cool.

Thanks, and cheers.

2010-04-25 Thread Javier Lorenzana
@Philipp You are indeed right-o, sir. Hence, my message, which read
something like "how does a user then purge his own configuration in
order to procure himself a truly fresh install?".

Also, you sound like a sysadmin. This isn't Debian, it's Ubuntu. We are
dealing with desktops here, not servers. "The administrator" is likely
your dad, or older brother, if anybody. So - how do I get a fresh
install *without* knowing my way around a terminal?

This is a question that the people working on the Ubuntu Software Store
or whatever it's called should think about.

[Bug 568749] Re: sftp link support is missing

2010-04-22 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Oh, I deal with bug reports daily, as I am a professional developer, and
I can assure you, given common familiarity with the application, my
description would've been quite enough.

However, let me make things clearer;
1) Open the Gnome Terminal; the default terminal emulation application in
Ubuntu.
2) Type "echo http://bugs.launchpad.net";. Hit "enter".
3) Right-click on the link, select "open link".

See how that works?

OK, now try this;
1) Once on the Gnome Terminal, type "echo sftp://some.server.with/files/in/it";
2) Place the pointer on top of the address - notice how the link's protocol is
not entirely underlined; the terminal mistakes an SFTP link for an FTP one.

Please let me know if this is still not clear enough.

2010-04-13 Thread Javier Lorenzana
It's true. Happened to me again for the Gmail plugin, because it also
uses GNOME's keyring.

I had to manually remove configuration files that GNOME-Do leaves all
over the place after purging it with apt.

That sucks. It should truly remove configuration files when purged.

As a temporary for anybody with this problem, purge Do as well as its Plugin
and Docklets packages and do a
> find -type d -name gnome-do
on your home directory. Remove any directory found that you haven't created
yourself with
> rm -rf path/to/dir

After re-installing Do, make sure not to enable any plug-ins that make
use of user names or passwords.

[Bug 163366] Re: Can't move to trash a file on a mounted filesystem

2010-04-02 Thread Javier Lorenzana
I'm running 9.04.

It's happening to me.

I have several hard drives that I mount through Nautilus. They are all
either Ext3 or NTFS drives.

I can normally "send files to trash" on all NTFS drives - they are
simply moved to .Trash-1000 on the drive and appear on the Trash Can.

However, whenever I try the same on my Ext3 drives (other than the ones
mounted during boot) I get the "can't send the file to trash, do you
want to delete it?" pop-up.

This is really annoying, and just costed me a large file that I
accidentally deleted.

Please let me know what the information you require to move forward on
this is.

[Bug 387334] Re: gnome-terminal does not recognize sftp:// urls (thinks they're ftp urls)

2009-08-30 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Confirming as well.

This is really annoying. I'm using sftp links on the terminal for work,
on a daily basis, and am therefore forced to use Konsole, which, of
course, has this feature working perfectly.

Please, give it a couple of minutes, it can't be that much of a fuzz.

[Bug 110707] Lost the Desktop effects CUBE after install, desinstall and install again the NVIDIA driver (nvidia-glx)

2007-04-27 Thread lorenzana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I have a laptop (NEC versa P8100) with NVIDIA GeForce GO 6200. With the
nvidia-glx from the repository is working well (also the DESKTOP
EFFECTS, including the "cube"), except the resolution can't be 1280x800,
and only 1076x768 (and the screen is wideview, so the image is
deformed). I download the driver from www.nvidia.com for the GeForce 6
series, and try to install. So, I unistall the nvidia-glx first (for the
ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE), close the X system, and install the nvidia driver.
So after installation, X is not working, so I install again apt-get
install nvidia-glx, and recover the X system, but now, I have only ONE
WORKSPACE, even with the CUBE activated on Desktop Effects.
