[Bug 479949] Re: Cannot print some PDFs in Evince on 64-bit Ubuntu

2010-02-01 Thread ma2412ma
I've tested it with the latest version of libcairo2 (1.8.8-2ubuntu1.1)
and it works. Therefore, I think this bug (and also the one that has
already been reported but Sebastien did not provide a link to) can be
closed.

[Bug 478212] [NEW] UMTS stick not present in Network Manager if already connected during startup

2009-11-08 Thread ma2412ma
Public bug reported:

I connect my UMTS USB stick (Huawei E160) before turning on my PC. When
I see my desktop, the UMTS stick is not in the list of the Network
Manager applet.

However, if I unplug the stick and plug it in again, it shows up in the
list.

The UMTS stick should show up in the list without having to unplug and
plug it in again.

[Bug 373167] Re: After installing Thunderbird, preferred applications shows both "Mozilla Thunderbird" and "Thunderbird"

2009-05-28 Thread ma2412ma
ld2ndR, you should execute:
$ sudo rm /usr/bin/mozilla-thunderbird
because mozilla-thunderbird is deprecated and only thunderbird should be used
in future.

Anyway, this would bring us back to the thunderbird package. If mozilla-
thunderbird was not created, the problem would be solved. Can anyone
confirm this?

[Bug 297543] Re: Update Package: nVidia 180.06

2008-11-26 Thread ma2412ma
Summing up, 173 and 177 don't work with Compiz, so there's no official
way to enable the desktop effects on Intrepid if you own an Nvidia card.
Now they have released a new driver which happens to be labeled as beta,
but it fixes all major bugs that we're complaining about. Just add 180
to the driver list and leave 177 the recommended one. Once 180 goes
final, recommend this release in the list. If possible, this should be
done ASAP for the reasons mentioned above. Just my 2 cents.

[Bug 212789] Re: gvfs fuse mount is not functional after logout and subsequent login

[Bug 212789] Re: gvfs fuse mount is not functional after logout and subsequent login

2008-05-13 Thread ma2412ma
Hm, I'm not so sure that mounting user-space volumes outside of the home
folder is a no-no - if there's a folder for that purpose, I think it
should be used to mount also the .gvfs stuff (just as it is used now to
mount USB drives and so on). There are some folders outside the home
that are writeable for non-root users (such as /tmp) right now. So why
not mount everything in /media?

Second, it seems to me that all non-Gnome applications would benefit
from this. Since not even all Gnome apps can handle it now (gedit), this
would be really helpful. My second example went unheard -
OpenOffice.org. It's strange that emacs supports gvfs, probably a Gnome
GUI version? Can you really open a text file from nautilus on an smb://
address and emacs doesn't complain?

Seems stupid to me to "enhance" each program with the gvfs support when
it'd be so easy to just mount the SSH/samba/FTP/... stuff to a regular
location in the file system hierarchy - IMHO, gvfs would be a real
killer feature then.

BTW, this discussion does not belong to this bug report any more, is
there a more suitable location for it?

[Bug 212789] Re: gvfs fuse mount is not functional after logout and subsequent login

2008-05-12 Thread ma2412ma
Of course I can make a symlink, but as Ross Peoples correctly writes,
Ubuntu is for human beings and not (just) for Linux nerds. That's why it
should just work. I understand that /Volumes is not the right location,
but then it should be ~/Volumes and not a hidden folder.

Concerning the question why we should need to access the folders in .gvfs
directly:
1. Try to open an OpenOffice document on a samba share.
2. Try to compile a LaTeX document on a samba share with gedit and the LaTeX
plugin.
3. Try to do anything with the shell with stuff on a samba share.

Replace samba share above with SSH, FTP, ...

Yes, it's installed by default now. However, please make the mount point
more visible - I suggest not to mount it within the home directory, but
for example in /Volumes. Would that create problems for a multi-user

everything gets mounted.

Question 2: Suppose gvfs is working, wouldn't it be a good idea to make
this more obvious to the users and not hide it somewhere as a hidden

everything gets mounted to /Volumes and is visibly accessible there.

[Bug 3581] Re: New ext3 partitions should not have max-mount count

2008-04-01 Thread ma2412ma
Can we at least make this configurable for the user? I mean configurable
for everybody (i.e. a module in the settings window) and not by fiddling
around in some config file. I just recently had the pleasure to enjoy a
fsck on my 200GB laptop 4200rpm drive. It took over 20 minutes and I
really needed my computer at that moment...

IMHO this is really a serious and annoying issue, and although it's
probably too late to be fixed in 8.04 it should be resolved ASAP with an
update. Either disable it by default or at least let the user decide. No
other OS does such a check at bootup, and it was introduced in Linux
distros about a year ago - before that we also had ext3 with no check
and I didn't hear of anybody having troubles because of that.

Well, Ubuntu is not the only distribution - openSUSE is also doing it

fully agree with Florin. What about creating an option in the control

default value of this option should be off, and paranoid users can
always turn it on with just a few mouse clicks.

[Bug 69494] Re: Kopete 0.12.3 can't log in to ICQ anymore

2006-11-11 Thread ma2412ma
When can we expect that the corrected version of Kopete gets into some
official repository? It's pretty annoying not being able to use ICQ
although there is a solution available - see also
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136566.

[Bug 70937] Package "mozilla-thunderbird" should be renamed to "thunderbird"

2006-11-08 Thread ma2412ma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

As the official package of Mozilla Firefox is now called just "firefox",
the same should be adopted for Mozilla Thunderbird, i.e. the package
should just be called "thunderbird".

[Bug 70935] Official item is of bad quality

2006-11-08 Thread ma2412ma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Since Ubuntu can now use the official Firefox item, it should be
provided in good resolutions. Currently, the icon seems to much
compressed and there are obviously not many icon sizes. In my KDE task
bar, the icon looks pretty ugly. Please provide the official icon in
multiple sizes (up to e.g. 128x128).

[Bug 35573] Re: No localizations available

2006-11-01 Thread ma2412ma
Any news on this bug? Still present in Edgy - pretty embarrassing for a
distribution that claims "that software tools should be usable by people
in their local language" in its philosophy. A solution was already
proposed by Olivier Cortes two entries above (although I believe this
behavior of KDM is not present in other distributions such as Suse
Linux).

[Bug 69642] Sun Java does not work out of the box

2006-11-01 Thread ma2412ma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konqueror

I've installed sun-java5-bin, configured it correctly and it is found in
a terminal if I just type "java" (without the full path). However,
Konqueror doesn't find the java executable, I have to manually enter the
full path (/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/) - only then is it working. This
should definitely be fixed.

[Bug 67521] Re: kwalletmanager do not rememeber passwords after session/system restart

2006-10-31 Thread ma2412ma
The workaround doesn't work for me - where exactly is the configuration
of kwallet? I can't find it in the start menu. If I right-click on the
icon in the system tray, I can configure the application, but I can't
find the entry "launch manager on KDE start" - there's only "enable the
KDE wallet subsystem", and I've tried to uncheck that and restart, but
that doesn't work.

[Bug 39268] Re: Cannot post in newsgroups

2006-06-29 Thread ma2412ma
I just checked, it is working now - seems to be the KDE 3.5.3 update.
Since KDE 3.5.3 is not officially part of Dapper 6.06, this bug should
not be closed unless someone fixes this bug in the KDE version that
comes with 6.06.

[Bug 50454] KDM should display users list

2006-06-20 Thread ma2412ma
Public bug reported:

It is very annoying that there is no list of available users when
logging in with KDM. IMHO there should be such a selection (like in
Suse, Win XP, ...) by default.

[Bug 49544] Re: Resolution of splash during boot process very low

2006-06-14 Thread ma2412ma
That's my point - you can select the desired resolution and it is
totally ignored afterwards. So, as Matthew pointed out, it is a bug and
should therefore be reopened as a bug.

[Bug 49544] Re: Resolution of splash during boot process very low

2006-06-14 Thread ma2412ma
Could you leave it as a wishlist item please? Because it is OK that it
uses vga16fb for maximum compatibility, but the user should at least get
the possibility to change it! Moreover, why can I choose the resolultion
at the boot menu of the installation process?

[Bug 49544] Re: Resolution of splash during boot process very low

2006-06-13 Thread ma2412ma
I don't think that it would break a lot of setups - it's fine if the
default is a low resolution. However, if I specifically select a higher
resolution (e.g. during the installation process, or later in the system
settings), it should be at least possible that I can use this higher
resolution. At the moment, only the low res is possible, although I've
selected a higher one during the installation procedure.

[Bug 49544] Resolution of splash during boot process very low

2006-06-12 Thread ma2412ma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

During the boot process, the screen resolution is very low (I guess
something like 640x480), although during the first-time installation of
Ubuntu, I've selected my native resolution of 1400x1050. IMHO the whole
splash thing looks rather poor - not only the resolution should be
changed, also the whole appearance (take a look at SUSE 10.0 or 10.1,
this look really good).

[Bug 49543] Bluetooth item still there althoug I've uninstalled all bluetooth libs

2006-06-12 Thread ma2412ma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings

I've uninstalled all bluetooth-related libraries and programs. However,
in the KDE system settings application, there is still an item
"Bluetooth" in the category "Internet & Networking" (with an empty
icon), and naturally it doesn't work. IMHO, if all bluetooth stuff has
been removed, the bluetooth item in system settings should also vanish.
