[Bug 954661] Re: backlight brightness not adjustable by default on Dell XPS 13
Hi. I have the exact same intel card id (8086:0116), but my Dell is the n411z. I am facing the same probelm with the latest ubuntu kernels i.e. my brightness function keys do not work with 13.10 and 14.04 (i.e. kernels 3.11 and 3.13). More info can be found here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1280394 Unfortunately even if I installed the latest permitted BIOS by DELL for my laptop (A06), there is no option for legacy rom that I can enable and see if that will fix the problem. Thank you for your reply. I will test kernel 3.15 and revert with news (probably later on today). In the meantime and after reading various reported bugs, I came accross this one: http://www.aristofunnies.gr/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/photo-12.jpeg It regards dell xps13, but refers to the exact same GPU (id 8086:0116). As you will read, the same problem persists especially on kernels after the 3.8, and they way to fix the fn function of the brightness keys in newer kernels is to set from the BIOS the Load Legacy Option Rom to Enabled. Unfortunately even if I have installed the lasted version of BIOS proposed by the DELL manufacturer (i.e. version A06), there is no option for legacy option. I am just throwing ideas. It may help you go towards the right direction for solving the bug. I will revert with news about the 3.15 kernel. [Bug 1229591] Re: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade
I installed today kernel 3.14.1. The problem is still present. I have not tried yet kernel 3.15 as it is in a very early (RC2) stage yet. I have also tried hundreds of grub parameters and conf files inside X11 (following the ARCH wiki here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/backlight) but still I could not make the brightness keys work. My opinion is that this is clearly a kernel problem. Something that will not be fixed by just adding parameters in grub etc. The buttons do not produce any kind of result in acpi_listen. Since this function was working just fine in earlier kernels, it must mean that there is a change or breakage as regards this aspect in the newer kernels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1229591 Title: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1229591/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1229591] Re: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade
Just to add that I have today updated my BIOS to the latest available for my laptop (I had A02 and I updated to A06), however the brightness function keys still don't work. So we will have to wait for a fix to be included in a newer kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1229591 Title: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1229591/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1229591] Re: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade
I have exactly the same problem and exactly the same laptop. I would be very very happy to see this fixed at least for 14.04. I have 14.04 installed right now on this laptop but I still have the same problem with the function keys. In case you need to do any tests in 14.04 release, please let me know if I can be of assistance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1229591 Title: 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1229591/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1246583] Re: All hotkeys of LibreOffice don't work in non-English keyboard layout [ubuntu 13.10]
Just to add that this bug does not affect just LibreOffice. I have installed Kingsoft office and I still get the same problem i.e. the hotkeys do not work in a non-English keyboard layout (a Greek keyboard layout in my case). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246583 Title: All hotkeys of LibreOffice don't work in non-English keyboard layout [ubuntu 13.10] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1246583/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 974674] Re: 8086:4229 Unable to connect to 5Ghz Wireless Network Intel 4965
Try this: Open terminal (ctrl+alt+T) and give the following command: sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf In the file that will open, paste inside the following line: options iwl4965 11n_disable=1 Save, exit, reboot and see if that helped. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974674 Title: 8086:4229 Unable to connect to 5Ghz Wireless Network Intel 4965 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/974674/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1160289] Re: Google earth search does not zoom onto a location
Complete workaround based on my above solution: 1. I created a script and named it earth.sh (without the quotes). sudo gedit earth.sh and placed the following lines inside it: #!/bin/bash LANG=en_US google-earth 2. Then I placed said script inside /opt/google/earth/free: sudo cp earth.sh /opt/google/earth/free 3. Then I opened /usr/share/applications/google-earth.desktop: sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/google-earth.desktop and changed the exec command to /opt/google/earth/free/earth.sh. Now google earth opens and the search function works ok even if the language is not US english. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1160289 Title: Google earth search does not zoom onto a location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/googleearth-package/+bug/1160289/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1160289] Re: Google earth search does not zoom onto a location
Forgot to say that I made the script executable. [Bug 1160289] Re: Google earth search does not zoom onto a location
Found a workaround. If I start google earth from terminal like this: LANG=en_US google-earth then the search and zoom function works just fine (and google earth remains in Greek language). Now, all I need to find is how to set google-earth to always start with this parameter.
[Bug 1160289] [NEW] Google earth search does not zoom onto a location
Public bug reported: When my OS is logged in Greek Language, (and so Google Earth is also in Greek), if i use the search box and I find the location I am looking for, when I click on this location, instead of been transfered on this location and get the relative zoom in, I am transefered away from this location, without zoom in, and I can only see it by far. In other words, the search box finds the location but when I click on it, I do not get transfered to it, nor do I get a zoom in. On the contrary, I am transfered away from it. If I use my system in English, then the search function operates as it should, i.e. transfers me to the location and zooms in. My system is ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 64bit. ** Affects: googleearth-package (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1160289 Title: Google earth search does not zoom onto a location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/googleearth-package/+bug/1160289/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
