[Bug 1927832] [NEW] static effect on HDMI out

2021-05-08 Thread magowiz
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 21.04
Release:21.04

package version : kernel-image 5.11.0-16-generic

what I expect to happen : to show my desktop correctly on second hdmi monitor
what happens : static effect like shown in attached photo

Since upgrade to hirsute (21.04) from groovy (20.10) my hdmi port on my
graphic card stopped to work correctly and started to display static
effect on second monitor, as you can see from the attached photo.

Here it is mine videocards:
Code:

$ lspci | grep VGA
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250]
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Park
[Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470]

I was able to test it with 3 different kernels :
Code:

5.12.1-051201-generic # last mainline kernel
5.11.0-16-generic # last official kernel from hirsute
5.8.0-50-generic # probably a old kernel still there from groovy

Only the older one, 5.8.0-50-generic was working correctly with dual
monitor with no issues.

Kind regards

[Bug 1751005] Re: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME

2018-02-28 Thread magowiz
I see, so libreoffice staff generates their own apparmor profiles, thank you
for the explanation.
Here it is the upstream bug report :

I hope I've been clear in explaining the issue.

[Bug 1751005] Re: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME

2018-02-28 Thread magowiz
@Olivier Tilloy (osomon): in response to #47 :

I don't understand, do you mean that the fact that apparmor blocks the opening
of xlsm files (xls with https://fileinfo.com/extension/xlsm) by libreoffice is
a libreoffice upstream bug?
This type of documents can be opened if the libreoffice apparmor rules are
disabled.

There should be something I'm missing.

[Bug 1751005] Re: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME

2018-02-27 Thread magowiz
Ok Christian I tried with an odt, I removed links
/etc/apparmor.d/disable/usr.lib.libreoffice.program.* and I rebooted to
be sure to restore apparmor in previous state.

With odt file I can open it while it is in my home directory, I cannot open it
if it is elsewhere,
so in this case the issue was with xlsm extension.

[Bug 1751005] Re: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME

2018-02-27 Thread magowiz
just to add mine experience :
libreoffice v. 5.4.5-0ubuntu0.17.10.1 ubuntu 17.10

I cannot open files at all, even if they are in /home/${USER}/ , I
copied an xlsm file to ~/ and I cannot open it, disabling apparmor
profile did the trick.

Does the issue came out because I got an encrypted home partition (created
using ubuntu installer)?
$ mount | grep home
/home/.ecryptfs/${USER}/.Private on /home/${USER} type ecryptfs
[...]

If so, all users that have a crypted home partition cannot open
libreoffice documents at all.

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2018-01-02 Thread magowiz
I'm still facing the same issue in ubuntu 17.10, tried mainline kernels.
Is there a way to install fglrx driver ? That is the only one it worked in
these years .
Otherwise please help me to report this bug upstream, since it is present also
on mainline kernels (standard and drm-next ones) providing me the right
references.
As you can imagine, mine interest is to solve the problem, it doesn't matter if
with driver A, B or C, the fact is that since reported, I wasn't able to have
display environment working. Obviously if mine bug report is properly done
upstream, with as much information I can provide, and give possibility to other
linux users to have it resolved, it is better.

2016-09-11 Thread magowiz
Hi Christopher,
I prepared the text I should write reporting upstream and following the
instruction "kernel.org format information" but I didn't understand how and
where I should send this message :

The document you posted points to :
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg=Driver/Radeon
for radeon issues

The preceding mail section points to http://vger.kernel.org/vger-
lists.html but I don't see any dri-devel or any name of person you
mention .

I'm confused, please tell me what I have to do.

If I should write an email please provide me email addresses or a link
where they are listed , otherwise If I should compile a bug report in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg=Driver/Radeon
just tell me the Assignee and cc persons.

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-09-08 Thread magowiz
Hi Christopher,
I tried latest rc from 4.8 mainline series : 4.8-rc5 ,
using these packages :
linux-headers-4.8.0-040800rc5_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_all.deb
linux-headers-4.8.0-040800rc5-generic_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.8.0-040800rc5-generic_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_amd64.deb
from this url :
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8-rc5/

uname -a says I'm running that kernel :
Linux liano 4.8.0-040800rc5-generic #201609041832 SMP Sun Sep 4 22:34:01 UTC
2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

But I still get the same issue I reported initially.

Can we report it upstream ?
Any chances we get back proprietary fglrx driver support on next Ubuntu release
( 16.10 ) ? With that driver at least mine APU was working for graphical
purposes.

Best regards,
magowiz

Christopher, do you mean /var/log/Xorg.0.log since dmesg.log was already
attached or is it better to provide a new dmesg.log ?
And then the regdumps . Am I right?

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-06-12 Thread magowiz
Hi Christopher,
I tried latest mainline kernel : the static issue is back.

I installed theese packages :
linux-headers-4.7.0-040700rc2_4.7.0-040700rc2.201606100641_all.deb
linux-headers-4.7.0-040700rc2-generic_4.7.0-040700rc2.201606100641_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.7.0-040700rc2-generic_4.7.0-040700rc2.201606100641_amd64.deb

and reboot , the uname -a says :
Linux liano 4.7.0-040700rc2-generic #201606100641 SMP Fri Jun 10 10:44:14 UTC
2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Tell me if you need further information or tests and I'll report you
back.

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-06-12 Thread magowiz
Hi Christopher,
thank you for the detailed information and support, I dind't think it could be
a bios issue.
Like you said I updated my MB BIOS firmware to 1069 (last available for my MB)
, the situation changed a bit : instead of static effect, the screen remains
blank.

I really don't know if you can consider this the same problem or another
one, anyway I'll provide you the information you asked and , for now,
not mark this bug as confirmed since it could be also another issue,
different from initial one, I'll wait for your approval to mark this as
confirmed.

Here it is the commands output :
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
1609
01/07/2014

At your disposal if you need further information.

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-06-11 Thread magowiz
Hi Christopher,
I tried like I said with the ubuntu 15.10 amd64 iso , the results of the tests
are almost the same of installed 16.04 :

while installed 16.04 goes static once , then after some seconds it blanks the
screen and returns the static effect (then no moves from then)
the live 15.10 goes static once, then after a while goes blank and then static
twice, after that it disables the screen (my monitor says "no signal") for 2-3
seconds, and finally it goes static for the third time and no moves since then.

I don't think it's a regression but something like : it has the defect
in 15.10, it still has the defect on 16.04.

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-06-06 Thread magowiz
I don't know : I clearly remember that from a version (or more) before I wasn't
able to launch graphical environment without fglrx driver, so since then I
always used fglrx, it was another issue I think, since the screen remained
black and not with static effect, that I see for the first time into 16.04.
Anyway, do you think that booting with Ubuntu 15.10 installation media can
provide you the information you are asking me? If so, let me know and I'll
report you back.

2016-06-03 Thread magowiz
Today I noticed that if I restart X environment using : sudo service
lightdm restart, the static effect goes away and I can log in and use
graphical environment.

Obviously I have to perform lightdm restart on each boot, because on
boot, every time, I get the issue. I don't know if this information is
useful for bug report, please tell me if you need further information
about that, like logs or something else.

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-05-21 Thread magowiz
Hi Joseph
with previous kernel (4.4.0-21-generic ) I have the same issue.
So I tried like you suggested to use a mainline build, using these 3 deb
packages from link you posted :
linux-headers-4.6.0-040600_4.6.0-040600.201605151930_all.deb
linux-headers-4.6.0-040600-generic_4.6.0-040600.201605151930_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.6.0-040600-generic_4.6.0-040600.201605151930_amd64.deb

Also with 4.6.x mainline kernel I can confirm the same behavior as
reported initially.

[Bug 1581799] [NEW] radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-05-14 Thread magowiz
Public bug reported:

Hi,
since upgrade from ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04 I was unable to use mine videocard due
to drop support of fglrx driver (that was working) and due to radeon opensource
driver not working with my VGA.

Mine video card:
$ lspci -nn | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Sumo [Radeon HD 6410D] [1002:9645]

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04

I'll attach further files (dmesg.log , version.log, lspci-vnvn.log) .

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed

** Attachment added: "dmesg.log"

[Bug 1449565] Re: latexila crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_fundamentally_a()

2015-04-28 Thread magowiz
I really don't know it was the one and only time it crashed, probably I
was editing a tex file, cleaning ausiliary files or building a pdf.

Tipically with latexila I do these actions. I'm sorry I cannot give you
further details.

Could you please attach the .odb file that makes it crash?

nevermind, I figured out I didn't commented out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package']

So it didn't land me to bug reporting page. I marked this bug report as
duplicate of the newly reported bug. I hope I did the right thing this
time.

[Bug 1193667] Re: banshee crashes while detecting BPM

2013-06-29 Thread magowiz
I can confirm that now latest version from proposed repository :
- doesn't crash on start anymore
- BPM feature is disabled like this released was supposed to do

So from my point of view this bug is here no longer, as you said it is
now a bug that belongs only to soundtouch.

what does this imply for users ? banshee package 2.6.1-1.1 will be removed from
ubuntu repositories (proposed) ?
Yesterday I tried to do an sudo apt-get upgrade and I still got banshee to
upgrade.

sudo apt-get install banshee=2.6.1-1
Reading package lists... Done

E: Version '2.6.1-1' for 'banshee' was not found

anyway I was able to download it from here :
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/amd64/banshee/2.6.1-1ubuntu1
and I can confirm that downgrading the issue is solved, so I think last version
of banshee (2.6.1-1.1) introduced this bug/regression.

I'm not really sure I was really using that feature, can you tell me
please how can I test if BPM detection is actually working in
banshee-2.6.1-1 ? So I can tell you in a few time which is the
situation with BPM in older version before reverting to something that
doesn't crash but that doesn't actually work.

[Bug 1193667] Re: banshee crashes while detecting BPM

2013-06-23 Thread magowiz
Yes I can confirm what are you saying , when I click detect the button
become inactive and even if I wait a lot I cannot get any result in BPM
field. Anyway I still prefer a version with a minor feature not working
that a version that crashes on each start maybe if I disable
Automatically BPM detect option I can avoid crashes also with latest
version from ubuntu repositories but at this point the change from 1 to
1.1 is ininfluent.

Anyway, obviously I let to ubuntu developers to take their own decision, if
possible the best one is to fix the BPM in a way that doesn't make banshee
crashes.
Thank you for your support.

[Bug 1193667] Re: banshee crashes while detecting BPM

2013-06-22 Thread magowiz
while installing the version you are talking about ( downloaded from here :
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/amd64/banshee/2.6.1-1ubuntu1.1 ) I noticed
that it was the same version I've got installed, maybe the output of dpkg -l
was truncated since the terminal window was little.
Anyway I have to say that the version 2.6.1-1.1 I upgraded to some days ago
introduced this bug. Since before I was using a previous version of banshee
(maybe 2.6.1-1) without any crash.

[Bug 410288] Re: Nautilus does not handle FTP timeouts well

2012-11-05 Thread magowiz
Even worst in 12.10 , I got ftp/sftp timeouts in early phases of transferring a
file . I tried both PCManFM and Nautilus , both of them relies on gvfs to
handle ftp and sftp .
I noticed this timeout while transferring a file from a remote server to local
machine both sftp and ftp protocols, no problems while doing the inverse (local
- server) .

[Bug 902574] [NEW] transgui-3.1+svn607-1ubuntu1 is unable to control transmission daemon 2.44b15

2011-12-10 Thread magowiz
Public bug reported:

Using transgui-3.1 (the stable version in ubuntu repo) I'm unable to
fully interface with transmission daemon 2.44b15, for example if I click
in a zone, the click result is in another zone, this make transgui
really unusable.

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10
transgui package version : 3.1+svn607-1ubuntu1 0

I downloaded transgui-3.2 from precise pangolin official repository and
I can affirm this 2 things :

1) the package installs fine without any further dependencies needed (only
replaces current transgui)
2) the problem with this version is solved.

So I think that this package should be updated to 3.2 also in ubuntu
11.10 .

What do you think ?

that the problem disappeared. I think that apt-cacher-ng needs to be
upgraded also in oneiric.

Oneiric is the last ubuntu stable version, are you telling me that I have to
upgrade to 12.04 ?? For what I know now it's in earlier developing phase and
the pc I'm using is a desktop which I use daily...
Is there a way to upgrade only this single package ?

[Bug 888017] Re: apt-cacher-ng crashes on maint if BAD file found

2011-11-13 Thread magowiz
I encountered the problem again, so I tried to use apport to get crashdumps
like explained on wiki page with this command :
sudo service apport start force_start=1

then I restarted apt-cacher-ng (it was closed by previous crash) and started
scan, it crashed again but I got no apport dialog
then
sudo service apt-cacher-ng status
 * apt-cacher-ng is not running

So what should I do to obtain crashdumps ?

[Bug 888017] [NEW] apt-cacher-ng crashes on maint if BAD file found

2011-11-09 Thread magowiz
Public bug reported:

Every time maintaining function is called (manually on automatically), if
apt-cacher-ng founds BAD file to truncate it crashes and the only way to
continue this phase is to manually remove the bad file (using rm command) and
restart the service.
Otherwise the server is not reachable via web browser.
