[Bug 385995] Re: sometimes tries to edit menu.lst even with GRUB 2

2009-06-17 Thread manishmahabir
I downloaded the daily build on 16thran an update in the live
environmentthen installed alongside my vista.
There is an entry in the grub menu for vista but on selecting it, it says
bootmgr missing.
it was allright when jaunty was installed.
is there anyway to boot into vista successfully from grub itself?

[Bug 396352] [NEW] [karmic]scheduled alarms are lost after ringing once

2009-07-06 Thread manishmahabir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alarm-clock

i had set up 1 alarm for each day of the week to ring in each month.
so i had 7 alarms in the list.

so on subsequent days the alarm rang on the scheduled time, and i used to close
it by closing the dialogue box.
one day alarm did not rang and when i opened alarm-clock window, there were
only one or two alarms listed...
others had simply vanished.
i again set up the alarms and now they again vanish after ringing once.

Thanks Gaute!
has a bug been filed to update the cron package...or should I file one?
as on the cron page...I can see...

cron (3.0pl1-106ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes:
- debian/control: Depend on lsb-base >= 3.2-12ubuntu4
- debian/control: Drop MTA and lockfile-args to Suggests
- pathnames.h: use sensible-editor
  * New Debian release fixes LP: #46649

If it is not the latest, could you point me somewhere I can find the
latest package?

account.connected successfully.
exited.
atarted pidgin from menu.
pidgin again asked to add account as it did on first run. did not save the
earlier saved account information.

2. the behavior you expected, and

i had expected it to save my account information

3 what i did..

went to home directory. view hidden files. .purple directory had a lock on it.
opened nautilus as root.
changed the owner and group of the .purple directory to user.
exit nautilus.
started pidgin again.
prompted to add account as on first run.
entered account...both yahoo and gmailcould connect with yahoo but NOT
gmail.
exited and started again...could connect with both.(was not asked to add
account info...it was saved...as expected.

[Bug 238955] [NEW] Pidgin VNC integration

2008-06-10 Thread manishmahabir
Public bug reported:

It would be very useful if i could ask a person in my pidgin list to
share screen via VNC!

If we are able to provide live help to our friends in such a simple and
easy way, it would play crucial role in convincing our new friends to
adopt something as wonderful as linux.

I have used VNC on my lan to connect to my friend's computer and it is
pretty simple. But if we are behind a router with dynamic ip, things get
complicated.Port forwarding is something which everybody can't do.
Integrating vnc with pidgin with auto configuration of the router will
make things simple and idiot-proof. It's importance and usability can
never be overstated.

I am not asking for something new.Just a better integration of existing
facilities can do wonders!

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2008-10-28 Thread manishmahabir
Hi 'Allen Graham' thanks for your appreciation.
as tuxoid has rightly commented on the brainstorm idea...

"The thing with a Live CD is that it is manual in terms of testing
hardware. The user has to test everything in their system, including,
all USB devices, all Bluetooth devices, advanced video card features, if
needed. Whereas, with an automated testing program, the user can be
assured that every piece of their hardware can be testing thoroughly,
and, unlike a Live CD, the hardware can be tested quickly. If the
program was capable of providing enough information, the user would not
need a Live CD to test.

The matter of a testing utility, is a matter of speeding up the testing
process. "

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2008-10-25 Thread manishmahabir
Today Ubuntu has reached a stage where it can successfully replace windows in
home as well as office desktops.
Actually many people are now switching to ubuntu or are now ready to give it a
try.

As known to linux community, many hardware vendors have kept their
hardware closed source. As a result the open source community has been
unable to provide adequate support for the hardware.

usually the hardware we buy has a logo 'certified for windows vista',
and similarly for xp.people never know whether it is open or closed
hardware or how well the hardware is supported under ubuntu.

i know that there are websites which contain a list of hardware
supported under ubuntu.

it would be nice to have a tool for windows which could gather the data
about the hardware connected to pc (similar to hardware testing in
ubuntu). Based on the data it should generate a friendly report about
the current status of support for the available hardware, specially
graphics card or wireless card.It would help to prevent any post
installation blues.

An additional feature which could suggest the linux counterparts of
installed windows applications would be a killer addition.

It would go a long way in helping average user to switvh to ubuntu!

The matter of a testing utility, is a matter of speeding up the testing
process. "

[Bug 398726] Re: does not run the commands

2009-07-14 Thread manishmahabir
i used another command: 'mpg123 a.mp3' and now it is being executed at the
appropriate time.
i think the issue is resolved...but no idea what was wrong with the previous
command 'totem --play a.mp3' which could be executed from the terminal but not
executed as a cron job ...any suggestions?
