[Bug 1242837] [NEW] package linux-image-3.2.0-54-generic 3.2.0-54.82 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2013-10-21 Thread markd
Public bug reported:

I started by installing ubuntu 10.04 and upgraded to 12.04, the install
was going ok till this point their were no indicators of any issue. I
have tried to run ubuntu-bug linux (apport is not an official ubuntu
package.)

Both of the other commands listed have no affect.
1) cat /proc/version_signature version.log
2) sudo lspci -vnvn lspci-vnvn.log

I cannot uninstall any 3rd party packages as instructed, as the right click
to copy-paste is nothing but squares unreadable.
if this report gets to you, i will try to run the commands on reboot. If it
boots.

[Bug 283583] Re: Intrepid: SCIM Loads On Startup, Won't Close

2008-10-26 Thread MarkD
I had the same problem this morning. After running sudo apt-get upgrade
and rebooting (177 updates including new kernel image) the SCIM icon
appeared for the first time ever in the panel and wouldn't die. In
addition it seemed to disable the use of F12 to activate yakuake. Like
Jeremy, removing SCIM with synaptic solved the problem and yakuake is
working again.

This was under kubuntu intrepid with compiz on x86_64 by the way.

[Bug 280045] Re: CTRl-Alt-Del unusuable in vmware

2008-10-09 Thread MarkD
Hi,

Hope this works for you, I got the following answer on the VMware
community:

Try Ctrl+Alt+Insert or Ctrl+Alt+Prnt_Scrn

The last one worked for me to trigger the login screen for WinXP.

[Bug 280045] Re: CTRl-Alt-Del unusuable in vmware

2008-10-08 Thread MarkD
Hi,

Same problem. Just upgraded to kubuntu 8.10 and VMware-player 2.5.

I want to login to WinXP guest OS and CTRL-ALT-DEL not passed through to
the guest OS so I can't get a login prompt from WinXP. Instead VMware
seems to be interpreting as request to grab focus back to host OS.

Makes it impossible to login to guest OS.

[Bug 157279] Re: [SOLVED] USB PDA not detected since gutsy upgrade

2007-11-08 Thread MarkD
I now have my Axim x51 syncing with an exchange server and WinXP via ActiveSync
running in Vmware-player on a Kubuntu Gutsy host.
The causes of the problem were:

1. The first time I tried to connect the PDA to the machine it failed.
This left the PDA in a state where it would connect to my home windows
PC but was not detected by the vmware host (kubuntu gutsy) machine so it
wouldn't appear in lsusb or lshal. This was only fixed by a soft
reset of the PDA. This seems to be a bug in the Axim.

2. Upgrading from Kubuntu Feisty to Gutsy changed something in the way
the PDA talks to the vmware guest OS over USB. This lead to the problem
of not being able to assign an IP address to the PDA from the WinXP
guest OS. This caused problem (1) above. I don't think this can
necessarily be called a bug, but something changed in either Gutsy or
the vmware-player debs available for Gutsy.

3. The failure to assign an IP problem was solved by Koen (many thanks) above
with
 On PDA : Start-Settings-Connections-USBtoPC-Enable advanced
network functionality -- disable this
But this option was not available on my x51 because I was running an older
version of the Flash ROM (A05) and needed to upgrade to A12 before this option
was available to use. See the instructions at Aximsite.
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x51-forums/131684-a06-a12-step-step.html

Hope this fix helps others in the same boat.

[Bug 157279] Re: USB PDA not detected since gutsy upgrade

2007-11-06 Thread MarkD
Thanks I tried the fix at the link above, but it made no difference. I
am now starting to get error messages in the vmware.log file as follows:

Nov 07 16:07:34.801: vmx| USBGL: open /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-2/maxchild error 2
Nov 07 16:07:34.801: vmx| USBGL: open /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-2/devnum error 2
Nov 07 16:07:34.801: vmx| USBGL: open /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-2/idProduct error 2
Nov 07 16:07:34.801: vmx| USBGL: open /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-2/idVendor error 2
Nov 07 16:07:34.801: vmx| USBGL: open /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-2/speed error 2

every time I connect the Dell. However, these files do exist, e.g.
$ cat /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-2/speed
12

I wonder if this may be a bug related to
http://communities.vmware.com/message/711861
Although I don't get the same error it does occur with the upgrade to same
kernel 2.6.22

Just an update -
Tried connecting to my home PC with my Dell. Connects fine to Windows 2K, but

Hi Koen and thanks.

Unfortunately my Dell is an Axim x51 not x51v so I don't have the
USBtoPC option under Connections. I'm still looking for it elsewhere
just in case.

I can't understand why it was working with feisty but not now with
gutsy.

I'll keep trying.

[Bug 157537] Re: System failed to update - no new resouces available remark: system tried to update but I installed the latest 7.10 from cd just a view minutes before

2007-10-27 Thread MarkD
Same thing happens for me. I upgraded to beta Gutsy. Now the final
version is out, when I upgrade all with adept_manager or adept_updater
it offers me a version upgrade button. Clicking this starts the usual
upgrade util. This gets about half way through and reports no packages
to upgrade and then restores back to initial system state, with the
result that the version upgrade gets offered again.

I presume the problem is because the upgrader doesn't finish, it doesn't
mark the system as running the finished Gutsy.

[Bug 157279] USB PDA not detected since gutsy upgrade

2007-10-25 Thread MarkD
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Kubuntu Gutsy I can no longer sync my PDA (Dell Axim
X51).

Prior to the upgrade (Kubuntu Feisty) - I synced the PDA via Windows XP
running as a guest OS on vmplayer. Since the upgrade the PDA is very
rarely visible to the vmplayer. I can't find any consistent way to get
it to appear, it just appears on a very small number of times I plug it
in.

I therefore tried to access the PDA from Kubuntu, According to lshal, lsusb,
dmesg the pda is not connected.
I tried two solutions I found via google:
1 adding usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs auto 0 0 to /etc/fstab :- no difference
2 sudo udevmonitor -e :- no output on connecting/disconnecting the PDA.

The system is an HP xw4400 workstation with Intel DuoCore 64
$ uname -a
Linux h-mhb-md-kub 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 21:45:15 GMT 2007 x86_64
GNU/Linux

I don't think this is a generic USB problem as my SanDisk USB stick
works fine.

Any help / ideas to try gratefully received.

Mark
