[Bug 1697957] Re: Impress crashes when using smooth fade transition on Gnome based desktop environment
I've tried this on a lenovo thinkpad x230 and the test slides produce a screen-tearing effect (horizontal, jagged, flickering bar of transparency) rather than a smooth transition. [Bug 775124] Re: Ubiquity should have a command line option to override the free space check
I went to install 12.04 on my 4gb netbook. First I had to edit /usr/lib/ubiquity/plugins/misc.py to override the space check, next I ran out of space. Do you know why I ran out of space? because 12.04 automatically partitioned 2GB of swap (i had 2GB of ram). Next attempt I manually partitioned 500MB of swap, and then I was able to install. Still, I was surprised that 12.04 has regressed in that: 1) the bug I reported here 1 year ago to overide the space check was not addressed, and 2) It was not netbook aware in its automatic partitioning. Previous versions of ubuntu installed on a netbook would automatically do 500MB for swap. I guess Ubuntu is linux for "new hardware" (not linux for human beings). As I sidenote, the netbook I bought from dell had ubuntu 9.04 pre-installed on it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775124 Title: Ubiquity should have a command line option to override the free space check To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/775124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 775124] Re: 11.04 requires 4.4GB to install on netbook with 4GB SSD
Actually that idea was thanks to Nathan, see (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772164). I don't mean to take credit for it. Arturo, excellent idea. I just installed it in a VM, so I could see the peak disk space used based on the size of my .vdi file. On the disk, the base install of ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso only takes up 2.2GB, but the .vdi file is 2.6GB (2708508672 bytes), so that was its peak for a base install, no extra packages. I just think its awful for the UI to enforce an arbitrary (and artificially high) limit. The UI says "for best results, have 4.4GB, a connection to the internet, and be plugged into power" (see attached screenshot above), when actually you are completely hindered from proceeding. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775124 Title: 11.04 requires 4.4GB to install on netbook with 4GB SSD -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 670018] [NEW] pasting from crlf file into firefox textarea results in crlfcrlf line endings
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I downloaded a text file with CRLF line endings. Pasted it from gedit/geany (the result is the same) into a firefox textarea (in my case the textarea was at http://pinyintools.zedwood.com/tojavascript ). When you push submit you can see the lines are delimited with \r\n\r\n (crlfcrlf instead of crlf). To confirm it wasn't the server that was doing anything funny I used the firefox tamperdata plug-in and captured the outgoing HTTP POST and looked at it, and it definitely had crlfcrlf. I'll upload a screenshot of that too in a sec. [Bug 652331] Re: terminal window super hard to resize
I think the problem didn't bother me as much in 10.04 because the terminal had a rounded bottom which extended the target click area. I propose an increased target area. For instance: [see attached] there is a bunch of dots arranged in a triangle to hint the user that it is resizable. If we could make the scrollbar end 10-20 pixels north of the bottom right of the window to allow room for a triangle dot icon, it would increase the target click area, and would help a lot for usability. A lot of windows have a status bar at the bottom and the triangle area is actually a part of the status bar, like in gedit and firefox. I know gnome-terminal doesn't have a status bar, but it does help for resize usability in the other programs. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot1.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/652331/+attachment/1659163/+files/Screenshot1.png -- terminal window super hard to resize https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 559415] [NEW] 10.04 beta2 won't boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub The live CD for ubuntu 10.04 beta2 won't boot for me. But if I set a kernel parameter to acpi=off, then the live CD works fine for me (this is not the bug I am reporting, please read the whole thing). Then after I install from the live CD, and it goes to boot for the first time, grub no longer has a 10 second timeout so I can't add acpi=off again. I have to reboot with the live CD as a rescue CD, edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg, add "set timeout=10" at the bottom of it. Then I reboot with the newly installed 10.04 beta2, and during the 10 second timeout, add acpi=off to the boot parameter, and then I can get into 10.04 beta2 just fine. I had this problem in 10.04 beta1 as well. The problem is that 10.04 beta2 won't boot for me on the first boot after installing (because I need to add acpi=off again). If I have added acpi=off in order to get the installer/live cd to come up, there is a 99% I will need it to get the freshly installed system to come up too. Here are some potential solutions: 1. If any extra kernel boot parameters are added during the boot of the installer/live cd, then those kernel boot parameters should be automatically added to the default grub entry of the freshly installed system. 2. If any extra kernel boot parameters are added during the boot of the installer/live cd, then the default grub timeout should be 10 and not 0 on the freshly installed system. 3. Always make the default grub timeout 10. I like option 1 the most and option 3 the least, because that would conflict with fast boot times which is a goal in 10.04. No offense, but marking this as won't fix doesn't address the larger usability issue. The issue that your users expect an application to work a certain way because of the way you presented the interface to them, and it doesn't work that way. There is no point in choosing a Preferred Application, if things like indicator-applet don't respect that decision. If I click on indicator- applet and select 'compose new message' it should ABSOLUTELY launch my default mail client that I chose in the gnome-preferred-applications- properties window. [Bug 504269] [NEW] Amarok corrupts library when data files are temporarily unavailable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amarok My configuration, while not the most common, cannot be too rare. Most of my music files are located on a remote media server, and are NFS mounted to my workstation. If my workstation (and Amorak) are started while the remote box is down, I am unable to access any music files using Amorak. This issue persists even after booting the remote server and remounting the filesystem. At this point, rescanning the collection has no visible action in Amorak. No scanning progress bar appears, and music remains unavailable. This can manifest itself in one of two ways. Sometimes, I am able to at least view the Artist/Album heirarchy, but not any files within them. If this occurs, it persists until a restart of the application, where it switches to the other behavior. That being, no Artist/Album (or file) information is shown at all. Rescanning collection still has no effect on the UI or the storage. furthermore, the only way to correct this issue is to remove ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and rescan everything from scratch. This of course also blows away all information about album covers, etc. This issue is not specific to 2.2.0, I'm just now fed up enough to make a formal bug report for this issue. [Bug 257145] Re: Trying to load some sf2 soundfonts with sfxload or asfxload causes immediate system crash.
I can confirm this bug. Attempting to load either of the two soundfonts supplied by Phil The Dill using asfxload on my SoundBlaster Live! causes an immediate hard system lockup. I am able to load smaller and larger soundfonts and use them successfully. ** Changed in: awesfx (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- Trying to load some sf2 soundfonts with sfxload or asfxload causes immediate system crash. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257145 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also have a dell t3400 workstation. When I come back to the machine after a long time... the screensaver is on... i use a screensaver password when i type it in and push enter... the following things have been known to happen: 1. machine wakes up from screensaver nicely 2. semi-freezes ctrl alt f1... then ctrl alt f7 wakes it up. 3. totally freezes -- dell precision t3400 resume after suspend not working ubuntu 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/468087 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 478547] Re: ubuntu 9.10 won't install on dell dimension e520
Well this is officially your bug. I was appeared to have a similar bug thats all. I solved mine! I used xforcevesa as a boot option on the 'try ubuntu without changing anything' option worked and loaded into a live session. source: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions#Common%20Boot%20Options Look at the boot options... try some... maybe eventually you'll get it working. xforcevesa: "Force X to start using VESA driver. Useful for some notebooks with uncommon video interfaces." So i guess my video card, PCI Express 16X nvidia 256 MB Quadro NVS 290 (DVI output only) has an uncommon video interface. -- ubuntu 9.10 won't install on dell dimension e520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/478547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Looks like the dark brown ubuntu spotlight is called xplash. [Bug 478547] Re: ubuntu 9.10 won't install on dell dimension e520
The freeze happens on the karmic 9.10 amd64 and i386 install CDs... both when you go to install... and when you go into 'try ubuntu without changes'. Boot sequence: 1] Bios 2] Grub 3] glowing ubuntu logo 4] hourglass for a splitsecond 5] dark brown ubuntu spotlight FREEZE. If you remove splash and quiet from you kernel options on boot, it only gives you a debugging info in place of the glowing ubuntu logo, and not in place of the dark brown ubuntu spotlight where it freezes. What i am looking for is debugging info during the dark brown ubuntu spotlight load process. [Bug 478547] Re: ubuntu 9.10 won't install on dell dimension e520
The CPU of the dellT3400 workstation is an Intel Core 2 Duo E4500... there is no onboard VGA on the motherboard, only a PCI (or PCIe? I'll have to look) video card. I tried doing the install with all the F6 kernel options specified: acpi=off noapic nolapic edd=on nodmraid and it still froze at the same point. I just realized there is a kind of a debugging mode on the install cd. When you select 'install ubuntu' a list of kernel boot options shows up near the bottom of the screen. If you backspace the words 'splash' and the 'quiet' then your install process dumps lots of debugging information during the whole process of loading up. I will try this later and report my findings. -- ubuntu 9.10 won't install on dell dimension e520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/478547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 479662] [NEW] muse fails to launch in fresh ubuntustudio install
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: muse I tried to launch MusE from the menu but that failed, so I tried on the command line and got this: $ muse muse: malloc.c:3074: sYSMALLOc: Assertion `(old_top == (((mbinptr) (((char *) &((av)->bins[((1) - 1) * 2])) - __builtin_offsetof (struct malloc_chunk, fd && old_size == 0) || ((unsigned long) (old_size) >= (unsigned long)__builtin_offsetof (struct malloc_chunk, fd_nextsize))+((2 * (sizeof(size_t))) - 1)) & ~((2 * (sizeof(size_t))) - 1))) && ((old_top)->size & 0x1) && ((unsigned long)old_end & pagemask) == 0)' failed. Aborted A quick search showed that a similar problem has been found in Arch linux: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/15466?project=1&order=dateopened&sort=desc&pagenum=8 I tried downloading the source from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93414 and compiled the latest stable version of MusE (1.0RC3), and the resulting executable gave me exactly the same error as above. All this was quite a surprise, as MusE is the midi sequencer installed by default in ubuntustudio and I expected it to just work.
