Specifucally, Win7 service (Cobian backup 11) logged on as local system user cannot create folders in Samba share while I can manually do so and now crashed as well. This used to work perfectly well and suddenly stopped I assume there must have been a Samba update as I did not update Windows/Cobian machine and regularily update Ubuntu/Samba server. The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 28333 (/usr/sbin/smbd). This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault. Public bug reported: Installing Feisty (Herd 5) to IBM T40. 80 GB drive already has Win XP, OS/2 (2 copies), Zenwalk 4.2, Zenwalk 4.4.1. Set up to share swap(sda11) and /home (sda13), / for Feisty to be sda15. Boot and install went ok (a bit slow though). When the bootloader install prompt appeared, skipped and rebooted, modified existing zenwalk Grub menu.lst as below: title Ubuntu root (hd0,14) kernel (hd0,14)/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda15 ro vga=791 initrd (hd0,14)/initrd.img boot Boot started normally, got as far as loading Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision:3.20, then failed. After a long pause, eventually came up with the message that /dev/sda15 does not exist. Tried both with root=/dev/sda15 and also with UUID (both appended to /dev/sda15 and stangalone). Error was the same in all cases: Check root= bootarg cat /proc/cmdline or missing modules, devices: cat /proc/modules ls /dev ALERT! /dev/sda15 does not exist. Dropping to a shell! Reinstalled to a lower partition (sda12). Symptoms are identical - gets to load of Uniform CD-ROM driver, stops.
