[Bug 1055006] Re: Ubuntu 12.10 beta 1 amd64 installer hanging during boot.
I experiment a similar bug, but I can't be sure it's exactly the same. I hope we'll find something to explain and resolve our problems. After testing without any problem the Kubuntu 12.10 beta 2 (amd64 flavor, install with live-usb on a test partition), I try many times after the release to set up Ubuntu 12.10 (in replacement of my old 11.10). Everything I try fails (all with live-usb) : - Ubuntu 12.10 64 - Xubuntu 12.10 64 on messages as stopping save kernel messagesOK or starting CUPS printing spooler/server OK I tried boot options as acpi=off, noapic, nolapic without any amelioration. Finally, I try Ubuntu 12.10 64 server with a minimal config... and it works. But after reboot, when I did a sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop, I got many times the message FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/3.0.0-12-generic/modules.dep: No such file ord directory Amazing if we consider that Quantal uses linux 3.6 After this error, when I rebooted, my install was dead (again). Finally I tried again Ubuntu 11.10 64 which got installed without any problem. And now 12.04.1. But I'd like to understand why I'm damned with 12.10. [Bug 441941] Re: grub fails after running Windows
As reported in bug #551721, I experimented this bug since the 20th of august on my Dell Studio 1558 laptop, just after a Dell update when I was using Windows Seven. But the little difference is the error message. (Each time I recover GRUB using the same method, with a the lucid live USB) Most of time, I got : no module name found Aborted. Press any key to exit. (as in #551721) or sometimes , just a blinking _ I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1 amd64 in dual boot with Seven and the problem is probably caused like other people by Dell Datasafe Local Backup, that I didn't uninstall. @ Colin : you 'll find files requested by Felix attached here. @ Colin (bis) : Bugs #551721 and #482757 are very similar. [Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
Hi! Yesterday, we just had the problem with 2 laptop using Ubuntu Lucid, trying to copy an audio CD. The first (Ubuntu i386) was asking about cdda2wav which was missing, and the second (Ubuntu amd64) reported an internal error and create an empty log. After reading theses comments I tried 2 things ; - I installed the package icedax (#4) - I updated brasero (3 packages, including the runtime) from the proposed repository using 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 (i think it has just been pushed into update today) With theses 2 actions, simple copy of an audio CD works (I didn't make any other test). Performing just one is not sufficient. Burned CD audio are OK but there's still new problem : - info text are burned even if there's no one (and the burning process become longer) - progress bar doesn't work any more. [Bug 309512] Re: Dell Studio 17 (1737), 2 headphones jack do not work in Intrepid 8.10
Hello guys! I've got a fresh install of Ubuntu Intrepid on a Dell Studio 17 (but with a x86-64 kernel) and I experimented the same problem. Following Stefan Bader's explanations, it's finally working : 1. Activation of proposed repositories and installation linux-generic_2.6.27.11.14 (through synaptic, for me... I was afraid of a mistake with aptitude) and its dependences. (reboot... don't know if it's necessary) 2. Download and installation of linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic_2.6.27-11.23smb5_i386 from Stefan's PPA, using dpkg -i. 3. Inactivation of proposed repositories and reboot on 2.6.27-11 kernel. The headphone jacks are OK. So I shared a music directory on a partition between Ubuntu and XP. For each sub-directory, Windows creates an hidden (for XP) file Thumbs.db (a kind of thumbnail, I suppose). At each synchronization of the music directory, Rhythmbox notices me a warning for each thumbs.db because it can't recognize their MIME type: Le type MIME du fichier n'a pu être reconnu in french... Something like : MIME type hasn't be recognized in English. The same warnings are given for text files (*.txt in Windows) and Itunes files (*.itl *.itdb in Windows). It causes no problem for using Rhythmbox, but I think a lot of newbies could find it frightening to got so many warnings. These errors couldn't be ignored? Finally, real import errors are flooded under many useless warnings. Same configuration same problem! Xubuntu Gutsy, brasero 0.6.1-0ubuntu1 I can't burn my list of FLAC files (note: I've installed gstreamer0.10 -plugins-good). After adding my files I can read : 1h13min50 / 1h20 in TOSHIBA DVD-ROM... (so, my 700 MB empty CD is welle recognized). In the statebar (the bottombar... i don't say the good english word), you can read 25 selectioned files (1h13min44). I push on Graver (Burn if you prefer ;-) ) With defaults options : (no multisession, maximum speed, without copying image on HDD, with burnproof, ejecting after burn, no simulation) A window appear with Gravure du CD - Gravure d'un CD audio : recherche de la taille. Something as Burning the audio CD: looking for the size. Cd is ejected and i get this notice: Attente de remplacement du disque - La capacité du disque dans le lecteur « TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2312 » n'est pas suffisante : remplacez le disque par un CD enregistrable avec au moins 744 Mio d'espace libre. And, that's interesting : burning the list which has duration of 1h09min08s, it swows, during the process, a targeted capacity of 696 MiB. And an audio CD of 74 min needs 650 MiB of empty space.
