[Bug 495127] Re: Shutdown/restart dialogs make it unclear whether people should wait

2010-02-16 Thread maxauthority
Why not just skip that dialog at all (unless triggered automatically)?
Even Windows7 changed their shutdown button to just shutdown instantly.
The first time, it's unusual, since you are used to annoying "Do you
really..." questions by Microsoft, but after the first time, you just
love it, and it's actually one of the most remarkable features of
Windows7 which I remember.

So now, even Microsoft stops showing useless "Do you really want to ..."
dialogs, but we (Linux world) insist on having them?

[Bug 396489] Re: gdm 2.26 Unable to log out with autologin enabled

2009-11-29 Thread maxauthority
@Tom: I am also on a single-user machine, but was biten by this bug.
E.g. I just wanted to logout and choose a different session (KDE,
Fluxbox, ...), and that's impossible if you get re-logined immediately.

I tried to compile latest CVS, and it has severe problems (=not working)
on a 64bit machine.

Just to inform you, that to go upstream, probably lots of cleanup should
happen (i saw the code comparing ints with pointers and such).

[Bug 319378] Re: [ath9k] Kernel panic in 2.6.27-11

2009-06-11 Thread maxauthority
With default ubuntu 9.04 I still had hangs, when upgrading to backport-
modules (which basically is compat-wireless from end of March) they went
away.

Sidenote: I still had random re-/disconnects though with my card, which
I just could not accept anymore, as it drove me nuts ;) (no offense, I
am not paying for Ubuntu/Linux, and all devs really do great things
fixing the bugs!), so i just bought another draft-n usb stick (some with
a RaLink chip, rt2870sta driver), that one works great, even with N
speeds which somehow i could not get with my atheros PCI card.

Also using backport-modules on jaunty. Seems, the problem is when

talks a lot about this bug, and i think changing tha timeout from 2 to
10 seconds as a workaround might be a good interims solution, until a
proper fix lands in the wireless-git tree.
