[Bug 1393744] Re: 1814:0301 RT2x00/rt61pci disconnects since update to 15.04

2015-06-11 Thread mhotze
Update: did some regression testing;
- fallback to 3.14 kernel but using same version of network-manager and wifi
drivers did not solve the issue
- removed network-manager package, and used netctl for managing wifi, and the
problem is gone

[Bug 1393744] Re: 1814:0301 RT2x00/rt61pci disconnects since update to 15.04

2015-06-09 Thread mhotze
Having the same issue here as well (although I'm on Arch with 3.16
kernel). Interestingly, on the same computer running Mint (3.13 kernel),
there is no issue. With 3.16 kernel, RT61PCI works for some minutes,
then disconnects, and unable to reconnect again.

Note: both distro's use version 2.3.0 of RT61PCI.

dmesg on 3.16 kernel:
ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00queue_flush_queue: Warning - Queue 0 failed to flush

[Bug 202391] Re: Cannot view AVM2 flash enabled pages

2012-04-14 Thread mhotze
Because of the fallback issues, people might be looking for a solution
here to play all Flash content in Ubuntu Firefox (I did):

1) Open Ubuntu Software Center (or Synaptic) , search for ¨Flash¨
2) Remove all Flash related software (Gnash SWF Viewer, Lightspark, Adobe Flash
Plugin, etc)
3) Only install ¨Adobe Flash Plugin¨
4) Restart Firefox

[Bug 815380] [NEW] Firefox does not remember scroll position

2011-07-24 Thread mhotze
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Release: 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx
Firefox Package: 3.6.18+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.2

To reproduce:
1) Use Google search, and type in a search term
2) Scroll down to bottom of page with the search results
3) Click last search result
4) Go back to search results

Expected to happen: You're returning to the search results page on the scroll
position you left it.
Happened instead: You're returning to the top of the search results page
instead, so you'll have to scroll back down again.

This is a problem that makes it clumsy to browse. Click link, go back,
scroll back down, repeat etc.

[Bug 677925] Re: .desktop file is missing, thus doesn't appear in applications menu

2011-07-14 Thread mhotze
Attached the qcad.desktop file from Natty. For 10.04 users:
1) copy this file to your desktop
2) in a terminal. type:

[Bug 197548] Re: nvtv cannot find a supported video card

2010-10-09 Thread mhotze
FAQ file in /usr/share/doc/nvtv says: "The GeForce4 MX, GeForce4 GO and
GeForce4 MX GPU cards sometimes use an internal TV encoder chip (which
shows up as 'NVIDIA', 'NV17' or 'NV18' as the name of the TV encoder in
the XFree log). This encoder is not supported at all by nvtv yet, and
without the hardware it's impossible to figure out how to do it."

Since the Xorg.0.log says "(--) NVIDIA(0): TV encoder: NVIDIA", it's
basically it's no use installing nvtv: the NVidia card is unsupported.
Please note there has been no activity of NVTV since April 2008.

[Bug 540827] Re: ar9170usb wifi module crash + instabile connection

2010-10-08 Thread mhotze
Affects me too. For our Googling community trying to find out why
streaming is so bad, it took a while for me to find this one. I had
problems with Flash on Ubuntu 10.04: erratic playing of live streaming
video (e.g. Justin.tv, livestation, freetv, delicast, etc). Sometimes
video even stops, and occasionally, wireless was not connected anymore
to my router. I did not have these problem on another computer with a
wired connection (and same Ubuntu version). This got me finally on track
and lead to this bug report.

This is how I fixed it:
1) edit the file /etc/network/interfaces (you need root access, e.g. open a
terminal and enter "sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces")
2) add the following lines to this file (in this case I use WPA encryption):
  auto eth1
  iface eth1 inet dhcp
  wpa-ssid YOUR_NETWORK_NAME
  wpa-passphrase YOUR_NETWORK_KEY
3) prevent network manager from starting up by un-checking it from System >
Preferences > Startup Applications.
4) reboot your system

No erratic networking (and flash) for me anymore.

If this happens to you as well, please let the Ubuntu team know by
saying "affects me too" at the beginning of this page.

[Bug 384463] Re: Does not show up in applications menu (XUbuntu)

2010-09-19 Thread mhotze
Vino has some dependencies with GNOME components, but seems to run fine
on XUbuntu when installing out of the box. The only issue is the file
/usr/share/applications/vino-preferences.desktop, as described above,
which is provided by Vino right?

At the other hand, if Vino is not meant to be used on XUbuntu systems,
which run per default on XFCE iso GNOME, then why provide it for
XUbuntu?

[Bug 616670] Re: Flashplugin-nonfree fails: downloads non-existing plugin

2010-08-12 Thread mhotze
Issue is caused by an older version of Flashplugin-nonfree; the original
plugin that would have been downloaded is removed from the server at
Canonical, and the newer version installed.

Workaround: press "Reload" in Synaptic, or issue the command "sudo apt-
get update", then re-install both Flashplugin-nonfree and Flashplugin-
installer. This newer version downloads the correct Flash plugin from
Canonical.

[Bug 615247] [NEW] Firefox memory issue with new Google Images

2010-08-09 Thread mhotze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox 3.6.8; Ubuntu 10.04, fresh install (as well as previous Ubuntu
version).

With the new Google Images, see http://www.google.com/imghp, browsing a
while searching for images, the amount of memory used steadily
increases. My system becomes very slow (unusable) after all memory is
consumed. Memory can only be released by closing Firefox again. Not sure
how to test what specifically causes this (Firefox, Java, etc). Note: I
did not yet install Flash plugins yet.

[Bug 455412] Re: bad rendering of floating box in firefox

2010-01-07 Thread mhotze
I installed an ATI Rage 128 Pro Ultra, and no rendering error (I had the
problem with an NVidia GeForce FX 5500). That is, the rendering error of
the mousewheel only lasts for one "frame" with the ATI, but does not
stay on the screen like in the screenshot of comment #7 with the NVidia.
Maybe the problem is not with Firefox, but with /etc/X11/xorg.conf, or
with the driver used?

[Bug 384463] [NEW] Does not show up in applications menu (XUbuntu)

2009-06-07 Thread mhotze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vino

2.26.1-0ubuntu1 (jaunty)
/usr/share/applications/vino-preferences.desktop :

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Remote Desktop
Comment=Choose how other users can remotely view your desktop
Exec=vino-preferences
Icon=preferences-desktop-remote-desktop
Terminal=false
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true

X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Product=vino
X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Component=Preferences Dialog
X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Version=2.26.1
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=vino

It's probably caused by the "OnlyShowIn=GNOME;" phrase, because XUbuntu
uses Xfce.

When it's commented out by a "#", it shows up.

[Bug 184583] Re: Bluefish does not save command line options for external programs

2008-11-29 Thread mhotze
It is still there in 8.10 with Bluefish 1.0.7. I've removed Bluefish,
manually removed the config file from my home directory, and re-
installed Bluefish. Deleted all application references except the
Mozilla one (which still looks incorrect to me). Open an existing html
(e.g. index.html) file in Bluefish, and output in Mozilla first time
when Mozilla is not open yet:

! File Not Found
Firefox can't find the file at /media/hda3/html/New.
* Could the item have been renamed, removed, or relocated?
* Is there a spelling, capitalization, or other typographical error in the
address?
* Do you have sufficient access permissions to the requested item?

It also needs the to be pressed before hitting or
to change the settings.

I looks like the issue has not yet been confirmed and this may be the
reason it's not fixed yet. Is this issue as reproducible on the
maintainer's side of this application?

[Bug 182251] Re: Amaya does not remove icons from applications menu after package removal

2008-11-29 Thread mhotze
I removed Amaya a while ago, and now I also manually removed the icon
with the "Main Menu" application, and installed Amaya in Ubuntu 8.10
again.

Issue is now that there is no Amaya icon present anywhere after
installation. I figured that it may be because this package does not
comply to http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/menu-spec .
When applications do, this turns out to be working for so far in Ubuntu,
as well as XUbuntu.

[Bug 303199] Re: virtualbox-ose-modules broken AGAIN

2008-11-29 Thread mhotze
Hi Daniel,

Would it be an idea to make a *second* VirtualBox-OSE-Modules-Generic
version, which does have the dependency set to the kernel modules? In
that case the users can chose between either being in-dependent of
Virtualbox and install the latest kernel once it's available (as it is
now, but with the downside of "breaking"), or being dependent of
Virtualbox (but with the downside of having to wait for the new kernel
until the Virtualbox modules are updated)? Personally I would chose for
the second option, once it's available. For systems more vulnerable, the
first option would be preferred (default?) I guess.

Keep up the good work anyhow!

[Bug 276731] Re: missing dependencies

2008-11-21 Thread mhotze
Alo here. Trying to install Netbeans Using Add/Remove, but did not work
due to unresolved dependencies. It suggests to use Synaptic. In
Synaptic, following message is displayed:

"Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade. "

"The following packages have unresolved dependencies. Make sure that all
required repositories are added and enabled in the preferences"

"netbeans:
Depends: libnb-apisupport1-java but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libnb-ide8-java but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libnb-java1-java but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libnb-platform7-java but it is not going to be installed"

Having Netbeans mentioned in the Add/Remove application suggests it
matches the standard Ubuntu repositories, but that may not be the case.

Similar problem here. Only when the window is moved, the video output is
shown briefly on the screen. Otherwise, only output is a black window.

I use the open source NVidia driver.

Found out the problem was introduced by enabling "window compositing" in
the XFce "Settings Manager" under "Window Manager Tweaks" in the
"Compositor" tab. So disabling it solved the problem.

[Bug 184583] Re: Bluefish does not save command line options for external programs

2008-01-23 Thread mhotze
Found out that default command line options "mozilla -remote
'openURL(%s, new-window)' || mozilla %s&" causes problems when Mozilla
has not been opened yet. Mozilla then mentions an error message like
"Firefox can't find the file at /media/hda3/html/New.", while the file
being worked on is called "index.html". Same behavior occurs when the
command line is changed to "mozilla %s". It was fixed by changing it to
"mozilla '%s'". This suggest more quotes might be needed in the default
command line as well?

So issue circumvented by changing command line to "mozilla '%s'" and
hitting before hitting or .

[Bug 184583] Bluefish does not save command line options for external programs

2008-01-20 Thread mhotze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluefish

#1 Bluefish does not store the changes to the command line options after
pressing the "Apply" or "Ok" button (with the mouse pointer). This happened
when attempting to edit the command line options in the preferences menu
because Mozilla opens with an error message that the filename "New" does not
exist when Mozilla opens first time (this might be another bug).
#2 After deleting all browser lines, and adding a new one called "Mozilla", the
command line options just entered disappear when the "Apply" button is pressed.
And of course here as well, the command line options entered are not stored
either when pressing the "Ok" button. Trying to edit the line by exiting
Bluefish and opening Bluefish again does not help either.
This is happening in Bluefish 1.07 running under Gutsy.

[Bug 182251] Amaya does not remove icons from applications menu after package removal

2008-01-12 Thread mhotze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amaya

Amaya and Amaya9.54 icons stay in "Applications - Internet" and
"Applications - Programming" menu after I removed the Amaya package.
It's also strange two icons are left. I think first mentioned icon was
not removed in the previous Ubuntu release when I removed Amaya there,
but now a new icon appeared called Amaya9.54 when I installed Amaya in
Gutsy. Both of them are not removed.

** Affects: amaya (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 179517] Re: Rendering errors in text editor

2008-01-01 Thread mhotze
Yes, I'm using Compiz, but have not seen these errors so far in other
editors. I'm now using Bluefish to edit my html for instance.
