[Bug 2083521] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04.5 installation issues

2024-10-02 Thread Michael Madden
Public bug reported:

We'using the autoinstall feature to install Ubuntu on our laptops. In
the user-data file, we're mounting a partition that contains a lot of
our configuration. On Ubuntu 22.04.4 images, it works fine. On 22.04.5,
this mount command seems to be failing silent and the configuration
files are not available for the remaining setup steps.

We've been working through the issue with support case 00396292. It was
suggested to open a new bug here.

This minimal yaml replicates the issue.

[Bug 2082337] [NEW] Attempt at release upgrade failed with no obvious reasons given.

2024-09-26 Thread Michael Tiernan
Public bug reported:

Details "It go boom isn't enough?" ;)

Release info:
 # lsb_release -rd
 Description:Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
 Release:22.04

The package version, I'm not 100% sure of since I'm not sure of what
package was triggering the issue.

Okay, I attempted to update my system to the newest release. I ran the
tool to perform the update and got the screen(s) attached. I checked the
logs and while there seems to be valid information there, I'm not wise
enough to suss out exactly what the problem is and/or the solution might
be.

Instead of mucking it up, I'm leaving it to the experts. I'll provide
you with any info you need/want to help this along.

Our existing MTL driver handling is also sufficient to handle ARL, so

[Bug 2081566] [NEW] Cannot create symbolic link with the mouse

2024-09-21 Thread Michael Satke
Public bug reported:

Up until recently it was possible to create symbolic links in the GUI
with "Files" by performing a drag and drop operation with CTRL and SHIFT
pressed (or was it CTRL+ALT+SHIFT?) between two Nautilus windows or
tabs.

Now I can only move or copy files and directories. I tried several key
combinations, and the center button/mouse wheel, too. Neither of them
worked. So I have to create symlinks in the terminal to work around
this.

[Bug 2079038] Re: [VROC] [Ub 24.04.0/1] Kernel bug and reboot hang during recovery - missing patch

2024-09-17 Thread Michael Reed
Bun and Kinga,

I need you to identify the exact patches with patch ID's from upstream needed
from 6.11 to even consider this. Once I see those and if it doesn't take a
major effort to backport them to 6.8 then we can consider it. Otherwise you
may have to use the hwe kernel when it reaches 6.11. Lets start with the exact
patch set in addition the fix you already identified.

[Bug 2080874] [NEW] Could not calculate the upgrade

2024-09-16 Thread Michael Brown
Public bug reported:

I'm not entirely sure why the upgrade did not work. The only information
that I was given was that it "could not calculate the upgrade". I don't
know if that's the space available or size of the upgrade or it's impact
on the my system. I am running a dual boot system, if that matters.

[Bug 2080669] Re: When in full screen mode local apps such as telegram can steal keyboard input.

2024-09-13 Thread Michael Joyner
Thinking about this for a bit, couldn't this be used by a malicious
local program to steal key presses that are only meant for the remote
desktop session? And if entering text into a non-echoing password
prompt, you wouldn't know?

Not sure if it is related or not. I have a name server VM that was
running dnsmasq on 22.04.4. Upgraded it today with "do-release-upgrade
-d" (impatient) to 24.04.1. Upgrade went fine except that dnsmasq could
not start because something had triggered starting systemd.resolved ...
and of course I had no name resolution on my network.

[Bug 2070598] Re: This package implicitly conflicts with libnvidia-gl-*

2024-09-07 Thread Michael Gruberbauer
I can confirm this. To check further, I used dpkg-divert to rename this
file for the libnvidia-gl-550 package but when I then tried to
reinstall, apt complained that

/usr/share/egl/egl_external_platform.d/15_nvidia_gbm.json

Is duplicated as well. At this point I stopped and reverted my
diversion.

[Bug 2079855] [NEW] Add a ARM64 16k page size kernel package build

[Bug 2079184] [NEW] Find and replace dialog does not take focus after user action

2024-09-05 Thread Michael Everett Rule
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
Version: Gummi 0.8.1
Package: 0.8.1-1build1

If the find-and-replace dialog is not visible, pressing control+F will
open it and shift focus to this dialog. However, if the find-and-replace
dialog is already open, then control+F does not switch focus and (as far
as I can tell) there is no documented keyboard shortcut to switch focus.
This inconsistant focus behavior can lead to unwanted text destined for
the search box to be typed into latex source code. It is particularly
problematic when the find dialog has opened on a different monitor or
become hidden. It can require attention and switching between keyboard
and mouse to resolve.

Expected: control+F to find always shifts focus to the first text box in the
find-and-replace dialog.
Actual: control+F to find has inconsistent focus behavior.

[Bug 2076675] Re: [SRU][HPE 24.04] Intel FVL NIC FW flash fails with inbox driver, causing driver not detected

2024-09-05 Thread Michael Reed
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  Description of problem:

Within 24.04 an intel FVL Idea adapter flash fails through a FW smart
component RPM install. The flash successfully completes on the
firmware(NVM) and fails on the firmware(ROM). The process takes roughly
  thirty minutes and still fails.

Following this the NIC will not be recognized by the OS or RBSU until
  the next power cycle.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

  Kernel 6.8.0-38-generic

  How reproducible:

  100% of the time

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Attempt to upgrade NIC (Intel Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X710-DA2
was used in my case) using upgrade located at
https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/softwaredetails?language=en_US&collectionId=MTX-eeaaff922a754e17
  2. Wait 30 minutes for upgrade to fail
  3. Observe that NIC is no longer recognized
  4. AC Power Cycle to bring the NIC back up

  Actual results:

Upgrade fails and system requires a power cycle to use NIC again.

  Expected results:

  Upgrade succeeds

  [Fix]
  Additional info:

There is an upstream patch from Intel that remediates this issue, where
the NIC successfully upgrades in a reasonable amount of time.

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net.git/commit/?id=8b9b59e27aa88ba133fbac85def3f8be67f2d5a8

I have patched the kernel, 6.8.0-38-generic, with the patch above and
  observed success.

  [Test Plan]
  Steps to Reproduce:

[Bug 2078675] Re: Unable to upgrade to 24.04.01 because of postgres

2024-09-02 Thread michael masterson
Well, of *course* it's easy to blow someone off, especially if you don't
stop to look at anything. so thanks for that.

My version of postgres that I attempted to install didn't come from a
PPA, I had to uninstall postgres-16 and postgres-16-ciient, in order to
make the upgrade go. (which I did).

Then the upgrade was broken, (it didn't install all the kernel parts)
(on two systems). I fixed that.

THEN, without enabling any PPAs, I attempted to install postgres.

Remember, PPAs are turned off during the upgrade, yes?

Didn't work.

Thanks for everything.

[Bug 2078675] [NEW] Unable to upgrade to 24.04.01 because of postgres

2024-09-02 Thread michael masterson
Public bug reported:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

The package 'postgresql-16' is marked for removal but it is in the
removal deny list.

To prevent data loss, postgresql packages are not removed
automatically during the upgrade. If you are certain you no longer
need postgresql-16, you can manually remove it and try the upgrade
again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

Removing postgres and doing the upgrade results in not being able to re-install
postgres, because of unmet dependencies.

[Bug 2077495] [NEW] ubuntu-core-installer requires a newer subiquity on noble

2024-08-20 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

As mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/noble/+source/livecd-
rootfs/+bug/2076307 there is a request to backport the ubuntu-core-
installer project to noble. It turns out that the subiquity that is
included by default on noble images is too old to support installing
core. Rather than updating subiquity on all images this close to the
point release, it seems safer to just override the subiquity channel for
this build.

[test plan]
We should build a livefs with a command like:

$ start-livefs-build --livefs=~mwhudson/+livefs/ubuntu/noble/test
--arch=amd64 --pocket proposed --project ubuntu-core-installer

build the results into an ISO and test them.

[regression potential]
The proposed change

clearly does not affect the build of any other project so at worst,
ubuntu-core-installer builds continue to be broken in some way.

[Bug 2077459] [NEW] gdm-settings mostly ignored after recent updates

2024-08-20 Thread Michael Crider
Public bug reported:

I ran gdm-settings on a clean Ubuntu 24.04 install earlier this year and
changed 3 settings from the default:
1. set a background image
2. changed the time in the top bar to AM/PM
3. disabled the user list
After running updates and rebooting last week I noticed the background image
was gone. I ran gdm-settings and verified that all 3 settings were still set
the way I wanted. I hit apply and then rebooted. The background was back, but
the time was in 24h (I didn't really pay attention to if it was right or wrong
before) and the user list was showing. I have run gdm-settings numerous times
since then, but nothing I change will reflect on the gdm screen.
Looking at apt history log, I'm guessing it might be caused by one of:
gnome-initial-setup:amd64 (46.0-1ubuntu6, 46.2-1ubuntu0.24.04.1)
gnome-shell:amd64 (46.0-0ubuntu5.1, 46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.3)
gnome-shell-common:amd64 (46.0-0ubuntu5.1, 46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.3)
gnome-shell-extension-prefs:amd64 (46.0-0ubuntu5.1, 46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.3)

Can’t add the logs now (and would prefer not to as that utility collects
far too much data for me to review manually). But the way I was
suspending was systemctl suspend. Glad you could reproduce.

[Bug 2076307] Re: backport ubuntu-core-installer code to noble

2024-08-12 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I built a livefs
(https://launchpad.net/~mwhudson/+livefs/ubuntu/noble/test/+build/667772)
and it built fine. I made it into an ISO and that revealed that we need
some subiquity changes in the ubuntu/noble branch as well but that's not
a problem with the livecd-rootfs changes.

I also built a desktop
(https://launchpad.net/~mwhudson/+livefs/ubuntu/noble/test/+build/668142)
and server
(https://launchpad.net/~mwhudson/+livefs/ubuntu/noble/test/+build/668143)
livefs. The server build failed but that is true for the current livecd-
rootfs in updates as well -- so I think this is verified enough.

[Bug 2076307] Re: backport ubuntu-core-installer code to noble

2024-08-11 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
** Description changed:

I added code in oracular to build an installer for UC24. We would like
to (slightly) productionize this installer and so building on a noble
  base would be better.

  [test plan]
We should build a livefs with a command like:

- $ start-livefs-build --livefs=~mwhudson/+livefs/ubuntu/oracular/test
+ $ start-livefs-build --livefs=~mwhudson/+livefs/ubuntu/noble/test
  --arch=amd64 --pocket proposed --project ubuntu-core-installer

  [regression potential]
looking at the change that has already been merged to git:

  https://git.launchpad.net/livecd-
  rootfs/commit/?id=0df4234c281a1496269740422f22d5306ec12edc

It is clear that the risk of compromising other builds is negligible and
indeed the same code did not when landed in devel. The ubuntu-core-
installer project also builds successfully on oracular and should build
fine in noble too -- but that would not be a regression!

2024-08-08 Thread Michael Reed
This cherry pick will cover noble and oracular. Backporting this from
6.10 to 5.15 is not feasible for the Jammy kernel. Also this will be
in the 6.8 kernel in 22.04.5.

[Bug 2072956] Re: [SRU] Build preinstalled image for PIC64GX Curiosity Kit

2024-08-07 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I don't think it's necessary to block this until the build for newly
added subarch support succeeds, it's enough to be confident that it
doesn't regress any current builds I think? (speaking somewhat biasedly
as someone wanting to get a change that is on top of this one into
noble-updates)

[Bug 2076307] [NEW] backport ubnutu-core-installer code to noble

2024-08-07 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

I added code in oracular to build an installer for UC24. We would like
to (slightly) productionize this installer and so building on a noble
base would be better.

[test plan]
We should build a livefs with a command like:

$ start-livefs-build --livefs=~mwhudson/+livefs/ubuntu/oracular/test
--arch=amd64 --pocket proposed --project ubuntu-core-installer

[regression potential]
looking at the change that has already been merged to git:

https://git.launchpad.net/livecd-
rootfs/commit/?id=0df4234c281a1496269740422f22d5306ec12edc

It is clear that the risk of compromising other builds is negligible and
indeed the same code did not when landed in devel. The ubuntu-core-
installer project also builds successfully on oracular and should build
fine in noble too -- but that would not be a regression!

[Bug 2073583] Re: [SRU][22.04.5]: mpi3mr driver update

2024-07-25 Thread Michael Reed
Hi Ranjan,

1: What kernel version you want this to land in. 22.04.5 has two different
kernel versions.
[Ranjan] : It should be included in both LTS and HWE

Just to clarify, when 22.04.5 is released the kernel version will bump
up to 6.8. Are you requesting that the 5.15 kernel is patched also? I
ask this because I did a preliminary cherry-pick of two patches to 5.15
and they did not pick cleanly.

2: I already patched and built noble and oracular and those test
kernels are ready to be tested.
