[Bug 270206] Re: Rhythmbox should never start minimised to tray

2012-11-29 Thread michealPW
Oh my, what a bad workaround. I totaly understand that this behavior is
confusing for some people and admittedly it confused my wife (Until I
explained the feature and showed her how to disable it.)

This bug solution only creates yet another problem... Now _nobody_ can
start RB minimized, including all the people who actually liked this
_feature_ (It's not a bug, it's by design and many people liked this
behavior.)

Couldn't we just set this feature to be disabled by default that could
be if the user wanted to, rather than breaking the feature all together?

This bug's solution is the cause of this unanswerable question:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/125224/how-do-i-hide-rhythmbox-to-just-
show-a-tray-icon

Also countless other Google results if you search for How do I start
Rhythmbox minimized? || How do I start Rhythmbox in
quiet/silent/hidden mode?

[Bug 268434] Re: Screen Resolution is not being restored after relogin

2012-09-18 Thread michealPW
Hey everyone.

I've recently installed KUbuntu v12.04 (KDE v4.8.4) and experienced
similiar issues with the Display and Monitor.

Here's what I've found in my testing/research. First, the Display and
Monitor KCM can be used to generate an ~/.kde/share/config/.krandrrc
file which is used to save your resolution/refresh rate settings.

The trick is, this file is NOT created when you click Apply, you must
click Save as default after clicking Apply to generate this file.

Since Xorg no longer uses an xorg.conf by default, there's really no
other way for the system to persist resolution/rate changes except in
the .krandrrc script (Generated by the Save as default button in the
Display and Monitor KCM.)

I've read all the bug-report submissions and all the reproduction
methods skip this button. They set their resolution, click Apply and
then observe the new resolution change. They restart and then observe
the old resolution... The problem, I think I've found, is we're not
clicking Save as default after clicking Apply

I think a logical solution is to have the Apply button's handler
function also call the handler function for Save as default which will
eliminate this unexpected behavior for all new KDE users.

Thanks for your time.

[Bug 48489] Re: Pppoe support in Kernel 2.6

2008-11-11 Thread michealPW
I think this error is a false positive, I mean, I'm also getting it
whilst running Ubuntu v8.04.1, pppd v2.4.4 with the 2.6.24-21-generic
Kernel.

The problem, I think, is a permissions issue. Not long ago, I
accidentally ran chown (Recursively) on my /usr directory, hehe, not
realizing the gravity of it's affect...

Anyways, I think this is a left-over of that mistake. Perhaps, a binary
related to PPPoE is not setuid or setgid properly?

P.s: I work around this issue by using sudo in a user account who's a
member of admin (Or, is it adm?)

Sorry for posting to such an old thread, but thought I'd add some info.
