I tried the upstream version, and it doesn't work well for cable in
France

we have transponders like 762,375mhz we can scan in step of 125hz

so this tool doesn't do what it should, and find all transponders

[Bug 69876] radeon 9600 pro broken dri acceleration with fglrx (asking how to integrate the fix to main)

2006-11-02 Thread mirak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic

Hi,
No matter what I do, the fglrx module doesn't enable DRI and 3d acceleration,
or a broken one at least, without rebuilding a kernel and disabling the module
ATI Radeon. I did that for Dapper and it worked.

I found this fix on google from a gentoo user :
http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:c80xQyXXpXUJ:www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/Hardware/Making_ATI_drivers_work_with_nforce2_and_kernel_2_6_in_Gentoo+gentoo+nforce+2+9600+pro&hl=fr&ct=clnk&cd=3&client=firefox

*
*
Making your Radeon 9600 PRO work with Nforce2 and kernel 2.6(Gentoo)

I realize there are many guides out there, however none really worked
for me. I figured I'd write this so that others may benefit from my long
tired hours in front of the screen, leering back at me.

Lets begin:
The first thing you need to do is make sure your kernel is configured
correctly. If not, you'll have to recompile over again, however using gentoo
this should not be much of a challenge :)

#cd /usr/src/linux
#make menuconfig

Now make sure the following are enabled:

Device drivers>Character devices:
(M)AGP support(agpgart)
(M)nforce2 chipset support
(*)direct rendering manager (drm)
- (*) ATI radeon

but NOT support for ATI radeon!(Strange as it may sound)

If they are continue, if not, recompile your kernel.(If you can't
remember how it is done, refer to the excellent installation handbook at
gentoo.org)

Now you need to enable the new modules so you'll need to edit your
modules autoload:

#nano /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6

then write in: (from the top)
agpgart
nvidia-agp
radeon

*
*

Using Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no" should in theory resolve most
problems, but for radeon 9600 pro the problem seems somewhere else.

I am not sure this problem only happen when you use nforce2+ radeon
9600 pro, but I found on google a lot of person who had this problem
with 9600 pro.

So I am wondering how this bug could be fixed without users having to rebuild a
kernel+fglrx modules.
I believe asking to have a special kernel in main is a bit to much :p

2006-11-03 Thread mirak
In fact it works, I needed to disable composite extension in plus.

However I still can't make work the DRI of fglrx with the edgy 2.6.17-10 kernel.
This module /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/char/drm/radeon.ko
really needs to not be built into the kernel.

Maybe there is another way to fix that and prevent it to be loaded or
something, I don't know.

[Bug 147587] grub menu.lst update in gutsy make lvm unbootable

2007-10-01 Thread mirak
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have my root partition on LVM.

in fact I have a dual boot, with 3 boot partitions with grub.
the first one can boot windows or linux1 or linux2.
the two seconds (boot1 and boot2) got their own grub that boots respectively on
/dev/mapper/ubuntu-linux1 /dev/mapper/ubuntu-linux2

when I upgraded /dev/mapper/ubuntu-linux1 from feisty tout gutsy, the
menu.lst file for boot1 was messed with incoherent boot drive. it
choosed hd(0,4) instead of hd(0,5), and also the initrd line was absent,
and the root device was called with /dev/mapper/ubuntu-root or something
like that.

I think that when root is on LVM, it would be safer that the upgrade
process doesn't modify this menu.lst file at all.

[Bug 21413] Re: Proposals for "Swap Partition too small for Hibernation to work" scenario

2007-11-21 Thread mirak
there should be a separated file or partition for hibernation, otherwise you
can never guarantee there will be enough swap space to hibernate.
if we do a dedicated hibernate partition of the size of the ram we are sure ram
would fit in it, and swap would just stay in it's swap ...

yes it's an issue, in /usr/share/modass/compliant.list fglrx kernel
source module is refered as flgrx-kernel-src but it should be flgrx-
kernel-source.

Changing the name as I say above fixes the issue.

it's a shame this fix you provide really solve the problem :

**
Insert the file /usr/share/doc/mplayer/examples/etc/codecs.conf.gz to
/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf o be part of the package, as a configuration file.
Also, edit it, moving the whole mad entry right before the mp3lib entry. Also,
the line ac=mad, at /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf can be commented / removed.

by the way I might be off topic but I am taking the occasion to ask here if
anyone manage to use this PAL modelines to obtain a valid display on the
framebuffer, I mean on the non X display in console.
I see something on the output, but the image appear only on half of the screen
is not stable at all, scrolling up and down very fast. It's the same on Windows
XP login.
I tried things using radeonfb and /etc/fbdev.conf but it was worse nothing
appeared on the screen.

I use a Radeon 9600 pro

Also a bit of topic too but I guess you noticed as well, composite
option in the modeline have no effect on the fglrx driver.

I am interested you point me a place whith discussions about this VGA ->
PAL issues.

[Bug 69876] radeon 9600 pro broken dri acceleration with fglrx (asking how to integrate the fix to main)

2006-11-02 Thread mirak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic

Hi,
No matter what I do, the fglrx module doesn't enable DRI and 3d acceleration,
or a broken one at least, without rebuilding a kernel and disabling the module
ATI Radeon. I did that for Dapper and it worked.

I found this fix on google from a gentoo user :
http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:c80xQyXXpXUJ:www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/Hardware/Making_ATI_drivers_work_with_nforce2_and_kernel_2_6_in_Gentoo+gentoo+nforce+2+9600+pro&hl=fr&ct=clnk&cd=3&client=firefox

*
*
Making your Radeon 9600 PRO work with Nforce2 and kernel 2.6(Gentoo)

I realize there are many guides out there, however none really worked
for me. I figured I'd write this so that others may benefit from my long
tired hours in front of the screen, leering back at me.

Lets begin:
The first thing you need to do is make sure your kernel is configured
correctly. If not, you'll have to recompile over again, however using gentoo
this should not be much of a challenge :)

#cd /usr/src/linux
#make menuconfig

Now make sure the following are enabled:

Device drivers>Character devices:
(M)AGP support(agpgart)
(M)nforce2 chipset support
(*)direct rendering manager (drm)
- (*) ATI radeon

but NOT support for ATI radeon!(Strange as it may sound)

If they are continue, if not, recompile your kernel.(If you can't
remember how it is done, refer to the excellent installation handbook at
gentoo.org)

Now you need to enable the new modules so you'll need to edit your
modules autoload:

#nano /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6

then write in: (from the top)
agpgart
nvidia-agp
radeon

*
*

Using Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no" should in theory resolve most
problems, but for radeon 9600 pro the problem seems somewhere else.

I am not sure this problem only happen when you use nforce2+ radeon
9600 pro, but I found on google a lot of person who had this problem
with 9600 pro.

So I am wondering how this bug could be fixed without users having to rebuild a
kernel+fglrx modules.
I believe asking to have a special kernel in main is a bit to much :p

2006-11-03 Thread mirak
In fact it works, I needed to disable composite extension in plus.

However I still can't make work the DRI of fglrx with the edgy 2.6.17-10 kernel.
This module /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/char/drm/radeon.ko
really needs to not be built into the kernel.

Maybe there is another way to fix that and prevent it to be loaded or
something, I don't know.

[Bug 70059] Re: in module-assistant name of fglrx-kernel-src should be fglrx-kernel-source in compliant.list

2007-09-05 Thread mirak
yes it's an issue, in /usr/share/modass/compliant.list fglrx kernel
source module is refered as flgrx-kernel-src but it should be flgrx-
kernel-source.

I am on feisty.

Changing the name as I say above fixes the issue.

2007-01-23 Thread mirak
There is a symlink problem.
I can't tell if it was fixed on edgy freshinstall, but on the upgrade from
dapper it wasn't.
