[Bug 356264] Re: MASTER: VirtualBox 2.0.4 through 2.2beta1 don't support xserver 1.6 in Jaunty

2009-05-09 Thread mjhooker
Bug 366773 has been linked against this bug (356264) as a duplicate.

This bug relates to xorg-server while 366773 relates to vbox0 network
interfaces not being created, in fact they don't seem to be needed
anymore.

I don't see the connection, could somebody justify the link.

[Bug 366773] [NEW] vbox0 interface not being created after 8.04 -> 8.10 -> 9.04 upgrade

2009-04-25 Thread mjhooker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

Was using 8.04

Had followed the instructions here to create bridge and vboxN interfaces
for host networking

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-set-up-host-interface-networking-for-
virtualbox-on-ubuntu.html

Upgraded to 9.04 (via 8.10)

vbox0 device not created, appears on virtualbox's host interface list
but not on via 'ifconfig vbox0'

no errors on /etc/init.d/virtualbox-ose restart

no errors in 'grep vbox0 /var/log/*'

virtualbox-ose is 2.1.4-dfsg-1ubuntu3
virtualbox-ose-source is 2.1.4-dfsg-1ubuntu3

VirtualBox 2.1.0 (released 2008-12-17)

New Host Interface Networking implementations for Windows and Linux
hosts with easier setup (replaces TUN/TAP on Linux and manual bridging
on Windows)

Selecting pan0 as the host interface appears to work.

See here -

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3518

However

But 'brctl addif pan0 eth0' does not enable VMs to get DHCP addresses or
network access.

Selecting br0 (a bridge left over from the 8.10 config) allows one VM to
get DHCP and network access.

Not sure why earlier test with br0 allowed only one machine a DHCP address.
Have re-tested on fresh boot. Two VMs booted into LTSP after connecting both
using host mode with br0 as the interface.

So when upgrading from 8.04 to 9.04 with virtualbox users should.

1. (before upgrading) Make sure that there are no saved states (as it
does not resume properly)

2. (after upgrading) Change network adapter from vboxN to br0

[Bug 366773] [NEW] vbox0 interface not being created after 8.04 -> 8.10 -> 9.04 upgrade

2009-04-25 Thread mjhooker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

Was using 8.04

Had followed the instructions here to create bridge and vboxN interfaces
for host networking

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-set-up-host-interface-networking-for-
virtualbox-on-ubuntu.html

Upgraded to 9.04 (via 8.10)

vbox0 device not created, appears on virtualbox's host interface list
but not on via 'ifconfig vbox0'

no errors on /etc/init.d/virtualbox-ose restart

no errors in 'grep vbox0 /var/log/*'

virtualbox-ose is 2.1.4-dfsg-1ubuntu3
virtualbox-ose-source is 2.1.4-dfsg-1ubuntu3

VirtualBox 2.1.0 (released 2008-12-17)

New Host Interface Networking implementations for Windows and Linux
hosts with easier setup (replaces TUN/TAP on Linux and manual bridging
on Windows)

Selecting pan0 as the host interface appears to work.

See here -

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3518

However

But 'brctl addif pan0 eth0' does not enable VMs to get DHCP addresses or
network access.

Selecting br0 (a bridge left over from the 8.10 config) allows one VM to
get DHCP and network access.

2009-04-25 Thread mjhooker

Not sure why earlier test with br0 allowed only one machine a DHCP address.
Have re-tested on fresh boot. Two VMs booted into LTSP after connecting both
using host mode with br0 as the interface.

So when upgrading from 8.04 to 9.04 with virtualbox users should.

1. (before upgrading) Make sure that there are no saved states (as it
does not resume properly)

2. (after upgrading) Change network adapter from vboxN to br0

anymore.

I don't see the connection, could somebody justify the link.
