[Bug 1879633] Re: Killer 500s (QCA6390) WLAN/BT [17cb:1101] unavailable
Hi, thanks for your answer! In fact, XPS 15 9500 *have* a QCA6390, but only the i9 version (which I have). So I've made progress: it appears I had both software and hardware problems since it also stopped working in Windows. Sometimes the card is gone (not appearing in the devices manager), and when I reboot it's back (or not). That introduced a big confusion variable when I tried different solutions yesterday, because indeed the card was just disconnected (or appeared so to the system). So, right now it's back online, and I've got it working now (with linux- oem-20.04b and linux-firmware=1.187.9 from focal)! Or at least, partially. *Like other people in this thread*, I get stack traces and errors in the kernel log (attached). Connection to a hotspot can't be done or lasts for a second or so, and it makes the system unstable. Is there a known solution (I can't find one here), should I open a new bug report for this, or is there already one? ** Attachment added: "kernel.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1879633/+attachment/5475148/+files/kernel.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879633 Title: Killer 500s (QCA6390) WLAN/BT [17cb:1101] unavailable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1879633/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1879633] Re: Killer 500s (QCA6390) WLAN/BT [17cb:1101] unavailable
Hi @vicamo, I virtually tried every method in this thread, notably methods 2 and 3 exposed in the summary, and also virtually every other method I could find on the web, including those ones: - https://mukaiguy.medium.com/adding-wifi-drivers-to-ubuntu-linux-for-dells-xps-15-9500-with-ax500-f535fb42db70 - https://askubuntu.com/questions/1280328/ubuntu-20-04-killer-ax500s-dbs-drivers-support (all answers) But with no success at all. My laptop is a XPS 9500 running on **Groovy**. In the end it never worked even if I had all the necessary and up-to- date firmware files in /lib/firmware/ath11k/, a 5.10+ kernel (custom or from the focal/hirsute repos), and an up-to-date BIOS. I've never had any line mentioning the Wifi card in the kernel logs. I'm quite desperate :) I must mention that it works on Windows so that's not a hardware issue. Thanks in advance, I could use any ideas... ** Attachment added: "kernel.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1879633/+attachment/5474651/+files/kernel.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879633 Title: Killer 500s (QCA6390) WLAN/BT [17cb:1101] unavailable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1879633/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1896508] [NEW] Firefox window disappears completely
Public bug reported: After running for a while, eventually the firefox window just becomes completely transparent. The window manager (gnome-shell) still sees it, and I can quit firefox. The dialog to ask me whether I want to quite with open tabs opens up, but is just a blank window. Thankfully I know where the "close tabs" button is and I click there and it works. So, input events seem to work find and the window manager still sees the window, but it's gone. If I run firefox on the console I see this output when it happens: Unflushed glGetGraphicsResetStatus: 0x92bb [GFX1-]: [OPENGL] Failed to init compositor with reason: FEATURE_FAILURE_OPENGL_CREATE_CONTEXT There is an upstream bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1535721 that suggests looking at the value of layers.acceleration.force-enabled . Indeed it's set to true by default in this build. I'm running Pop!OS on a System76 laptop, but as far as I can tell from apt, the firefox package is just the ubuntu build. $ apt show firefox Package: firefox Version: 80.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 $ firefox --full-version Mozilla Firefox 80.0.1 20200831163820 20200831163820 ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1896508 Title: Firefox window disappears completely To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1896508/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1856562] [NEW] Nsscache 0.39 for Bionic
Public bug reported: Hi friends, Apologies if this is the incorrect place to report this (please point me in the right direction if this is the case). Currently Bionic is shipping with nsscache (https://github.com/google/nsscache) version 0.34-2ubuntu1 I was wondering if we could upgrade the package to 0.39 (as per debian testing https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/nsscache) - as this alleviates some issues with nested group support as well as some formatting and some smaller bugfixes. This will allow operators to upgrade fleets to bionic and get these fixes for free when doing so. I have had a conversation with the google folks here where they have confirmed this is fine; https://groups.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!msg /nsscache-discuss/hQCqL1AMyl0/DUrME51uAQAJ Many thanks, /morgy ** Affects: hdf5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: packaging -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1856562 Title: Nsscache 0.39 for Bionic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hdf5/+bug/1856562/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 751057] Re: grub-pc upgrade on Amazon EC2: The GRUB boot loader was previously installed to a disk that is no longer present, or whose unique identifier has changed for some reason.
I've just hit this too: in my case updating an 18.04 instance on AWS. It was not an issue when I last updated/rebooted about a month ago. In my case it prompted me to install onto a disk and a partition during the update, via a lurid full screen display. Not knowing quite what to do I selected *both*, thinking more is safer. I haven't attempted a reboot yet though, so I will now try to reconfigure that to neither. I'm not sure whether this would have actually prevented the instance from booting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751057 Title: grub-pc upgrade on Amazon EC2: The GRUB boot loader was previously installed to a disk that is no longer present, or whose unique identifier has changed for some reason. [Bug 1548947] Re: Canon printer/scanner driver fails
I have both a scanner and a hp printer. My scanner was connected with my system previously, so I decided to connect my hp printer with my router. At the time of connecting, it wanted a WPS pin. It seems to be a problem related to 'usb_modeswitch'. If you do a search on the internet then this seems to be a problem that continually reappears for various ubuntu versions over the last decade. Here is a short term solution I found that worked for me:- 1). Plug your dongle into usb port and wait until it indicates a signal has been detected. 2). Do a 'Ctrl-Alt-t' to get a terminal window up. 3). In terminal window type 'lsusb' and then hit return. 4). One of the entries in the output should read something like:- 'Bus 001 Device 004: ID 12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Broadband stick (modem on)' 5). Make a note of the two hexidecimal numbers after the 'ID' i.e. in this example '12d1' and '1446'. 6). In the terminal window type:- 'sudo usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1446 -J' replacing the numbers after the '-v' and '-p' with the numbers you made a note of in step 5). above and hit return. 7). The output looks something like:- 'Look for default devices ... product ID matched Found devices in default mode (1) Access device 004 on bus 001 Current configuration number is 1 Use interface number 0 Use endpoints 0x01 (out) and 0x81 (in) USB description data (for identification) - Manufacturer: Huawei Technologies Product: HUAWEI Mobile Serial No.: not provided - Using standard Huawei switching message Looking for active driver ... OK, driver detached Set up interface 0 Use endpoint 0x01 for message sending ... Trying to send message 1 to endpoint 0x01 ... OK, message successfully sent Reset response endpoint 0x81 Reset message endpoint 0x01 Device is gone, skip any further commands -> Run lsusb to note any changes. Bye!' 8). In terminal window type 'lsusb' and then hit return. 9). The entry noted in step 4). above should now read something like:- 'Bus 001 Device 005: ID 12d1:1506 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Modem/Networkcard' 10). The dongle interface should now appear in 'Network Tools' and you should be able to connect as usual. 11). You need to go through this everytime you reboot until an update fixes the bug. Not ideal but a life saver if you can only connect to the network using this device ! regards, Kevin Morgan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1817410 Title: After last software update Huawei 3372H-153 modem is not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1817410/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1568057] Re: 'Print to file' fails silently if file name contains special characters
Thanks for the response, Paul I have double-checked and the problem now seems to be solved. I successfully managed to 'print-to-file' with the following file name: Test¬!"£$%^&*()_+`1234567890-=[]{};'#:@~,.<>?\|test.pdf The only special character that now seems to prevent the filename from being 'printed-to-file' is the forward slash. Including a forward slash in the file name now generates the error message 'No such file or directory'. So as far as I am concerned the bug no longer exists. Many thanks for looking into it. I do believe that this is affecting all Razer Blade 15 laptops, due to the nature of the issue. I tried both the 4.16 and 4.17 kernel, both did not detect the track pad. However, the 4.17 kernel didn't work with my WiFi card, so went back to 4.16. I have included my ~/dmesg, ~/devices, /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Just going through it myself, it appears that 'Razer Razer Blade' is sometimes being tagged as a mouse ([ 326.038] (II) event11 - Razer Razer Blade: is tagged by udev as: Mouse). Weird. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: trackpad ** Attachment added: "A .zip file containing all necessary debug information regarding my machine." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778282/+attachment/5155723/+files/Log%20Files.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778282 Title: 'Precision Track Pad' not detected as input source To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1778282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

RE: [Bug 1752761] Re: Regression in vga handling ubuntu10.21 to ubuntu10.22
Hi Christian, Thanks for your reply: Pt 2) LUBUNTU CD boot - not an option at this time - UAT / production Xen0 with other non Windows PV VMs running on them. Pt 1) Yes I can do some additional testing on a different R620 Xen0 / Xenial platform. Currently I can cause/remove the issue by just installing the 10.21 and 10.22 versions. This can be done live / without a reboot of the base Xen platform. From other testing I can tell you the recovery ISO CD is very slow to boot, but it did complete to initial screens previously (although I couldn't tell you exactly which of the newer versions of QEMU that was on). I can build an clean image from ISO fairly easily - do you have a preference for Windows 2008R8 vs Win7 Pro ? I believe it is the same issues, but most of my immediate issues are with Win Server VMs. I also have a Trusty system with the same issues - does that add anything if I can run tests on it? Finally (slightly dumb question) does the DBG version of the DEB (.DDEB) provide any additional information / crash reports - is that worth installing? Do you want me to work with .22 or the proposed .23? We can probably run development cuts from PPA, cut need a bit of risk control work at my end. @Marc - Does the BSOD screen shot / address / Windows MEM Dump file stuff give you anything? Regards, Carl -Original Message- From: boun...@canonical.com [mailto:boun...@canonical.com] On Behalf Of ChristianEhrhardt Sent: Friday, 2 March 2018 7:57 PM To: Morgan, Carl Subject: [Bug 1752761] Re: Regression in vga handling ubuntu10.21 to ubuntu10.22 Hi Carl, thank you for your detailed report! This is the second qemu/xen bug for regressions in these security updates in one day - with none (=0) of them over the last two years - unlikely to be a coincidence. @Marc - I don't see an obvious change, but you have way more context on these changes since you have backported them. Do you have any info of a potential regression in them? Maybe the CVE-2018-5683 change? @Carl - your detailed steps are already great. Could you give it a try if the same applies to a unmodified (gplpv) and non-prepared/installed windows as well? Maybe by using an ISO of [1] in your already prepared setup - and if it fails as well sharing the commands you did for that as well? That would make it even better to reproduce. @Carl - we have another report on even Lubuntu iso's stalling. If you could (since all other parts of your setup are already ready) try the same with a boot from [2] - that is reported to hang with the new version. If the steps above could be confirmed I'd expect that helps Marc a lot to look into the individual changes in this regard. Probably related to bug: 1752375 [1]: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 [2]: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/17.10.1/release/lubuntu-17.10.1-desktop-amd64.iso P.S. [Bug 1704190] [NEW] Headache breaks shell script files
Public bug reported: This seems to have been covered by a previous bug, see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=440442 However in the current headache (1.03-25) this is not the case. The patch 02_skip_begin is mentioned at revision 1.03-13 but there is no diff and AFAIK no public repository going back that far. Running headache on a file with a shebang '#!' places the copyright message at the start of the file, rather than after the shebang line. For some shells this breaks the script. My workround is a sed script that looks for shebang start of the file and fixes it up after headache has done it's thing, this leaves 'dead' shebangs in the file but as they are not the first line they have no effect. ** Affects: headache (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1704190 Title: Headache breaks shell script files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/headache/+bug/1704190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1700823] Re: libvirt0 breaks libvirt-bin compiled from sources
Thank you for your reply. Well, I did several tests of having a clean system, installing only the libvirt0 package and then compiling and installing libvirt-bin with --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var, and libvirt0 still makes my compiled version crash. Did I miss a directory? That particular question might be my point. Maybe I forgot to replace files from a particular directory? My guess would be something to do with /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu... Still, if this doesn't really qualify as a bug, it might still be useful information for the next Ubuntu release, so maybe we can include an updated libvirt-bin package on the repositories. My problem really came from the need to use an update version of the library along with qemu-kvm and virt-manager, the latter of which, indirectly depends on libvirt0. I could just uninstall it with dpkg, but then I will need to reinstall it in order for apt to be able to upgrade packages. I took the liberty of trying out a dummy libvirt0 package I made, and so far, everything works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700823 Title: libvirt0 breaks libvirt-bin compiled from sources To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1700823/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1700823] [NEW] libvirt0 breaks libvirt-bin compiled from sources
Public bug reported: The package libvirt0-1.3.1-1ubuntu10.10 included in Ubuntu 16.04 breaks libvirt-bin 3.4+ compiled from official libvirt sources. It should be replaced by a dummy package. I've tested this with libvirt 3.4 and libvirt 3.5, both versions will fail if libvirt0 is installed. To reproduce: 1. Install qemu-kvm package, and virt-manager with all recommended dependencies. libvirt0 gets automatically installed. 2. Download, compile and install libvirt 3.4+ from the official sources. 3. attempt to restart the libvirtd service. Expected behavior: The service should have worked. What really happened: The service failed to start without any useful information about why. Temporary workaround: 1. forcefully uninstall libvirt0 ignoring dependencies: "dpkg -r --ignore-depends=libvirt0 libvirt0" 2. reinstall the compiled version of libvirt (for good measure) 3. For each update: do "apt-get -f install" first, do the updates and uninstall libvirt0 again. Everything seems to be working fine without libvirt0, except of course, APT, which wants to fix the dependency issue. Suggested fix: Make libvirt0 a metapackage, so it installs an updated version of libvirt. 3.4.0 is stable, and there's no special requirements to create a usable .deb package. ** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: libvirt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700823 Title: libvirt0 breaks libvirt-bin compiled from sources To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1700823/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
