[Bug 571872] [NEW] bnx2x drivers take 100 seconds to initialize
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: debian-installer When doing a net install with the netboot files for 10.04 on HP BL460 G6 blades with bnx2x onboard NICs the kernel is able to identify the first 4 interfaces one after another, but then takes 100 seconds between the remaining 6. It then cycles through again. Once it's done it's then unable to DHCP from eth0 and eth1, and only eth2 seems to work properly. HP BL460 G6 blades use logical ethernet devices, and should only have a count of 8 devices, not 10. It seems that the physical NICs are included (as eth0 and eth1). Error that appears after 100 seconds is: [bnx2x_wait_ramrod:7159(eth4)]timeout polling for state c on IDX [1] This does not happen once the system is fully installed and running locally, it only happens when doing a netinstall. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release:10.04 apt-cache policy linux linux: Installed: (none) Candidate: 2.6.32.21.22 Version table: 2.6.32.21.22 0 500 http://apt-dev/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages uname -a: Linux null-005056bb3144 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 unknown What I expect to happen: Netboot and detect all ethernet devices in reasonable amount of time, then DHCP from eth0 to begin install. [Bug 562509] [NEW] Automounts users autofs home directories by default (face browser disabled)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Even with the face browser disabled when GDM starts it mounts up to 100 users autofs home dirs. This is an issue since having hundreds of desktops hosts automatically mount autofs home dirs when they'll most likely not be used could cause a resource issue on the file server. This is as a possible security too issue since the system is automatically mounting home dirs without authentication. Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch) - sync'd from main repos on April 13th Release:10.04 Package: gdm: Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu4 Candidate: 2.30.0-0ubuntu4 Version table: *** 2.30.0-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://apt-dev/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What was done: Face browser disabled per: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/FAQ#GNOME%20Display%20Manager%20%28gdm%29 sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list true Expected behavior: GDM displays username prompt with no filesystems mounted with the exception of those in /etc/fstab. [Bug 542666] Re: No verbose output on ubuntu-server
Same problem here. Removed plymout,h but upon boot it's strangely quiet. We have a custom script that runs from /etc/init.d/ that normally is quite noisy about what's it's doing, but with 10.04 it boots to login without a peep, even though the script is running in the background. I understand having quiet boot is good for desktops and splash screens, but for ubuntu-server it would be nice to have it by default do a traditional sequential init script boot. Is there an upstart option for sequential and verbose booting? I realize we could re-write the script to work with upstart, but the documentation for this doesn't seem finished and I haven't had much luck finding good examples online. Not to mention the amount of time and resources needed to re-write tried and true init.d scripts. -- No verbose output on ubuntu-server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/542666 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
