2009-02-25 Thread nadavkav
i also confirm it is still an issue with latest ubuntu and firefox 3.0.6

tomer,
my sister pressed report bug (or something) on the firefox help menu and got
redirected here for the bug issue report
so i think it is ubuntu's responsibility to make it transparent for her (and
for any normal/casual and unfamiliar user with the origin of applications) to
report what ever bug she see and expect it to be handled here and not have to
go upstream :-)

i wrote this note to you since i am a developer and i see your similar
remarks from time to time. if you want it reported properly to you or
upstream. please make sure the firefox' ubuntu link redirect the bug
report to mozilla's bugzilla with some predefined tags you can follow
:-) ir work somthing with the ubuntu people ?

please please please try to consider the users ;-)

[Bug 309724] [NEW] no sound after fast switching between logged in users

2008-12-19 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

suddenly, after several fast switching between users
(that are logged in for several days)
sound breaks and there is no sound.

no specific consistence and not a specific application causing this
i just suddenly notice i can not play sounds from within flash objects in FF3
of play sound from totem or mplayer ...

restarting the alsa sound drivers does not help
/etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart
 * Shutting down ALSA... [ OK ]
 * Setting up ALSA...[ OK ]

( i am a root user, but also from a simple user that is the same case)
killall pulseaudio
pulseaudio: no process killed
r...@family:~# /usr/bin/pulseaudio --system -D
W: ltdl-bind-now.c: Failed to find original dlopen loader.

also...
/usr/bin/pulseaudio --system
W: ltdl-bind-now.c: Failed to find original dlopen loader.
E: pid.c: Daemon already running.
E: main.c: pa_pid_file_create() failed.

some times those commands work and i get sound
but most of the time... those same commands does not
work and i have to reboot (if i wish to hear sound)

[Bug 294084] Re: logout hangs gdm (when several users are logged in)

2008-12-19 Thread nadavkav
i think this is a duplicate to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/desktop-effects/+bug/88152

and all other bugs in its (88152) duplicate list.

btw, i use desktop-effects on the first user i log into.

this system lock down happens after fast switching between
already logged in users that are using the system for some time
(some times days)

we switch allot and then it hangs.

i found out that...
only after closing firefox (3) on all user's sessions

[Bug 304813] [NEW] error saving links/files with hebrew names

2008-12-03 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

when i start FF3 with English locale and then try to save a file (attachment)
from google's gmail inbox
FF saves the Hebrew filename with wrong encoding (i guess) on the file system.
seems like 8859-8 ???
and i am unable to open the file (later) with any application.

if i change the locale to Hebrew (UTF8) and only then, open FF and save the
link (file) it all works fine.
i get an Hebrew filename on the Desktop that i can open with any application.
and i can also open it with the associated mime type application
(suppose the attached file in my gmail's inbox was an OpenOffice document, with
Hebrew filename)

[Bug 222643] Re: removable medias mounted for every user logged

2008-11-10 Thread nadavkav
i confirm this behavior for mounting usb camera too.

when i switch to other users (after a session of mounting and unmounting of a
usb camera)
i see left over dialogs from the times when i plugged in the camera (on the
previous user)
the camera is no longer connected (physically) . actually, they are confused...
when switching to their desktop and faced with those dialogs.

i think, pluggable mounted devices should display auto-mount-dialogs for
the current user only.

maybe? another related issue/bug...
if i plug the camera on some user's session and then move to some other user's
session
i get dbus error. and when i move back to the first user's session i see the
auto-mount-dialog
still open on the desktop.
only when i move through all the open user's sessions on the system and close
all the redundant dialogs
i can mount the camera successfully on the user's session.

[Bug 296209] [NEW] opening a mounted camera folder does not show scroll bars

2008-11-10 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

i plug in a (usb) camera and (an auto-mount dialog appears and i close it)
i open nautilus and click the camera's mount link on the left (nautilus)
panel.
pictures are starting to appear on the main (right) window BUT the right scroll
bar
does not show up when there are more pictures then the viewable area can hold.
(i can even see the tips of the next row of pictures but i can not scroll to it)

when i move to some other folder and come back, the scroll bar appears
:-)

minor bug.

now, when i logout one of the users...gdm hangs (i think) mouse is functioning

[Bug 290226] [NEW] unable to switch keyboard layouts

2008-10-28 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

when setting keyboard layouts to switch with Alt+ Shift keys nothing happens
i need to open the keyboard layout indicator (applet) choose preferences
then a dialog opens.
i choose LAYOUTS
then i choose LAYOUT OPTIONS
then LAYOUT SWITCHING
the i disable and re-enable the Alt + Shift checkbox

only then it works !

when i logout and login into the session the setting is gone.
and when i boot the machine it is gone too.

clicking the Keyboard Layout indicator (applet) works fine.

when i change the xorg.conf manually and add

Section InputDevice
Identifier Generic Keyboard
Driver kbd
Option XkbRules xorg
Option XkbModel pc105
Option XkbLayout us,il
Option XkbOptionsgrp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll
EndSection

all works fine.

but, i think it should work without changing the xorg.conf file.

it seem that when the session starts and the keyboard layout applet loads it
does not
issue a change in the X keyboard setting ? (maybe)

[Bug 288132] Re: f-spot fullscreen forward and backward are reversed in hebrew rtl UI

2008-10-27 Thread nadavkav
for rtl (hebrew) UI, i think the order of icons should be a little
different.

1. forward (arrow pointing to the left) , play (triangle pointing to the
left) , backwards (arrow pointing to the right)

since the entire UI flow of rtl users is right to left, i think the PLAY button
should point to the left
and the forward arrow too ( as i see in many applications, ex. firefox ) BUT
maybe the universal
convention of PLAY is an icon of a play button pointing to the right ?
anyways, the UI flow should be right to left.

2. the exit icon is half off bar.

3. the entire bar should be centred ? or justified to the right ?

[Bug 288119] [NEW] clock applet hebrew (rtl) week days are justified to the left (too much)

[Bug 288132] [NEW] f-spot fullscreen forward and backward are reversed in hebrew rtl UI

2008-10-23 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

when in fullscreen mode and using hebrew rtl UI
the forward and backward buttons are displayed in reverse order
and the exit (X) as almost... not visible.

i guess the entire navigation panel/toolbar should be justified to the right
or set into rtl mode (some how)

and a little usability issue...
the return from fullscreen button should be slitely moved apart from the reset
of the buttons or placed in a more sensible position.

yes :-(

thou, i use ALT + left mouse click to move around the dialogue.
(it is my father's computer and he was unable to use it, until i showed him
howto)

you should probably make sure (some how) that all system dialogues are fully
visible in 800x600 mode too, since their are MANY of those out there ;-)
i work in many (50) schools and they have old monitors that are unable to go
1024x768 :-(

[Bug 234029] [NEW] hebrew FF 3 - status line, hebrew text in reversed site name before label

2008-05-22 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

when using the hebrew version of firefox 3 beta 5 -- looking at the status
line, the label describing the current action and the site's name are displayed
in reverse ordered.
(it's ok in english but it is suppose to be reversed order in rtl hebrew and it
is not)

example (in english, but pretend it is in hebrew, please :-)
how it normally should be: loading site...+some site.com
how it is in hebrew: some site.com+loading site...

imagine loading site... is translated to hebrew which breaks
the order of the sentence in the rtl hebrew language.

[Bug 190648] [NEW] small fonts after fresh install of xfce4

2008-02-10 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

after installing a new xfce4 on a fresh ubuntu (7.10) install i get tiny
fonts when i log into xfce4 (gnome is just fine!)

adding the following solved it:
edit /home/USER-ACCOUNT/.config/xfce4/Xft.xrdb
adding Xft.dpi: 96 and saving it.

re-login into xfce4 shows fonts correctly.

please see if you need to fix this globally or did i have a local bug ?

[Bug 137118] Re: Gnome splash screen and sound disabled in Gutsy

2008-02-05 Thread nadavkav
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 129029 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129029

we have a P3 450Mhz (512MB) slow machine that takes a minute or so to
display a full working desktop (gnome) after we choose the login user.
in this time we just look at an empty screen with no visual indication
of any login progress. suddenly we here the login sound (which is
redundant, especially if we want to optimize stuff) but it stays
(visually) the same until half a minute later it start showing the
desktop's toolbars...

please see if you can enable some minimal desktop is load...
indication. (change the cursor, maybe?)

kindly,
nadav :-)

[Bug 185685] [NEW] entire system crash when clicking some desktop icons

2008-01-24 Thread nadavkav
Public bug reported:

i use Ubuntu 7.10 with a Clevo D631S Laptop. the system is up to date.
it can work for hours some time with no problem (intensive multimedia +
internet + word processing)
and then i click on a launch bar icon or a desktop icon (starting open office
or firefox)
and the system's harddisk led blinks for a second and the entire system crash
(immediately)
and restarts.

i've tried to remove wireless card (rt2500) / disable acpi / disable cpu
throttling
made a custom kernel with minimized set of modules... nothing helped.
i've started the system up with a live DSL 4.1 cd (kernel version 2.4)
and it crashed after some time too :-(
i've tested the RAM with memtest. (seams ok)

no log files are available since it crashes immediately :-(

any ideas ?

[Bug 137389] Re: No Sound from onboard Analog Devices AD1888 SI7012

2007-12-07 Thread nadavkav
i have a little different board and maybe a different sis sound card (it's an
old laptop)
BUT it looks like we have the same issue.

i SOLVED it (partially)
by adding acpi=force to the kernel's boot command line parameters
(/boot/grub/menu.lts)

before i added the kernel's option the card was not recognized and it didn't
get any IRQ
now my sis sound card works :-)
