[Bug 1841915] Re: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome Wayland session

2020-03-16 Thread naisanza
`sudo killall -9 gdm` immediately fixes the "unresponsive" problem for
me. But you have to SSH into the box to do this, which is an extreme
bandaid

The screen remains blank even moving the mouse around for a few minutes,
and pressing ESC a couple times.

The monitor shows as "no input"

[Bug 1770268] [NEW] [GeForce GTX 1080] 18.04 DisplayPort 15m cable no display

2018-05-09 Thread naisanza
Public bug reported:

related: [GeForce GTX 1080] 17.10.1 DisplayPort 15m cable no display after
starting "EFI VGA"
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1747488

related: [GeForce GTX 1080] 17.10.1 DisplayPort 15m cable monitor flickering
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1747492

See related bug reports.

The same behavior is seen with Ubuntu 18.04.

Setting `nomodeset` in the grub kernel line is the only way for the
installer to be displayed. If `nomodeset` is not set, the installer will
boot into full resolution 3440x1440 and no display is able to reach the
monitor.

** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1747492] Re: [GeForce GTX 1080] 17.10.1 DisplayPort 15m cable monitor flickering

2018-03-12 Thread naisanza
I just tried it with the latest download from the main page. And it
seems to have issues displaying 3440 x 1440 @ 59Hz/60Hz. It can only
display it at 49Hz.

However, at the login screen, it will display, by default, at 3440 x
1440 @ 60Hz, so there is no display shown.

On Windows 10, there is no display issues at 3440 x 1440 @ 60Hz

The 15m DisplayPort cable shouldn't be a problem, but using a

[Bug 1747488] Re: [GeForce GTX 1080] 17.10.1 DisplayPort 15m cable no display after starting "EFI VGA"

2018-02-07 Thread naisanza
@Daniel van Vugt

Yeah, when it was a fresh install. The grub boot loader displayed, and
once it started booting into Ubuntu, the last line (in 'text' mode) was
saying "changing into EFI VGA"; after that there were no monitor output,
as if it were connected, but just a black display; and unlike a poorly
configured X.conf, it was just black. No cursor, no switch to terminal
(CTRL+ALT+F1)

I installed on a DisplayPort-to-Dvi monitor with a 1m cable, and then
after the install finished and rebooted, I switched it back to
DisplayPort connected to the LG 34" over a 15m cable.

My screen was all flickering, pixelated line distortions flicker across
the screen. It stopped after installing nvidia drivers

The NonfreeKernelModules information would be incorrect, since I
installed the nvidia proprietary drivers.

But it was using nouveau when it was freshly installed.

[Bug 1747743] [NEW] Authentication request constantly, after restoring 16.04 deja-dup backup onto 17.10.1

2018-02-06 Thread naisanza
Public bug reported:

After installing 17.10.1, and restoring a 16.04 deja-dup backup to its
original locations, the gnome-calendar constantly asks for
authentication.

Even when there are no account added. And adding the account in question,
authenticating it, and then removing it, gnome-calendar still asks for
authentication requests

[Bug 1384394] Re: /etc/network/interfaces: "dns-nameservers" entries for bridge "br*" interfaces are ignored i.e. they are not listed in "/etc/resolv.conf" when invoking "ifup" command

2016-07-28 Thread naisanza
This problem is present in Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Desktop build, as well

Quick workaround:

$ rm /run/resolvconf/interface/NetworkManager

Deleting /run/resolvconf/interface/NetworkManager and re-running
ifdown/ifup will result in the /etc/network/interfaces dns-nameservers
to be populated into /etc/resolv.conf (aka
../run/resolvconf/resolv.conf)

Public bug reported:

When creating a new container, and creating a new user within the
container, if the new user has the same id and gid as a global user, the
processes created within the container are owned by that global user.

This causes unexpected ownership of container processes by users of the
global zone, which shouldn't happen. Processes spawned from a container
zone should be isolated from the global zone users.
