[Bug 696766] Re: Eog is unable to display multipage TIFF but is the default viewer for TIFF files
I accept the decision of the debian developer to not implement this feature in EOG because multipage tiff support is already implemented in EVINCE, but I disagree with you for closing this bug. This bug is related to Ubuntu and incorrect handling of multipage TIFF. Clicking on a TIFF image *under Ubuntu* will open EOG not EVINCE, so normal users, not hacker, not only aren't able to see all page of TIFF but also doesn't get informed in any way that this image have more than one page :( And how this normal user will find that EVINCE is the right application for open multi TIFF images? [Bug 696766] [NEW] Eog is unable to display multipage TIFF but is the default viewer for TIFF files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: eog Eye of gnome, the default image viewer of Ubuntu, open only the first page of a multi page TIFF image, hiding from end user existence of other pages. After a little research I've found the this bug have a long story: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132276 Upstream this bug was not fixed because this feature was implemented in Evince, the generic document viewer used by default also by Ubuntu... but for me, and I think also from all other *end users* this is a non sense because evince in Ubuntu is not associated to open by default TIFF files so *end users* who receives a multi page TIFF doesn't know that this TIFF are multi page because EOG completely hide this information, showing only the first page :( Same consideration are reported also here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=385781 I think we need to move forward with a simple and function solution. For example I propose: - make Evince default viewer for TIFF images - make Evince default viewer only for multi page TIFF images (it's possible without adding more and more code?) - adding analogue feature to EOG (maybe using partial code from evince) - EOG should inform in it's gui that this TIFF has more pages and should provide a link to open it Eye of GNOME 2.30.0 Ubuntu Version 10.04 ** Affects: eog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/696766 Title: Eog is unable to display multipage TIFF but is the default viewer for TIFF files -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 604648] [NEW] Evince doesn't print some pdf if page size are too bigger
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I have downloaded a pdf but when I try to print it with evince, after a while appear an error dialog reporting "Errore di stampa" Si è verificato un problema nell'elaborare il documento <>, document was not printed and furthermore my printer give me a blank sheet with just some other error informations: Error: /rangecheck in --.execform1-- Operand stack: --dict: 7/16 (L) -- 1 11 PDF information extracted with pdfinfo are: Creator:Adobe InDesign CS4 (6.0.4) Producer: Adobe PDF Library 9.0 CreationDate: Thu Jun 17 15:14:35 2010 ModDate:Thu Jun 17 15:14:39 2010 Tagged: no Pages: 1 Encrypted: no Page size: 850.394 x 1190.55 pts File size: 342137 bytes Optimized: yes PDF version:1.6 So I have supposed that probably is a problem of page size. Firstly I have installed also Acrobat Reader, opened the same pdf file and tried to print, and all is ok. Next, I have re opened the same file with evince: also the print preview confirm my hypothesis because not all the pdf area of the page are displayed correctly but only a part of it (cutting some text on left and right side). So I have searched if evince give me the possibility to scale it and after a while I find on "Gestione pagina" (probably page management) the select box near label "Scala pagina" (probably page scaling). Setting it to "Adatta all'area stampabile" (probably adapt it to print area) and next printing the pdf work ok and print a pdf similarly to the pdf printed with acrobat reader. So I think that the right behaviour of evince in this cases would be to adapt the page automatically if page size are too bigger. [Bug 600982] [NEW] Show trash icon on desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Trash icon is not visible by default on desktop and furthermore is not simple for an average user to show it. Actually you have to trick with gconf-editor or install 3th party applications as Ubuntu-tweak. So we have two problem for an average user: 1. trash icon is not visible and he/she doesn't have an idea how to retrieve documents in the trash etc. 2. there isn't system gui tools installed by default on Ubuntu, so average user is lost just for a trash... [Bug 16492] Re: Mouse pointer should disappear when keyboard is in use and mouse isn't
@mpt Good compromise between actual situation (mouse pointer always visible ) and solution proposed in this bug report (mouse pointer should disappear when typing, reading and all cases where mouse pointer is useless). I'm using unclutter on lucid lynx from two weeks and I think that is very useful when writing (for example in this box but also in Open Office) and reading documents. However I had meet some unpleasant behaviours, for example tooltip in firefox (alt and/or title of images, links etc.) or other browser disappear when mouse pointer disappear, if I try to listen a song from nautilus when mouse disappear song preview is restarted etc. After that I think that unclutter is not mature for going in "production". Probably mouse pointer should disappear quite immediately when *writing* and reappear after a little gap of time, when text cursor is probably distant. Furthermore I think that there are situations where mouse pointer shouldn't disappear also if not in use (not on the go) and this complicate the unclutter behaviour. -- Mouse pointer should disappear when keyboard is in use and mouse isn't https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/16492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 16492] Re: Mouse pointer should disappear when keyboard is in use and mouse isn't
@Matthew Paul Thomas I've also tried unclutter and for me it's a good compromise. 1) in open office cursor disappear nearly immediately (between 1 or 2 seconds) and this is very very comfortable when typing. If you move the mouse or change current application (with alt+tab switcher or something else) mouse cursor reappear. 2) in firefox cursor disappear both when reading something and when typing (in awesome bar or search bar) 3) in gimp I've your behavior but for me it's not distracting because mouse disappear only if you don't use it for a little gap of time (2 seconds I think) In my opinion unclutter it's a good application that enhance the user experience. One possibility would be to have an option on system>preferences>mouse to enable or disable the "unclutter behavior", so any user can eventually change it.
