[Bug 1097763] Re: Firefox 18 anti-aliasing does not render correctly some text
This is also an issue on Fedora 18 with Firefox 18, so I'd rather not think it is generally font rendering related. Fonts throughout the system (Gnome 3 / Gnome Shell with Droid Sans as default font) render correctly. The colour halos / aberration is only noticable within Firefox on certain web pages (e.g. FB and G+) in specific areas. Having the (system-wide correctly rendered) Droid Sans font set as default in Firefox with the allow web pages to use other fonts check box disabled also shows the incorrect rendering, so I'd rather regard this a Firefox issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1097763 Title: Firefox 18 anti-aliasing does not render correctly some text To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1097763/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is still present in FF 4.0.1 (Ubuntu 11.04, i386). [Bug 159594] Re: Crash to white screen of death (possibly Firefox?)
Having watched this a couple of weeks now, I don't think it is related to Compiz. Actually, I do think it might be related to Firefox and possibly some other interfering component. I switched to Chromium quite soon after my comment above (#51) and didn't experience any more WSOD crashes since then, even after re- activating Compiz. This is somehow notable as the machine on which I was experiencing the crashes is a 'production' system being used for software development more than ten hours a day, and actually I only remember the system crashing when I was using Firefox; in some, if not all (but I am not sure about this) cases right after Firefox gained focus and I started mouse movement. This issue still seems to be present in Lucid - I experienced a number of white (or light grey) screen crashes lately. As it is rather hot here these days, at first I thought this could be related to an overheating graphics adapter (xserver-xorg-video-ati and the 2.6.32 kernel do not support power management), but I saw the system crash just yesterday after having placed an extra fan above the GPU's heatspreader, so I guess this might rather not be a hardware related issue. Currently, I am suspecting compiz to be involved in this somehow; since having deactivated it, I haven't experienced the crash again. [Bug 540827] Re: ar9170usb wifi module crash + instabile connection
This somehow seems to be related to periodic scanning for other APs in range (e.g., NetworkManager does this). When configured manually using wpa_supplicant, I found the connection to be stable, unless I ran iwlist scan commands periodically - doing so reproducibly kills the connection after a random amount of time (I've seen this happen after five minutes as well as over an hour), rendering the device unusable afterwards until it is replugged. There is a patched version of NetworkManager that does not perform regular scans while a connection is established (see https://launchpad.net/~volanin/+archive/ppa), which provides a stable workaround for the problem; since I've been using that version, the wireless connection has been absolutely stable here. Also, NM 0.8.1 will regularly feature non-scanning behaviour for connections locked to a specific BSSID. -- ar9170usb wifi module crash + instabile connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/540827 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug is definitely not related to NetworkManager. I have already filed a bug against bugzilla.kernel.org describing this specific issue, but so far to no effect; as far as I know, the developer of the ar9170usb module currently focuses on a replacement driver (still experimental though). Hm, seems my RT2560 based card is now also affected by this issue, although I actually didn't notice until now.. After shutting down the wireless connection via NetworkManager, and bringing it up again, bandwidth returns back to normal. iwconfig permanently reports 54M, signal strength is 80% most of the time. After having reported this to the NetworkManager developers in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=620218, it turns out the issue might rather be related to the driver itself than to NetworkManager. This makes even more sense when considering that recently I ran across a disconnect when doing manual scans with iwlist for testing purposes - worked three or four times, then immediately after another scan the connection was lost and the device locked afterwards. This needs further testing (manual connection using wpa_supplicant without NetworkManager, and periodic scans with a shell script), but I am rather sure this is a driver / hardware issue. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #620218 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=620218 ** Also affects: network-manager via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=620218 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- [ar9170usb] Wifi disconnects and doesn't reconnect until dongle replugged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549140 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 571987] Re: Only first 20% of the volume slider works
Same problem here (VT1708S); both suggestions from the Ubuntu Wiki mentioned above don't work. After deleting ~/.pulse/default.pa (i.e., resetting everything to default), trying to change the volume by media keys or the panel applet has no effect at all anymore. Seems there is something severely broken on Lucid, at least for VT1708S in combination with alsa and pulse. *sigh* -- Only first 20% of the volume slider works https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571987 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 571987] Re: Only first 20% of the volume slider works
Well, actually I've just tested linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid- generic, but to no effect - neither media keys nor the volume panel applet change any channel at all. Installing the package also had a strange side-effect; seems it removed the network manager applet from the panel and replaced it by a black square with no function. Uninstalling the package brought back the network manager, but still volume control does no longer control alsa channels, rendering the applet (as well as the media keys on my keyboard) completely useless. -- Only first 20% of the volume slider works https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571987 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

From time to time, I am seeing this also 'in the middle' of a session, not just when the first app is launched. Not safely reproducible, happens randomly every now and then. [Bug 322909] Re: future gnome-volume-control has many use case regressions with move to Pulse Audio
Is this still being investigated? Since I've upgraded to Lucid, I can confirm weird behaviour when adjusting volume levels either by the new volume applet in Gnome (indicator) or by media keys. This is very annoying since it renders volume control rather useless. Concerning the system running here (Intel HDA), this must have been introduced with Lucid, as with Karmic everything went as expected (i.e., somewhat 'linear' control). The current behaviour here is as follows: When using the media keys on my keyboard with the volume initially set to 0, this effects the 'Front' channel in the first place. Pressing the appropriate media key three times sets the Front volume to 100% in three steps; this is when the volume has reached its maximum value. The same applies to the volume slider in the Gnome panel (indicator) - it sets Front to 100% after about 10% of the slider width. After that, and when Front has reached 100%, further volume increase effects the 'Master Front' channel rather granular; yet there is no more increase in actual volume. Manually setting 'volume = ignore' values in /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa- mixer/paths/analog-output.conf.common is not really an option as this file will most likely be overwritten when receiving updates for pulseaudio; also, messing around in system files is not what I'd call a 'clean' solution.. -- future gnome-volume-control has many use case regressions with move to Pulse Audio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this bug on Lucid Final using the Ambiance theme. From time to time, the theme seems to get lost, sometimes for the entire desktop (window decorations, widgets, panels), sometimes this affects only one particular window (ATM, I notice this with Nautilus) while the rest of the desktop remains in 'normal' state. [Bug 570589] Re: Lucid: Overheating due to no PM for ATI KMS
I definitely agree with Richard - I'd also rate this bug highly important, especially with the fact in mind that for ATI cards the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver is used by default on a fresh installation (correct me if I am wrong here). Also consider this might perhaps lead to increasing reports about dying video cards and eventually to bad publicity for the entire distribution. I might be a bit too concerned here, but I wonder how long a card may actually survive when permanently running on temperatures around 80°C (when idle, that is). Due to fglrx not supporting KMS and introducing a severe memory leak with compositing enabled, I switched back to the free driver just yesterday, but chose to revert that, as I am heavily concerned about the lifetime of my video card (HD4350, passive / heatsink) when using the free driver with the temperature being significantly (!) higher. -- Lucid: Overheating due to no PM for ATI KMS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568988] Re: [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop.
Confirm the fix works, at least when it comes to window management - @Alf: thank you very much for providing the PPA. Yet what I am still very unhappy with is the (obvious) memory management problem (leak) mentioned in the original bug description. Having glxinfo executed regularly by a script in order to deallocate memory is a hack I'd rather not apply to my system, not because it doesn't work out (in fact, it does), but because it is not what I'd call a 'clean' solution. *sigh* This is a really annoying situation: fglrx has severe memory problems and doesn't support KMS (i.e. ugly boot screen), xserver-xorg-video-ati lacks power management and lets the GPU run hot - both are (IMHO) not usable, so back to non-compositing until one or the other (or both) get fixed properly. :| -- [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 193501] Re: [hardy] seahorse password dialog not always modal
As opposed to this bug's original issue, please take note of the following: In its current form, the password dialog wouldn't let the user paste anything into the passphrase field. This is (or at least, could be) of a certain importance, when thinking of a complex passphrase being copied from an application storing passwords so as to eliminate the need to remember the passphrase. In fact, this is what I (and possibly others) am doing when, for example, signing an e-mail: I am using a panel applet for Revelation (password safe) which holds my PGP passphrase. Until (including) Gutsy, when the passphrase was prompted in the password dialog (of Gnome's keyring manager, that was), I copied the passphrase from the panel applet and pasted it into the password dialog, as the passphrase is rather complex and consists of a series of digits and letters I can't remember.
